I changed my Jinma 304 to a Delco 12Si alternator because I needed the extra ampacity to run additional work lights and an inverter. If you don't need the additional capacity, I'd just replace with the OEM alternator. If you want additional capacity, then go with the 12Si Delco. It's an easy conversion if you're handy with tools and can make your own mounting bracket if needed.

What Greg says is the most likely cause of your leak and you definitely want to address the issue sooner, rather than later. Waiting to fix runs the risk of the tractor being damaged by the loose joint between the flywheel housing and the engine.

You'll want to examine and possibly replace your throwout bearing, pilot bushing and all the roll pins holding the clutch linkage while you're in there. Use doubled roll pins nested inside each other or the better spring-wound pins to insure against future failure. As long as you have to split the tractor you might as well take this opportunity to make everything in there as sound as possible.

There's a reason that tractors equipped with a ROPS are also equipped with a seat belt. That seat belt is what keeps your fragile body in a position where the ROPS protects you. Fail to wear the seat belt and you get tossed out (as you discovered) and the ROPS itself can crush you to death if some other part of the tractor doesn't. Simple concept - no ROPS, no belt. With ROPS, wear belt.

My guess is that a sand point well isn't going to supply enough water for that much irrigation, but only a local well person can really answer that question. It will all depend on how much water is available and at what depth as to what type of well you're going to need. <br>

If driving your own sand point, you going to be severely limited on how deep you can go and how big a point you can drive. Unless you have a pile driver/derrick at your disposal, you won't be able to drive anything bigger than a 2" point to a depth of maybe 25-30 feet if your soil is sandy loam or sand. If there's rocks, you'll be stopped dead.<br>

Your neighbors may have some experience with this that they can pass on, or contact a local well driller. Your county geologist should be able to tell you what type of soil you have to deal with. The county extension agent can tell you how much water your crops are going to need based on your local conditions.<br>
<br>
If we assume you have soil that will allow you to drive a 2" sand point to 30' deep, the next issue is recover rate. How fast will that hole fill with water to a depth of 10' below the surface? That would mean that you have 20 feet of 2" pipe full of water, which is a bit over 3 gallons of water. Your well would need to be able to fill that pipe in one minute in order for you to yield 180 gallons per hour delivery rate. That isn't a lot of water by any means. So you can see that recovery rate is the big factor in what sort of well you'll need.<br>

To irrigate two acres of row crops and two acres of trees/shrubs I'd think you would really want a 4" well as a minimum and probably a 6". The depth will be a factor of soil type and recovery rate, of course. Most of Minnesota is pretty wet so I doubt you'll have much problem getting water, it's just a matter of getting enough when you need it. <br>

Drip watering saves a lot of water, but the water has to be very clean in order for drip irrigation to work. You may need to have a filter system on the well in order to use drip watering. You also need a minimum pressure of about 30 psig, so you will need an expansion tank. The size tank you'll need will be governed by how much water you need to use and what your well can deliver, but I'd say a 60 gallon bladder-type tank would probably be adequate.

Hoo, boy! Someone saw you coming, I'd say. There's no way that tractor weighs 8300 pounds! Try more like half that. If you could get it for 700 bucks and get a new block for say 400, you might barely be okay on the deal. But you'd still have several hundred more to spend in rings, seals, gaskets, etc. I'd definitely pass on that one!

Definitely go to the 4# test line. I might even go so far as to tie on a tippet of 2# test about 24-30" long and then the hook. Use the smallest hook that will reasonably retain the bait, and be sure it is sharp.

You won't want more than one or possibly two slit shot for weight about 16-20" above the hook. The more weight you use, the faster the bait goes down, but also the more difficult it is becomes for you to feel a bite. Trout don't hit hard like a mad bass, they just pickup the bait and begin to move away with it, so when you sense movement, set the hook with a sharp flick of the rod tip and a simultaneous pull in of the line with your free hand.

Don't let the bait just lie there - twitch it a bit every few seconds or pull it slowly toward you. Trout are attracted to movement. Trout also like to eat other smaller trout. Small minnows make good bait.

Best times to fish are usually early morning, first two hours after sunrise and last two hours before sunset.

