Question to all you veteran tractor operators. When operating - running the loader: scooping and dumping, etc, is it best to run at constant RPM or is the proper way to vary the RPMs by setting the throttle at low idle and using the foot pedal to run? I am asking for reasons of fuel efficency, less wear on the clutch and to determine overall what is the best way to operate the tractor. Any insight would be appreciated. By the way, depending on my mood I run both ways.

Harvey - It's been a while since I've been on, and I see you revisited this thread back in November. I have to tell you that I replaced the solenoid some time ago with a new one from JD (although I tried like heck to get a cheaper one from a "no name" outfit). Replacing the sol was the best thing I did, as now I can shut off the tractor in the back yard and not have a sick feeling in my gut. It has started every time. Well worth the $120 - my hands are too big to loosen those nuts all the time, plus with my luck I'd strip the holes in the block - then I'd really be in trouble.

I have a 2001 4300, so I'm not criticising - that snow looked real light and fluffy! I want to see you plow with snow, rain and ice like we had every storm here in NY. Sometimes the snow controlled me. I do like the plow and the flashing light. What did you have to do to get the plow to retrofit and angle?

Kwschumm - Thanks. BTW, I was looking at your pics....two questions. Did you drill holes in your ROPS for your worklights? I want to mount worklights, but am fearful of compromising the ROPS by drilling holes. Also, do you have a part number on the battery vent?

So I have an opportunity to purchase a new SCV Valve assembly to give me a quick-connect on the rear of my 4300. Questions are...has anyone ever added one? Is it easy to do assuming I have the instructions? Since I haven't looked at the kit. is there a new lever to add to control the valve, where does it go?<br>

You should put the one for the 4310 on ebay. You can sometimes get ridiculous prices for things. Even if you get something though, at least it won't be laying around collecting dust.

I heard a statement on an RFD TV program the other day. During the JD Tractor hour the host said that the life expectancy of a compacy tractor is 1200 hours. That seems very wrong. What does everyone think? What kind of hours do you all have on your machines?

I have an opportunity to purchase a set of turf tires for my JD4300. About 90% left on them. Rear tire size is 41x14.00x20, front tire is 27x8.50x15. Wheels in really good condition. Anyone have an idea of what a fair price might be?

So, I have another question. Sorry to be such a pain with all the questions, but I've had great luck with all the people on this board so far. Plus, that what this is for, right?<br>

So I noticed that intermittenly one of my rear wheels, I think the right, spins a little faster than the left. This causes the tractor to crawl sideways slightly. Based on my research in the tech manual, it seems like the brakes are off. My question is, when checking brake problems such as this, what is usually the culprit, and how easy to rectify? I see that the problem can be an adjustment to a complete brake overhaul.
