I wonder if there is something that would be "out there" from overseas being marketed here to small farms or hobby farms. Maybe even gray market stuff.<br>

BTW -- I remember these units after seeing the pictures in the link; my dad was a Zone Sales Manager for Allis-Chalmers Farm Division in central Illinois for a few years in the early-to-mid 60's. I would sometimes accompany him during his dealer visits. That was before he signed-up with Kiekhaefer, to later become Mercury Marine, as a Zone Sales Manager in '68.<br>

Even though the analogy has been discussed here previously, this forum is like sitting around a pot-bellied stove (wrong time of year here in the northern hemisphere) or at the local diner or the corner store listening to what others are saying. I appreciate the collective wisdom this forum has provided me. I can only hope that I can provide to others in a similar manner.

EW -- you nailed it. Thanks for the lead. Checked things out while the kids were playing in the back before it got dark. Took a look at the wire to the fuel cut-off -- all looked fine. Popped the seat up to have a look at the seat switch -- all looked fine there too. Seat back down and then fired it up. Was able to manually replicate the problem with the seat switch. The temporary fix was adjusting the switch slightly so that it engages a bit more. I'll be ordering a new switch to provide a better long-term resolution, and a safer one.

Frank, is that generally a "rule of thumb" about the forty acre minimum where one can be reasonably assured of reduced hassle on codes, permits, and inspections? At least I'll know what question(s) to ask for the next place. I am in the job search mode at the time; if we can swing it, and depending on where the four winds blow us to, I'd sure like to be "out" some from any type of "big smoke" area. JJ

I did my own dirt work for an area slighlty bigger than the area that you describe using a Case DX24E (the red version of the TZ24DA) and a 48 inch box blade. Before starting though, I had the rear hyrdraulic remote kit installed. Having control of the box blade's cutting blade pitch means all the difference as to what you are doing; cutting, or letting it skim across with the captured dirt spilling out. In the really compacted stuff, I might have made a pass or two with the scarifier teeth down. Most of the work was with the teeth up.<br>

It took me 4-5 weeks on a very part time basis during some evenings and on the weekends. But, it got done. The kids have had a great almost level area to play thier ball sports on without the balls taking off downhill to the neighbors.<br>

Plus, the box blade is one of the best counterweights that I can think of to quickly install when using the FEL.<br>

Advice -Use my tractor or have bulldozer do it

A bit of moisture also helps. At least it has for me with the soil that I have. With no vegetation growing, the dirt gets about rock hard on the surface. With a bit of moisture, the tines really start to work. It is supposed to rain a bit this weekend; I've been waiting all week to get out there with mine.

The chain harrow that I have is a Fuerst H6, 6'W x 8'L (thier link is below).

$I had a quite similar problem, even going through the tractor with a tape measure measuring all sorts of things trying to get a handle on what the problem was. When I brought up the problem when taking the unit in for the 50 hour service, I mentioned it to the dealer. The dealer told me when picking it up that the FEL's attachment brackets were "off" relative to the ground. The solution that they did was to drill out the frame mounting holes where the FEL's brackets attach, or they drilled-out one of the brackets; can't remember which one they drilled. Anyway, that has since solved the problem. The bucket is nice and level now just a fraction of an inch above a concrete floor; it was sitting high on the left side (I think) about an inch with the right side touching.$ TZ25DA loader croocked

The blizzard here along the Front Range has been nice to look at from here in the house yesterday. The snow and the wind are supposed to taper off early this afternoon (Thursday). The local stations are reporting that we got around 24" for the area. Looking out, I can see some drifting around the house amongst the patches of almost bare ground. The winds here yesterday and last night were reported to be around 30 mph gusting to 40 taking the snow into a white out condition.

I went into work yesterday morning sort of knowing that I would not stay the entire day. Operations were suspended at noon, so I was on my way home. A normal 25-30 minute drive took well over an hour, mostly watching out for the idiots driving thier jacked-up trucks and SUVs; I wish they would return from where ever they come from. I saw all sorts of vehicles in the ditches along the trek home, and it got worse throughout the day and into the night. I-70 has been closed from Denver to the Kansas border since early yesterday with I-25 being closed north and south of Denver later in the day; both remain closed except for in the Denver area. By the way, today (Thursday) was supposed to be my last day at work due to starting the Christmas break tomorrow (Friday) for a week and a half off -- and it still is "Christmas" to me and not the generic namby-pamby "Holiday" time that has come into our language lately. I guess that I got an extra day and a half off to enjoy my family and have time to get some things done around the house.

