B6200 - Is it enough power for 6 acres

I bought a house on six acres of rolling hayfields. I'd like to till some gardens, bush-hog the fields (but not bale), haul mulch, haul small trees and shrubs, blow/push snow off the driveway and level out gravel, etc.

A neighbor is selling his Kubota B6200 4x4 15 HP deisel with loader. Is this enough power? (He thought it has 22 HP, but the factory specs online say 15...) I don't want to run the tractor too hard and damage it.

Anyone out there with a B6200 who can advise me?

Thanks!

B6200 - Is it enough power for 6 acres

Hello DJ.

I own a 1990 B6200 and mow three acres with it twice a week. The machine has been flawless and is very effecient at doing chores around the house. I use the rear blade to clean up the berm area of my driveway, and I have no problem pushing snow. I'm in the market for adding the tiller and will know more next spring, but most guys on this board with 6200s have no problems provided the tiller is sized properly. With 6 acres, presumably open space, the rear mount mower is a good choice. I have some obstacles on my property and therefore prefer my 60" mid-mount. I too was skeptical at first about the HP rating of my 6200, but I've since learned that 15 ponies from the 3 cylinder diesel is quite sufficient. Speaking from direct experience, my 6200 runs circles around my neighbors 22hp twin cylinder Briggs Vanguard. I'm not a front end loader expert, but for moving loads within the specs of the unit the tractor will perform just fine. I have agricultural tires with 4wd on my machine and that will prepare me for future tiller use. Turf tires are good for finish mowing, probably not that great for moving dirt or pushing snow. Depending on price, condition and accessories, I say buy the tractor. One thing for sure, the unit is almost fully depreciated and you can always sell it and get most, if not all, of your money back. As I found out, there is a strong market for the older 6200/7200 series machines. Willie H. might also be chipping in with comments about his B5200.

Good luck

Thanks! I test-drove the tractor tonight and I like it a lot. I really appreciate your help. And I appreciate this Web site! Thanks again.

B6200 - Is it enough power for 6 acres

DJ -
John is quite correct when he speaks of the initial uncertainty of 15 horses. Once one has had the opportunity to release them, one soon finds out just how powerful they really are, combined with the gearing, whether be gear shift OR HST.

I have the next engine model down from the 6200, in HP's I have 13.5, B5200. The thing about it is that with 3 cylinders working for you along with the powertrain that is matched to these units, they deliver, and deliver BIG! I have a 60" tiller behind one, a Woods 650 backhoe on another, with FEL's and turfs on each, usually unless I am enduring mud season then I put a set of R4's on my tiller unit, otherwise aggressive turfs offer plenty of traction for tilling or plowing...plenty of power and traction throughout the year.

Don't get confused as you read and / or are told a comparison of older versus newer versions of the B series tractors. They are in concept quite similar, however are worlds apart with design changes...mostly good , some leave you scratching your head abit.

If this 6200 sounds / runs / handles good, and the price is right for your budget, grab it. You will not be dissappointed.

Willie H.

( been a while, but I dusted off the cobwebs )
