Fortunately, I have a garage for my tractor. Unfortunately, I do not have a garage for my Woods Rotary Cutter.<br>
<br>
How many of you recommend tarping it? I haven't in the past because I've heard that tarps may actually hold in moisture. But, since rust is starting to take hold, I'm considering changing my plans for this winter. What other precautions do you recommend?

I believe I am going to attempt this oil seal replacement myself (if I can get the crossbar and stumpjumper off). I will likely replace the oil seal and the bearings (just to be sure).

How can I tell if the blades and stump jumper are in proper balance? I do know (that during operation) the deck shakes very slightly but not much. I considered that normal. I assume that buying new blades would ensure proper balance, unless the stump jumper has some deformity to it.

How often should you sharpen rotary cutter blades? As I understand it, they should normally be dull, so, how do you determine when they are ready to be sharpened?<br>

The second question is...how to sharpen them? Someone told me that grinding isn't the best method for sharpening. He recommended taking them to a blacksmith to be pounded back into shape. Thoughts?

I'm just curious. I've met more than one person who has taken the chain off and let their plastic PTO driveline shields rotate. The argument for disconnecting the chain goes something like this...."the bearings in the shield wear out easily and they're expensive to replace".<br>

I, personally, continue to secure the chain to the tractor (which prevents the shield from rotating). But, I'm curious if others have heard this argument and whether it holds any truth.

This may be a dumb question, but I had no idea there were so many different kinds of grease. <br>

What is a good high temperature, lithium, moly to use on both tractor, loader, and implements? I suspect one of the Shell products would be a good way to go, but which one?

I have a woods rotary cutter that came standard with a steel shield/guard bolted to the back. The optional chain shielding kit (I think) is around $200.<br>

What are the advantages to having chain shielding on a rotary cutter as opposed to the standard steel guard?<br>
Would you recommend getting the chain shielding?

I have a relatively new TC30. I've never owned a diesel before.<br>

Especially in the cold weather (30F and colder), what throttle position/RPM should I let it warm up in? Lately, I've been warming up at 1000RPM for about 10 minutes.<br>

I have a plumbing vent stack that has a plastic/rubber ready-made<br>
flashing/boot that is in good condition. It seems to be installed correctly (the flashing is above the shingles on the downward slope and below the shingles on the upward slope).<br>

However, I get a leak only when snow melts. Rain is no problem.<br>
<br>
I suspect snow/ice is damming at the vent and accumulating upward and below the shingles. The shingles above the stack do not completely cover the flashing above the vent. They stop about 2 inches above the stack.<br>

HOw should I fix this problem? Should I use adhesive to seal the shingles to the flashing? Should I reshingle above the stack so that the shingles completely cover the flashing above the stack? This is difficult to describe. I'll try to post a picture.

I have a moderately wooded lot with mature trees. I'd like to plant grass in the open areas.<br>

I plan to use my loader (with toothbar) to dig out saplings and then work the soil with a 60" tiller. I'm sure I will encounter a fair amount of roots (alive and dead). I have 2 questions:<br>
<br>
1. Would a box scraper with scarifiers do a better job than the tiller at working the soil in the woods?<br>
2. What is the best technique? I'm sure I don't want to work the soil very deep as I do not want to disturb the live tree roots. Any advice?

Has anyone used pallet forks for picking up brush and logs? It seems like it might work. Some brush will obviously fall through (which can be picked up by the bucket later).<br>

Obviously, a grapple rake or 4in1 bucket would be the ultimate tool but I was thinking that a pallet fork would be a good cost effective alternative. Thoughts?

I have a 5 acre wooded property. Considering the following purposes, would you purchase a tractor or a skid steer?<br>

1. Moving brush and piles of logs to a burn area. A grapple bucket would be useful.<br>
2. Moving wood chip piles.<br>
3. Snow plowing of driveway.<br>
4. Bush hogging.<br>
5. Garden tilling<br>

I've been thinking about a tractor for a long time....but, lately, I've been watching landscaping companies do their work and I've realized just how useful skid steers are (especially for clearing brush).<br>

I was considering 2 tractors (New Holland 33D and JD 4310). Both have a rated PTO HP of around 27HP. I need to power a medium duty 5 foot rotary cutter (probably a Rhino TW60) capable of handling 2 inch brush. Most rotary cutters I've seen that are that size recommend 28-30HP. Budget is a concern. In your experience, are these two tractors capable of running a medium duty 5 foot bushhog?
