4200 Will Crank but won t start

Wow, JD should have corrected this one! We'll I've read the posts, went up to JD and bought 2 thermistor's (1 for a spare) came home and at best, got the fuse panel to bend out about 3/4's of the way, no room at all to do any soldering behind there. Then, even with a flashlight and magnifying glass, couldn't find the little thermistor behind the panel or attached to any black or white wire. It just isn't there. This is a 2001 4200. there is a small white factory wire which comes out and loops back around going back into the rear of the panel. I'm going to pull the selinoid and attempt to clean that out, but I couldn't even get to the white wire to ground that like someone had suggested. Has anyone posted or is there any photos out there of the stock thermistor in place from the factory? I've pulled the panel out twice now, and just can't see it. Any help would be much appreciated!

Maybe this is obvious but are you sure it's a thermistor problem? What else was checked?

I'll take some pictures of mine, it's presently apart and I purchased the thermistor today. The only problem being is I found a mouse nest behind the fuse panel and a red wire disconnected. I haven't figured where to connect it yet. It has a number not shown on the wiring diagram. I had to work at freeing the wire harnesses to to move the fuse box. Very tight.

Thanks for the follow up posts, Hope the mice didn't chew through any of the wires!
OK!!!!!!!!!!!Here's the fix!!! I solved my problem:
PROBLEM:
1)Plenty of fuel
2)Engine freely cranks over and fast as usual
3)Couldn't find the bloody chicklet transmistor after buying two of them (one for a spare) so they are in my parts cabinet now.

But still no start.

SOLUTION:
1)Take the right engine cover off.

2)Unbolt the rear bracket/cover plate from the engine.
(Two top bolts and one larger lower bolt)After unbolting, twist a little to pull away and up so that you can get to the selonoid.

3)With a small 1/4" socket set, remove the two bolts holding the selonoid to the rear of the injector pump. Remove the selonoid from the injector, unplug from wiring harnass.

4)If you see oil running out of the selonoid, your half way there. Take it in the shop, get a can of Brakeleen or Brake cleaner. (It cleans and evaporites fast) Turn the selonoid cannister up, plunger downward and work in in and out spraying Brakeleen up in where the plunger goes in the canister. Do this several times until the plunger feels free of oil.

5) Now, re-install, make sure you put the o-ring back in between the selonoid and the injector pump upon installing.

6)Put the side cover bracket back on, start your tractor!
IN especially cold weather, the oil "hardens" or gets "stiffer" creating a blockage so that the plunger can not move all the way as it should. It should be a obvious clank, not a lite click sound when you turn the ignition on. After this manuver, you will hear a louder clank when you activate the switch at the panel. Good LUCK!, mine started right up after doing this maintenance. Reggie

Let me post an "amen!" to this solution. My 4200 has been a bit fiddly in the last year, especially during cold weather. 25 minutes with the spanners and a few blasts of brake cleaner and it's problem solved.

Thanks for the tip
