tom, when you are in the woods do you keep your fel on?
other people have said about the front end and the fel moving
over several inches when you turn the wheels while sitting still
do you see/have this problem while your moving also? i also have a
ztr mower (xmark) w/ a bagger and it took some time to figure out how
close you can get to a object and turn w/out making contact. i would think the fel w/ ss would be the same. i think that i should get it now
because you cant add it on later! btw ss option is 900.00 around here.

swamfox4 - I bought a B7500 about 6 months ago and I've had so much trouble with the "folding" ROPS that I finally quit trying. This weekend I'll be putting the finishing touches on my shed that I built with a 9 foot high door because I couldn't get the tractor into the garage without a significant amount of torture. It's my only complaint about the tractor that I otherwise couldn't be happier with. Maybe it's just me or my specific tractor, but I'd try folding and unfolding the ROPS on the tractor you plan to put in the garage before you bring it home. Best of luck.

Dave - About 6 months ago a bought a B7500 HSD with loaded R4 tires, 302 loader, 60" belly mower and 12" auger for $9900, $2600, $2000, and $700 respectively. I shopped around a good bit and this was the best deal I could find here in Virginia. The others were between $500 and $1500 more. As far as the deck goes, I leave it on for just about everything. I've taken it off twice so far, and while I wouldn't want to do it every afternoon, it's not so bad. I've had no trouble with the R4's on my lawn or in my field. The only time they leave any real marks is when the ground is very wet. I also find that if I turn on a slope (a slight slope) or turn in 4WD they might tear up the grass a bit. In any case, the marks are usually gone in 24 hours. For me, the R4's are definately worth it when I'm using the loade in the wet Virginia clay. Good luck.

A follow-up: Changed out stock hydraulic pump with increased capacity 11cc/rev version recently. Noted performance increase in loader bucket movement and power steering! Not sure if some of the performance increase can be attributed two a new pump or just increased capacity. In any event we are pleased with the results! JD Parts necessary for modification were: CH13990 11cc Hydraulic Pump, CH14177 Bolts (qty. 2), CH14189 Gasket, CH13991 Adapter, CH13992 Snap Ring. Three problems encountered during this project. Removal of the two outer studs on the engine to be replaced by the CH14177 Bolts. Double-nutted for removal. Also, the snap ring was extremely difficult to seat in CH13991 Adapter. You might want to order a spare snap ring or two as the first ring did not survive the installation (bent) and resulted in delays until a replacement was ordered. Once these hurdles were cleared though things went smoothly. Best of all no leaks! We feel, anyone interested in breathing some new life into there old "50" series JD hydrualic system would benefit from the pump enhancement. Total cost for upgrade was just under $500 in parts. Try removing the dead battery and installing the one from your jump vehicle.
The thing I have noticed with any diesel is the glow plugs suck so much juice that jumping them with cables almost never works unless you have cables as big as welding cables.
or determine the proper charge rate and capacity of you dead battery and charge it up some of them can take 24 to 48 hrs to completely recharge. good luck

Ah, thats why my diff-lock only engages when my tires are slipping. One needs to rotate while the other remains stationary (or moves at a slower speed) for the holes to line up!

I agree if that is the way the mechnism works that high speed engagement could be deadly. That would be a huge impact load on the pins and over time would surely cause damage. Impact loadings can be extremely severe.

Man, that would be a pain. I currently own a Cub Cadet and the Rear and Mid PTO's are independant of one another. Wonder why they would link them together. (might have been easier to run the gears that way.)

If the mid and rear do not need to both be engaged try checking to see if there is a switch. Some Tractors have an electric clutch that engages when the switch is activated. Don't know if Kubota has that or not. But just a thought. I know my Cub is activated mechanically and not with an electric clutch.

Gotta love Valve Stems. I've broken a few in the last couple years. I've noticed on some older tractors that there is a metal gaurd welded on the rim to help prvent damage. I'm not sure if the TC NH's have that.

I just put money down on a TC40D and a 16LA loader with R4's. I expect it next week. I think the 35 would have been enough tractor for me, but went for the 40 just cause of 4cyl vs. 3cyl. (probably makes no difference in reliability maybe even less, more moving parts in a 4 Cyl, less loading per cylinder though, who knows).

If you don't mind telling me what was the price of your tractor? I paid $16402 for the 40D with the R4 tires. $3450 for the loader with HD bucket. and $300 for Aux rear Hydraulics.

