plow subsoiler middle buster cultivator what do I need for what jo

OK I have my NH TC29D on order, now am looking for three point hitch attachments. I am looking for lower cost, so for now I will wait for the rotortiller that I think would be best for my big garden and insted buy used stuff. I am found someone with three used at 3 point hitch accesssories from central tractor like used single bottom plow $100cultivator king cutter CV-1-C for $75 (new $150) , NH sub soiler $75, and Inot sure do I need all three of these orwhat I need or when to use each one. Soil is hard clay with just a little topsoil. I understand that the basic idea of plowing first then finer work, but of the tools listed above are some duplicates or do they have different applications? Any help would be appreciated. Or if you want to reccomendwhich ones to buy or not buy.ThanksDavid Keithwingdavd@aol.com

the plow turns the soil over
the cultivator breaks up the soil that you turned over with the plow
a sub soiler is used to break up tree roots etc. after a orchard or grapery
or woodlot has been removed
if I were you I'd be looking for a Disc also

How big of a garden plot? What is your budget? I've got a tiller, 1-row cultivator, middle-buster (and some other stuff) and I find the tiller superior to anything else for preparing a seed-bed. I've tried preparing it with the 1-row cultivator. I've got similar soil to what you've described--mostly clay with a thin layer of topsoil. The cultivator basically turns over big chunks of clay and doesn't really work all that well. The middle buster is good to open up the hardpan but doesn't really do all that much beyond that to get a seed bed prepared. I don't think my TC-29 could really pull a set of discs big enough to make a difference in my soil. Based on the price of a two-bottom plow and a set of discs, I decided (a year ago when I got the tractor) to buy a relatively inexpensive King Kutter 60" gear tiller. Best $1,000 I've spent (besides the tractor). Good luck!

yes I agree with the last post and now am facing reality
what I will do is wait till next year, and buy a rototiller for
my 3 point hitch instead of beating the clay with tines

David, I have and recommend the following: subsoiler, one bottom plow, and rototiller. This combo will handle just about any garden task.

I would be very careful with that soil you are talking about....if you plow you will bring up the clay and bury you top soil....I would work the property with a disk of course it is cost prhibitive but to plant that land a no=till drill would be the answer. But you sure don't want to bring that clay up to the surface,
