As for taking weapons from the elderly, that's a foul! Unless they are forced to live in an assisted-living type facility, where someone else would take care of security issues, the elderly have every right to defend themselves and their property. A random age picked by some liberal, anti-gun beaurocrat who bases the decision on his/her personal belief/experience is just wrong! As long as we free citizens of this great country show no reason for limiting our rights (such as felony convictions), no limitations should exist. A medical authority's decision that one is incapable of driving is usually taken at face value, but, short of suggesting that an elderly person's family should intervene when gun ownership is deemed unsafe, who exactly do you propose do the dirty work of policing these people? Another beaurocrat, especially created to do so? Well, why not raid everyone's homes then? Why not put swastikas and SS paraphenalia on them and say that their mission is to protect the country?

NO! KThompson, we've seen your type thinking destroy nations and countless lives. It is freedom, and the freedoms granted in our dear Constitution, that have secured our continued success as a Nation. Until we give up those rights...

I don't, but I saw an interesting article in the current issue of FARM SHOW magazine. An Alberta company, HyPower Fuel, is working on a project that will inject hydrogen into the combustion chamber along with diesel fuel. The hydrogen generator is on-board the tractor or semi. Sounds promising, but they keep hitting roadblocks such as the reformulation of diesel and addition of exhaust gas re-circulation, the article says.

I guess the result sought by adding propane would be somewhat similar, to create a hotter detonation, thereby increasing power?

Billy, I'll try the max tire pressure before I do anything else. I haven't been running them at max pressure, more like 35ish. And yes, it is the FDR1660...great cutting machine. <br>

I just got back from cutting some limbs for a friend in town. It's HOT here in north TX today. Probably about ten degrees hotter than normal for this time of year. Had to come in, eat a bite or two, and cool off. Now if we could get some rain!<br>

Murf,

I sometimes gather up sawdust and bark droppings from the cutting area and put it in paper grocery sacks. Simply stuff one in the firebox and light it...no mess. It's a good way to get rid of it and start fires too.

Because we haven't had any real rainfall in the past couple of months, the water level has dropped a lot. What I think is happening is the oxygen level is decreasing. The water is losing that healthy green look, and I've been feeding the fish more this year, possibly causing extra waste which rots (creating nitrogen?). Anyway, I had a fish die-off last year (pond turnover?) and I want to prevent it this year.<br>

Murf, I like it...especially because it is cheap! What size poly pipe did your friend use?<br>

kt, I might have some cast iron pipe in the junk pile that I can cap on one end and put a nipple on the other for the connection to the poly pipe. That'll take care of the weight. Thanks for the tip.

Call the dealer up and ask them to come back out for a lesson. Seems the least they could do. Not to mention the possibility of the seller assuming the liability involved with selling a piece of equipment without proper instruction on usage to the consumer. I know that it is Kubota policy to provide that instruction.

We let the same thing happen to us in 1941. Our government was fully aware of the anti-U.S. sentiment in Japan, because it created it when Commodore Perry stormed ashore into a 'backwards' nation in 1853. Fifty years later, the Russian Navy had a tremendous defeat handed to them by the Japanese. Teddy Roosevelt hung Korea out to dry and Japan soon invaded. How could we not have known that their commitment and ideology would span the decades? How could we not have prepared to ward off the attack that came to Pearl Harbor?

The same argument can be made to the sequence of events that led to the attacks of September 11, 2001. Had the response been immediate, we'd have been justified to turn Afganistan into a giant glass ashtray. But then the dollars wouldn't roll out of our country into theirs , would it? There are so many possibilities of conspiracy that one hardly knows what to believe.

The tragedies our Nation has suffered has come at our own government's doing, or not doing, and John Q. Public pays the price, in human and economic toll, every time.

After cussing the Poulan Pro that I had for about six years, I finally bought a "real" chainsaw this year. I say real because Stihl's products are the standard by which all two-stroke tools should be judged, IMO. I bought a STIHL MS 180 C-B Chain Saw, MiniBoss, and I'm impressed by the power and love the tool-less chain tensioning system. It might not be big enough for a lot of folks, but I've buried the 14" bar to the hilt in ash and it never slowed down.

I was so impressed, I bought a Stihl weedeater and have been equally pleased.

Sure, they cost a little more, but they deliver more as well. I'm sold on the brand.

Good call, kthompson! I had a dirt dauber (mud wasp) nest built in a tube to the air box on a four-wheeler once, and I'd torn the thing down way past what I needed by the time I found the problem. Felt really dumb. Simplest causes first...

I'll definitely jump on the 4WD bandwagon here. For a CUT, the difference in capability is astounding. I grew up on a late 70s Kubota L175 that was 2WD. While it had R1s and was used mostly for gardening and mowing, at which it wa pretty well suited, the low weight was still an issue when towing trailers loaded with firewood out ot the woods. Now, with a L2800 that has a loader (I don't know how I lived so long without one), the 4WD is really indispensible. <br>

When my dad bought his B7800 a few months ago, I advised him to go with the R4s and 4WD, even though he didn't purchase a FEL. He loves the tractor, and wouldn't be without 4WD now. <br>

Maybe they're thinking that the weight of the engine will keep the rear end in the air in the case of a roll-over. I agree, it just looks WEIRD. But I thought the same thing of the trucks in Germany when I was stationed there in the 90s. After awhile, the benefits from the design became apparent. Maybe it's an Italian thing?

EW, I reverse the fan rotation in the winter months, and you may be on to something with the question of the hotter air stratus in relation to fan location. The fans are suspended about 8-9 feet off the floor, closest to the apex wall. So they may not be at the optimum height. I'll check into that as soon as we light the fires this fall. And I've never thought about running the fans in opposite directions...makes sense too!

Redman, I think your dealer is over-charging you. I bought a slip clutch PTO shaft option/upgrade with my FDR 2560 and it was $125 more than a standard shear-pin shaft. Given that a shear type shaft should be no more than a hundred bucks, that still makes the price you're being charged seem way too much. I'd definitely shop around.

Let me throw in a good word for LandPride products. They surely aren't in the KK price range, but the quality is outstanding. Make in Kansas, I believe. Make sure you spend the extra money and get the slip clutch option. Take a look at their RCR26 model.