Anticipating the arrival of all of the snow, I got the little Case ready for action Tuesday after getting home from work. I am looking forward to getting out later to clear the drifts that swirled around the garage and on the driveway.

This thread has my curiousity up some. What is the "rule of thumb" or other metric dictating what tractor will pull a 1-bottom, 2-bottom, or n-bottom plow? There must be some type of horsepower-to-plow correlation. I can remember my father plowing and discing with a Farmall M (I think that is what I remember), but can not remember how large either was. That was in NE Illinois when I was but a "wee lad."

There's a questions related to this thread that I have had in my mind for some time now.

The background is that I will most likely be "moving on" relocating somewhere; just don't know when or where yet. I too will probably be buying a trailer prior to hitting the road much like Iowafun is doing. Will most likely get a 18' instead of a 16' so to use for other things later on (like hauling a car if needed).

If I am pulling a privately-owned trailer with my little Case on it along with all of the implements (FEL and MMM attached, tiller, box scraper, 3 pt sprayer, and rolled-up chain harrow), do I have to stop at those weigh stations along the way? Is there anything alse that I would have to do along the trek from a legal, or "have to do" view? How would be the best way to secure the trailer, and all of the goodies on it, when overnighting like at a Residence Inn or a place like that? It would be chained/secured, but put locks on too? I supposed make sure that it is parked in a well-lighted location with lots of traffic going by, or is that a built-in problem (with all of the traffic going by)?

Gee, I learned something again today in this great forum. I too have a "pump-up" for a small basement bathroom like ncrunch, and probably many others. That small basement bathroom is "roughed in" right now with the plan to build it later. It's good to know now not to put in caustic fluids.....I guess learning from ncrunch's previous problem.

As far I am concerned, my first and last PC, is a Dell bought about 4 months ago. It was bought mainly for the kids doing homework and especially the oldest boy doing an online Japanese course through the Univ. of Alabama (we are in northern CO). I have also used it a bit. A side use was working with the boys on some entry-level programming and use with some PICs. Everything else now and in the past has been Macs. About a month after getting the new Dell, it crashed. I could not get the thing back up (having worked on them some at work, but mostly SUNs and VAXs). I called Dell support; thier only remedy was to rebuild the system. So, my son lost all of his first weeks' course work due to have to rebuilding the blasted thing. I'll stay with the Macs for any new ones. But, I have not been a big fan of the Redmond, WA source of OS and other software anyway even though I have multiple (legal) copies of Office in Mac (2) and now in PC (1) along with other application (Visio, Project).

Has anyone purchased a Dell computer lately

~80 hours. Most of that was dirt work with the box blade, FEL, and chain harrow; only about 10-12 of those hours has been for mowing with the MMM.

Much earlier in my working life, in my late teens and then while in college after serving from being drafted, I was a marine mechanic. I was certified on MerCruiser (Mercury Stern Drives) while my brother was certified on the outboards. My father was a Zone Sales Manager for Mercury.

The first thing that went through my mind on this was the volt gauge having been wired wrong from the start; it sounds as if the gauge is wired in at the dash and not being wired to read the voltage at or near the battery. It seems to be sensing the voltage drop when things are being used (e.g.: the high current stereo). It also points to there not being a heavy enough gauge of wire going from the battery up to the console area -- it is doing exactly what it is supposed to be doing by sensing the voltage, and in this case the voltage dropping. If the supply wire was a sufficient enough gauge wire from the battery up to the console, there should not be any appreciable voltage drop -- maybe a few tenths of a volt, but not much more. But, if there is 18 gauge wire going up there for such a long run, that could be a problem with a sizable current draw such as the stereo. That's my read on the situation at least.

Your post (31MAY06) goes into "no scrub" car wash stuff looking like coloured shaving cream used in those "no touch" car washes.

I have been looking around here in northern Colorado for the stuff; can't find it either. I've looked at some auto parts stores (including Napa), WW, Target, and the local The Mercantile (similar to TSC) with no joy. Is there a brand or something to look for or a place that is known to carry it?

The only disadvantage that I know of is that I really have to spray in calmer conditions. The advantage is that there is no boom to mess with. That may be an advantage for some in some cases though. When first considering the sprayer last year, I did not know about "boomless;" but I like it now.
