I am debating between the JD 4310 and the 4510 tractors. My concern was towing them with my 1/2 ton F150 and a 16' trailer. The dealer said the 4510 with a FEL and shedder may be too much load for the the amount I will travel. He said the 4310 was a better match because of the weight. Either tractor can handle the job I need it for. Any comments or opinions?

I just brought my Century back from the dealer. Weight with loader is about #5200. I have an 18' full deck heavy duty trailer with load equalizer and four wheel electric brakes. I brought it back with our 3/4 ton 4X4 Suburban. We certainly knew it was there. Based on that recent experience, if I had a 1/2 ton and only a 16' trailer I think I would heavily lean toards the 4310. Especially if as you state you will be constantly towing it.

I had a F150 with the small Triton 8 and the trailer towing package. I towed my 750 JD with loader and cutter 600 miles or more (3500 lb. I also towed a car on the a trailer 1500 miles from New England to KY. I did not feel it was over worked or had any problems.
I am not sure you will have the space on a 16 ft with the larger tractor though. I could just get mine on.
As with most Fords you need to change auto transmission oil like clock work, especially if you are over working it. ....

First and foremost, check your F150 tow rating and the rating on your hitch. If it is not rated to tow at least 7000 pounds just stop there.

The list weight of a 4510 is 3450#.

I am guessing that the FEL will add around 1000#

A 16 foot trailer with ramps weighs around 1800#

So far we are at 6300# and we have not added three point implement which I assume is a heavy brush cutter.

The smaller Deere is only 500# less weight so no matter what you do here you have maxed out a 7000# GVW trailer and probably your vehicle as well.

If you are just trying to get all this stuff home you could use you truck to make two or more trips. If you are planning on transporting the whole tamale around on a regular basis you will, no doubt about it, need a heavier truck and at least a 12,000# GVW trailer.

FYI, My little BX22 takes up 14.5 feet of my 16 foot trailer. You may need to run a tape measure over what you intend to buy. Like Peters said, it is probably longer than the trailer. ....
