Adding skidsteer hydaulics to L4330 HST

Perhaps you guys can help me here - -- I have an L4330 HST I bought last year, after lots of help from all of you. It has been great!

At the time, I bought a post hole digger that was pretty much worthless in my hard rocky soil, which was confirmed by my excavator whom is my neighbor. He offered to let me use his hydraulic skidsteer quick-tach post hole digger anytime I wanted.

So I traded in my rhino PHD for a nice set of pallet forks, and am getting ready to really work on my landscaping. (I needed the pallet forks for all the large moss rock boulders I have). I still have about 5500' of post holes to dig. Smile

I was thinking of trying to install enough hydraulics onto my tractor to run the hydraulic PHD from the skidsteer, and also, run a skidsteer hydraulic chain trencher.

I have the BH90 backhoe, factory installed. It has a set of connections in the back which are I presume a supply and return for the hydraulic system. Can I buy a valve setup to mount somewhere and run some lines up to the front for the bi annual post hole digging weekend, or when I'm doing sprinkler pipe? Is there a convenient place to buy these parts at a fair price online? I tried to do this last year via my dealer, but after he had made a list of over $800 in parts, and was still adding, I bailed... (Starts to approach the price of a beater skidsteer on fleabay!).

Thanks,
John

This is easy! What make and model of skid steer and does it have a double pump?

He uses it on several skid steers, both case and bobcat. The PHD needs 15 gpm to run it, is that the key number we need? Would this be something better run off of a PTO driven pump?

Thanks in advance!
John

John, won't get anything near 15gpm out of the remote on your machine.

Besides, if you set up a stand-alone system, 3pth mount it, and PTO drive it you won't have to worry about the fluids getting all mixed together. Your HST may not be happy after you connect it to anything full of regular fluid out of a SSL.

We have several of these things, basically it's just a reservoir tank, a pump and a valve or two. Either mount it on a small trailer, or carry it on the 3pth, whatever is your preference, although carried is easier to manuever with.

If it's all just for a couple of days a year to dig holes though you might just want to borrow, or rent, a skid steer. The whole system is likely going to get spendy.

Best of luck.

IT has to be a pto pump system and it would have to be custom made other then a provenost system for their loader mounted snowblowers.

Sounds like I'm better off borrowing the skidsteer when I need to do this work.

What about running other "small" hydraulics. I've seen a PTO cement mixer that has a cylinder for lowering/dumping the mixer, single acting (gravity/cement pulls it down).

Anybody used these mixers? I have a lot of areas that are pretty much inaccessable, so I will probably rent a buggy and call the redi-mix truck, but I do a lot of small mixing 2 cf at a time in an electric mixer for after work deck piers, etc.

My New Holland skid steer uses motor oil for the hydraulic fluid. Fisrt the dealer told me I would contaminate the system if I used an a attachment (PHD) that had "regular" hydraulic fluid in it from the last user, but then backed away from the statement when I pressed him further about how much is "contamination level". Then he says, "Aaah, just go ahead and use it."

As far as your electric mixer, you can still use it in the field. What I did is buy a 5500/2500 watt 12vdc-to-120vac power invertor (or convertor???) (about $225 on e-bay). Tucks under the front seat of my pickup (or mount on your tractor). I can run a 6.5 peak-HP shop vac on a 100' extension cord, or 1/2" drill, or a 9" grinder, or a 65 lb. electric Bosch pavement/jackhammer breaker for hours (leaving the engine run to recharge truck batteries). These units are also found on motor homes and camper trailers. Best thing in the field since, well...sliced bread!

And it's handy for camping or even the power goes out.
