Just changed my transmission oil for my JD 4115 hydro. 229 hours. Used 14.6 liters (3.9 gal) of hy gd lo vis for a cost of $71.00 for 5 gal bucket. Prefer to use recommended fluids and not substitutes.

I would like to dethatch my field. I was told to take a chain link fence about 6' wide and drag it behind the tractor attached to the 3 pt hitch. Has anyone ever used this method before to dethatch your hay field? Can this be purchased or must it be constructed? Any ideas would be helpful!

Well finally have 50 hours and loved every minute of it. Need my initial maint. Does anyone recommend performing this maint. myself or having the dealer perform it. Dealer is asking $400 - $475 including travel time. Worked on some cars but never a tractor - anyone have any recommendations.. Thanks in advance!!

Thanks to all....just could not remember the 3,4,5 method. I am constructing a home bar in the basement and wanted to start with the interior wall layout. Now I just need to find some plans for the home bar design. Checked the internet but most all the plans offered cost $$$$. Will try some book stores or the library, Thanks again I will be sure to use all the methods descibed for my interior wall layouts.

I use the spray graphite lubricant as Drankin and Deere recommend. There is limited waste and the graphite remains on like primer paint. Very efficient.

Thanks David & Harvey,
I will try to tighten them first, I have only a torque wrench and the torque required is over 400#'s and I am supposed to use a torque multiplier ( I don't have) so I will shoot for 100#'s on the wrench without the multiplier. Also found this morning after talking with the boy that he might of hit some ledge on the back hills, will check that out also.

Thanks for the insight. The fella who recommended this has years of experience but with very large farm tractors. He may not be familiar with the newer model CUT's but his advice was sincere and honest and we will talk more about this subject.. For now I will not reduce the pressure since I think you are all right on the money. Thanks for everything.

I will now gladly leave your Kubota board, I simply find the Kubota board addresses many common mechanical problems with your tractors that "I MAY SEE" down the line see with my Deere tractor. Happy hunting I'm sure your will attract more prey with your rattle and bite tactics.

Well just a couple tines on some large boulders I pooped up while raking some clay soil in preparation for loaming. And man did I have a great time doing it. Haven't had much time to play with the new tractor and attachments, still getting used to them, obviously. Try not to break anymore but I have a feeling I will need to buy some replacements and spares. By the way how much do tines cost for a Frontier LR1072? Anyone know? And am I being to rough on my attachemnts?

I use STA_BIL to all my gas equipment, I didn't realize that it can be used with diesel fuel also. If so can I use it along with PS?

I'm mostly concerned with cutting accross a slope or uneven terrain where two slopes intersect. Also when pulling the rottary cutter up a slope. Traction and stability is what I hope to gain. Not concerned so much about damage to the field. Thanks for your input, it is much appreciated.

Hardwood, From what the JD dealer told me, was for that very reason, "noise" they were recommending the Firebird brand because it was constructed with plywood panels integrated in with the fiberglass canopy, the canopy has a hump where it fits over the ROPS and looks very similar to the one in your pic's with the exception that there is a rise or hump to the rear of the canopy where it fits over the ROPS. It has two mounting extensions which connects to the side of the ROPS as does the other canopies and the canopy then is bolted from the top through the mounting extensions. Work lights can be installed and they recommend using stock Deere work lights mounted below the front of the canopy to allow for vertical adjusting of the lighting when needed. The wiring attaches to the tractor harness and then the lights are controlled via the console light switch without having to use an additional light switch, Just seen a pic of the canopy on the manufactures brouchure, haven't seen one on a tractor yet.

Well I went with the Frontier 72" rake with guage wheels for $795.... Hope this was a good selection...Documentation indicates this rake is actually manufactured by Woods... Interesting!!

Congrats on the new JD 4115.. Would you recommend the blade over the rake for grading top soil, also do you have any hydrolics for the 54" blade and would you recommend the front blade for plowing snow of 1 foot and above over a 260' driveway.

thats a lot of work done in a short time. glad everything is going smooth with your tractor operation. I have about 4 acres of grass to mow once the lawn is completed. $220 for the 50 hour maint. sounds reasonable also. By the way thinking of adding a curtis canopy and work lights (front/rear) on the ROPS. Have you had experience with either one of those installations. Also I asked on another thread about the weight of the tractor over a septic leach field and concerns about damage to the leach field. any thoughts would be helpful.

crunch, I was concerned about the weight of the tractor and narrow R4's possible destroying the leach pipe since this is relatively new soil not packed by settling.

I bought a JD because it was more comfortable than others. Convienence of the HST forward and reverse pedals allowing to control both with left foot while watching 3pt attachments and not having to strain my back. Dealer was recommended as reputable and provided good service to others. Dealer by the way sold both kabuta and JD, and with a straight face he said "besides after a few years when the novely wears off the JD will make a great lawn ornament"....

Thanks to all!!! Looks like I'll just keep the rod extended and get some JD yellow to mark level. By the way (Hardwood) seen your tractor pictures, how do you like the hard top canopy mounted on your ROPS. Do you find it adequate for sun protection and how is it in the snow??
