Turned key on, pressed gas pedal and Gator backed out of shop.
Put Gator in drive and Gator would not start.
Engine turns over but will not start.
Checked spark plug and it has spark.
Checked gas and that is ok.
Tried starter fluid straight into carb and not even a pop.
Charged battery just to make sure that was ok.
Not sure what to try next.

Seems the only thing you have not checked is air supply. If this is first time of the year you may have mice nest or such in air supply. But I think you more likely have fuel supply issue unless you were cranking the engine while spray the fluid. ....

This has really got me guessing. If you have spark and fuel something should happen. Checked air filter and all is well. Removed air cleaner hose connection from carb and that didn't help. Sprayed starter fluid directly into carb while cranking but nothing. Not even a pop. I have been told by several that the electrical system in the Gator can be a real pain when it when it wants to. Called two local John Deere shops and was told they are not qualified to work on a Gator. But for 65 dollars an hour they'll see what they can do. Hate to pay that much just to have them practice. ....

When you say it has spark, does it have spark between the elecctrodes on the plug? A bad plug will spark from the plug to the motor. Next step is check compression, you could have an intake valve stuck open. ....

Tried new spark plug. I have spark between electrode on both old and new spark plug. My compression tester is old but I did get about 60 or 70 on the gauge. With new plug installed, new battery installed, new can of starter fluid I again removed the air cleaner hose and sprayed starter fluid directly into carb. Nothing happened. Not even a pop. I am stumped on this one. ....

60 or 70 is real low. I think you need a new compression check. ....

Agree with you. Books say 57 and up is ok. Even with as low as it is wouldn't think it would at least try to start. I get nothing. Doesn't even try a little bit. The motor went from running in reverse to nothing when going to drive. I found what I think is the ground going to the mag., disconnected it and that did nothing. Thought maybe something in the Gator electrical might be a problem but I guess not. ....

I'm thinking you don't have any compression. Either the intake valve is open or closed. They can stick open, but the push rod or something has to be off for it to remain closed. The only other thing is a sheared or partially sheared flywheel key. Which would make you get spark at the wrong time. ....

Going to check and see if a flywheel key might have sheared off. Can this be done with engine in the frame? ....

Pretty much had to pull the engine to get to the flywheel. I was sure hopeing that the key was sheared in the flywheel but it was good as new. I guess all that's left is valves and piston. ....

Try putting a little oil in the ports Put spark plugs back in and see if it starts If it does it may not have enough Compression to Fire If it starts when its cold you would have a little more compression. ....

Well you just made my day. I just bought a brand new coil but haven't tried it yet. Not looking good for me. Pulled the head off and all looked good. Valves looked good.I did a wet test with some contact cleaner and they didn't leak. Will put it all back together with new coil and let you know what happens. ....

New coil and new throttle cable solved the problem. It now runs.
Will not run slow as it bucks. Feels like it is turning on and off. As you press the throttle down thing seem to smooth out and it runs fine.
When you stop it will backfire. (Something new)
Coil didn't have an adjustment but might be the new throttle cable.
Runs pretty bad when trying to go slow. ....