I am looking to add gauges to my JD-950. I have lived with the "idiot lights" only long enough. Has anyone had an experience they could share regarding the installtion of gauges on a compact tractor? Any pointers you could provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance Mark.<br>

I checked my Parts Catalog for my 950 and as of the printing
it lists a Complete Power Steering Kit is still available.
Me thinks the 950 and 1050 should be the same kit. I also checked
the http://jdparts.deere.com website and confirmed
(to the best of my ability) that it is still available. According
to JD's website the price is $819. Looks like there are two flavors
of kits one for a tractor with the Selective Control Valve (SCV) and
a second kit without. Here are the corresponding JD part numbers:

Well I did it. I purchased the 40D with the 16la loader, rear aux hydraulics, and HD Bucket. Price out the door was $20152 before taxes and the subtraction of my trade ing. 300 for the Hydraulics, and 3450 for the loader with HD bucket and 16402 for the tractor. Sheduled for picup late Friday or early next week. (I'm guess next week thats how these things usually go.)

Tim, I too saw that ad. For the money, that looks like a really sturdy built
tiller. As far as the 855 handling a 60" tiller I would think it all depends on
your application. Variables such as the type of soil you would be tilling and if
you plan on using it on a occasional basis or profesionally. For comparison I
have a 4ft BEFCO tiller on a JD-750. The tractor handles the 4 footer with no
problem H.P. wise. My only observation/concern that I would share with you is
that it can be rough on the PTO drivetrain; especially when tilling in partial
clay and striking an occasional stone or two. I know personally that I wouldn't
want anything bigger for that size/weight tractor.

According to the JD documentation I have the standard tiller JD recommends for
the 855 is a JD-550 model which is a 50-inch tiller. The compatability chart
lists a JD-660 (60") for the 955. So according to JD you are in the relm.

One other concern might be the weight of the tiller. I have to believe that the
King Cutter unit offered by CT is HEAVY! You might want to check the weight on
that unit as I gotta believe that is approaching 700 to 900 lbs.

Hope I have given you some worthwhile things to consider. Perhaps others on the
list have more first hand experience with the King Kutter line. Good
luck on the purchase and please keep the list updated as to your final
purchasing decision.

I am in the process of purchasing a TC40D with a loader. I am going to get the HD bucket, but my question is are the bucket teeth worth the added price? I am wanting to be able to do some earth moving, not excessive, but I do want to be able to dig into the ground when needed. I also want to have the flat bucket edge for other task that don't require digging i.e snow pile removal etc. Does anyone have experience the the bucket options for the TC series NH's?Any input is appreciated.

Domenico - I was recently in a situation that sounds similar to yours. I have about 8 acres with some hills and wanted something for all around use. Price was definately a concern. I did a lot of research and concluded that a small compact would be far better in the long run than a lawn and garden tractor. I think it's safe to say that they last longer, and it's definately true that you can do a lot more with them rather than hiring someone to do work for you.
I don't have enolugh experience to have a strong brand preference, but I ended up with a Kubota B7500. The Deere 4100 and NH 21 were, in my novice opinion, very similar; and all of the prices were in the same range. All three had everything I needed and more. I went with the Kubota because I liked the dealer the best and he was the most willing to explain things to me. FYI - price with 5' belly mower, loader, and Land Pride auger was around 15K. I've used it to pull trees, pull a 5' tiller (not a Kubota brand), and level a space for a shed in addition to the usual. I've been very pleased with the B7500 in every way, but I'm sure the green and blue are just as good. Make sure you find a dealer you like.

I have priced Deere at two different dealers as well as NH. I only priced Kubota at one dealer(an he we also a NH dealer, very high on Kubota and NH). As you said different dealers charge way different prices. The One deere dealer wanted $1500 more than another only 15miles away on a 4400 with a loader. I don't remember the actual numbers but I do know they were about $1000-2500 more than the best NH price I was quoted. but again, one of the NH dealers wanted a significant amount more than another. It sure would be nice if all of the dealers operated on a more level playing field. It sure adds a certain amount of distrust to Ag dealers as a whole.

Rust! I saw a TC40 sitting on a dealers lot just the other day that had a considerable amount of rust on it. My 6 yr old Cub Cadet barely has any at all. I am probably gonna buy a TC40D soon, but the rust thing concerns me also. Any owners of NH TC tractors having problems with rust? I do keep my Cub Garaged, but it sat outside for one entire summer while I was building my shed.
