My 7265 is hard to start. I bought new battery, charged it up. When I turn key, glo plug comes on then 3 sec it goes off. I then I crank engine over. It seems to crank pretty fast (until I drain battery) with white smoke coming out exhaust. If I give it a wiff of starting fluid it starts right up instantly. Or if it has been running it restarts no problem. How/what should I try before I turn this tractor into a either baby? Thanks all in advance for you assisitance.

What throttle setting are you using when starting?

I suspect you need to add some throttle 1/3, 1/2 maybe more as tractor starts back throttle off some. ....

I'd think that for the temps that we have now you have a problem with injectors or the pump. ....

Not to disagree with either of my friends, but to me it sounds more like either a glow plug or two has burned out or the relay is going.

If it starts right up with a wiff of either, it's getting fuel, it's just not getting the preheat it needs.

Best of luck. ....

Murf, you could be right! Rereading it if the glow plugs were working he very well might have blown the intake off the tractor with the either if they were working! My thoughts though is they did not start that bad for the temps he had in PA at this point and it should have started on it's own without any assist at all. ....

FYI: Since I just bought the 7265 I went to the dealer. He did everything. replaced Battery, glow plugs, etc. Turns out the STARTER was the problem. Not cranking fast enough. Seller had Starter rebuilt(Guess new one was $1200) Once the rebuilt starter installed have not had a problem starting on the coldest of days. PS Glow plugs light still only comes on for 3-4 seconds. But that is normal. Thanks for all your inputs.

I was able to resolve this issue. Turns out that after I replaced the Glow plugs and relay, battery etc. It was the Starter. The starter was not spinning fast enough. Since then it starts up on first crank very quickly. Thanks for all your input. ....
