 B7100 Control Valve - 3 pt Problem

Just had my CV apart yesterday as the hand lever was frozen, (Used tractor - the 3pt has not yet worked). Had to force the spool out of the valve body...metal filings, etc. Found the bore pitted but no serious scratches. Spool only had slight scratches, not hardly enough to feel. Managed to get things polished up and get the spool moving easily again, put all back together, lever moves just fine but I only have "Up," no "Down"! The 3 pt will move and stop correctly but only when moving upwards. Lever will go into "Down" position easily, but no 3 pt movement.

A new CV is expensive. Is this the next step, or look elsewhere? Please reply via email: "bconaway(at)netbeam.net"

Many thanks...Bob C.

I would be very cautious as to how much you do with what you have said. Those metal filings can take out a pump pretty fast if good caution isn't used. I'd recommend that all lines be cleaned well as it seems that it must have been a while since they have been used.

 B7100 Control Valve - 3 pt Problem

Remove the control valve from the tractor and test it on a bench with compressed air. This will help remove any left over debris from the valve. Make sure all the work and power ports are clear of any left over debris and are clear. Drain the case of fluid and replace the filters. As Art said, those filings in your system are deadly to the hyraulic system and the hyro main and slave pump. If the valve ports are all clear, could be a problem with the hitch lowering speed adjustment (assuming the 7100 has one). First make sure it isn't full closed. If the valve was "frozen", good possibily your lowering control is in the same shape. Remove the shaft from the case and assure there isn't a similar build up blocking fluid from escaping the piston. Once you are sure you have cleared and cleaned the unit, put in fresh fluid and filters and try again. The lowering control should move freely.

 B7100 Control Valve - 3 pt Problem

On many systems a filter would catch metal shavings before they entered the pump but it'd still be good to clean things out. I wonder where the metal came from? I'm not sure what 'polishing' means but generally abrasives are avoided spooling valves. Spools are lapped into the bodies to create small clearances.

I don't think these hitches have position control and I don't know if they have a poppet valve for lowering like a PC hitch. In a PC hitch, about the only things between the lift cylinder and the reservoir are the flow control and popper valves--well and some passages that could be obstructed.

If it uses a poppet for lowering it might be stuck as was the lift valve. On a PC hitch another possibility is the linkage and 3ph adjustment. With minor disassembly to my PC hitch, I can see the ends of both the lift spool and poppet valve. I should be able to depress then by hand and I can see if the poppet is depressed when the quadrant lever is in lower position. Your hitch likely is a bit different but I hope this bumphf helps thinking about what might be wrong.
