I have a John Deere 655 and the loader is stuck in the "down" position. Happened suddenly when clearing some light dirt. Bucket rotates no problem, 3-point works fine, everything else OK. Just no lift to the bucket. Any ideas?

A bad hydraulic connection? Maybe you could swap the lines to the lift and roll cylinders and see if the problem reverses itself. ....

Especially if a relief valve squeal is heard when the lift valve is worked, a likely culprit is a quick-connector as Ken mentioned. It's pretty easy to pull them enough to disconnect them or to not get them fully seated if they been disconnected. If that's the case, at least one of the hoses from the valve is likely pressurized and will be difficult to reconnect without manually depressing the ball in the connector to relieve the pressure. Before removing any hoses it's good to sit the loader on the ground while the tractor is off and work all valves. ....

Same thing happened to my 2210. Upon a very close examination I found one of the quick connect fittings had come unplugged but still appeared to be plugged in. It was out about 1/16" and couldn't be detected until I put my glasses on and looked close. ....

To kwschumm, TomG, Wildman1: Thanks guys! You were right on. One of the quick couplers actually had a broken "stem" on the female side, which damaged the opposite "stem" on the male hydraulic (hose) fitting. Getting replacements now. The advice was great! ....
