How do you bleed the hydraulic lift system on a 1957 601 Ford? I got in a ditch, ground gave way under rear tires and I slid down in a ditch. After I got the tractor out the 3 pt lift arms would not work.

I pray no one got hurt. We had a 61 601 and not aware of any way to bleed the system other than raising and lowering the lift. Is it possible the pump was damaged due to hot being able to pick up and oil? ....

That is good. Boy need old memory here but think there is speed control on the side of the transmission that may have gotten moved with slide. Also try to see if the draft or position lever was moved out of position. Sure you have checked the fluid level but I would try draining a little to see if the fluid looks fine and not contaminated. I think there is a screen filter there for the pickup but not sure. There were two things I did not like on the 601, the brakes were tough to keep working and not having an overrun clutch both caused me concerns around such as ditches especially when using bushhog. ....