Have fun! Explore the streamside and stream bottom to see what insects are active - fish eat those and will show a preference for whatever insect happens to be hatching. Besides, it is good education for the boy.

There are four manuals available- Tractor Owner's Manual, Parts Manual, Engine Owner's Manual and Engine Parts Manual - you really need all four to be able to successfully work on these tractors. I don't know what they cost, but whatever it is, it's money well spent.<br>

As to the overheating, one of the most common causes of overheating on these Chinese tractors is a dirty radiator = both inside and outside. Start by thoroughly cleaning the radiator's outsides - blow the chaff out of the fins with a leaf blower or some such, or compressed air, but be careful not to damage the fragile fins. If you can't see light through the radiator it isn't clean enough. In that case you'll need to wash it, again being careful not to damage the fins. If need be, you may have to remove the radiator from the tractor to get it really clean. <br>
<br>
There should be a chaff screen in front of the radiator itself, to catch grass and debris. When I'm mowing high weeds, I often need to stop every hour or so and clear the chaff screen or the tractor will overheat. If your tractor doesn't have one, I'd suggest, after you get the problem resolved, that you add one. A simple piece of 1/4" mesh hardware cloth will work fine and it can be retained in place with a neodymium magnet at each corner. Makes it easy to pull it and clear it.<br>
<br>
The inside of the radiator and cooling system should be flushed with a good quality flushing mix and refilled with Final Charge or equivalent diesel coolant with Supplemental Cooling Additives (SCAs). DO NOT use automotive coolant! That will cause cavitation and destroy the wet liner seals on the cylinders. <br>
<br>
If, after you have thoroughly cleaned the system inside and out, and checked for simple things like a loose fan belt, it is still overheating, then you'll need to do a leak-down test to see if you perhaps have a bad head gasket. You say there is no evidence of water in the oil, but is acts like it is being pressurized - what makes you think that? Is the coolant being blown out of the radiator? Almost any leakage at all from a cylinder will blow all the coolant out in very short order. If you're not losing coolant, then I'd doubt a cylinder leak. You could have a failing water pump and that would cause overheating - but start with the simple, inexpensive fixes first.<br>
<br>
These tractors tend to lose a bit of coolant due to expansion from heating, so I'd recommend adding a coolant recovery system. Just a bottle to catch the escaping coolant and allow it to be sucked back into the radiator when it cools down. Even a one liter pop bottle will do the trick. Just be sure to mount it where it doesn't interfere with airflow through the radiator. On that same subject, where is your battery located? On some of the older Chinese tractors, the battery was mounted unfortunately high in front of the radiator, significantly blocking air flow. Changing to a new-style battery tray will lower the battery significantly and improve air flow.<br>

That is a very smart approach to the problem, I think. Use the rebuilt pump to flush with, then install a new pump to be sure you have full flow and pressure. That way you'll have the rebuilt pump available as an emergency spare if needed.

A new one with a loader would be around $15,000, a backhoe would add 3-4K, 1K for a rototiller, 1.5K for the chipper. Personally, if it is all in good condition apart from needing a bit of minor welding on the backhoe bucket, I might go as much as $11,000 for the lot. I think $13.5K is too high. Now, that's based on what I see advertised on the 'net and the market in your particular area may be different.

A very big factor in the durability of Chinese tractors is how they are set up by the dealer before sale - done right, these are good tractors. Not done, or done wrong, you'll have a machine that will have constant problems and a short life. You should find out about where the tractor came from originally and how it was set up prior to delivery. Was the clutch adjusted? All fluids changed to new American fluid? That sort of thing make a huge difference.

The cracks in the backhoe might be nothing to worry about or they might indicate either flaws in manufacture or abuse by the user. Abused equipment should be avoided unless it is so cheap you can afford to rebuild it.

It's not unheard of for a cylinder sleeve to pop up like that - may just mean a bad O-ring on a wet-sleeved engine. I'd suggest you call Tommy at Affordable Tractor Sales in Texas. He's a great source, and would likely be your best bet for assistance with information and/or parts, up to an entire engine if need be. Good point, Greg. I meant to type 80W90, not a designation for synthetic. No real point in using synthetic in a system where things are moving that slowly and the fluid should be changed in 5600 hours anyway.
