On my JD 855 I can't adjust the sway chain enough to avoid the 3 pt attachments from swinging in to the tires when I'm turning and driving at an angle. My tires are 53" apart (outside measurement). Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do? Thanks!!!BJB

You might reverse the wheels to get a wider stance and more clearance between thw wheels. ....

If it's like my NH TC18, you just keep tightening up the sway controls until
it doesn't sway at all or not very much. I had to get the hang of this too when I first got my tractor, the 3 pt. mower would move on turns and I got marks on my tires - no damage though. I did look at a used JD that had gouges ou of its tires from rubbing though.

Good Luck, JimBinMI ....

I had a 1988-755 old style sway chains, and now have a 1996-855 with what I call a newer style sway chains on it. Both tractors were adjustable, the older tractor I had to use wrenches to adjust and the 96 model is adjusted by one hand, but it has two sets of holes in the lower arms for the sway chains, there about one inch apart but it does make a difference on what wideth you want, If yours is anything like mine, they are adjustable. Different years will have a little different styles for adjustments. If you have the what I call the old style, I think its possible to put on the newer style sway chains so you can adjust it quick and easy. I hope I didn't confuse you to bad. ....

Thanks for the suggestion. Mine 855 is a 1988 so it would have the "old" style. I'll have to look in to the "new" style to see if this would help. Also, my 855 doesn't have two sets of holes in the bars to adjust. Maybe I should just drill a new hole. How far from the tractor end of the lift bar are the holes on your new tractor. If you could give me this it would be a big help!!! Thanks Again!!!!
