I can't say for sure about your TC29, but my 40, like Earth's 33 has both a glow plug controller and a glow plug timer that are located on the fuse block under the cowling beside the steering column. If you have your owner's manual it should show this and identify the relays. If not, go to Messicks.com and look at their online service manuals and print the appropriate page. Yours sounds like a controller problem. Mine was the timer and it manifested such that the glow plugs would either come on and not shut off or only come on for a split second and shut off virtually immediately. Most dealers aren't keen on returning electrical parts so this is one area where buying the wrong one could cost you - speak to your dealer first. I'm fortunate enought to have two of the same model so I just swapped from the good to isolate the bad.

Update on the problems:

Was able to easily bypass the neutral safety switch in the field and finish the job the machine was on. Picked up the new switch at the dealer (model run part # change - naturally mine was the older, more expensive replacement!)and will replace tomorrow in the shop where I can work on nice smooth concrete vs in about 8" of mud where the machine was sitting!

Over a year ago my mwife and I switched from a common innerspring mattress to a Select Comfort bed. She always like mattresses on the softer side while I preferred firm. The Select Comfort seemed like a plausible solution. When we went to look, we found there are several (4 or 5) models to choose from, some with pillow tops, some without, different levels and type of foam in the pillow top, etc. When we tried them out we found we only liked the pillow top versions but not the top level (9000 I believe) as the pt was too thick and produced too soft of a feeling for my preference. We settled on the 7000 model and today you'd have a hard time prying it away from my wife and I. She sets her side between 35-45 and mine is between 65-80. We just returned from a two week trip and after sleeping in hotels for 14 nights could'nt wait to get back to the Sleep Number bed. All that being said, mattresses are a very individual item and the best is to try as many brands, styles, types as possible and choose the one that makes you feel and sleep the best.

Not sure about the accuracy of the "2007" in the above post, but while in Messick's the other day picking up filters and such for my TC40's Brian Messick stated that NH is rebadging the compact line and going back to the number series and he specifically mentioned the 1520 which caught my interest as I had one of those back in the early 90's. His concern was for the problems this will cause in the parts departments. They have already rebadged the loaders for the compacts.

Somewhat true but also somewhat not. Many softener controls were simple timers where they started a regeneration every "x" number of days, whether the unit needed it or not. The newer electronic controls measure the amount of water passing through and base regeneration on that (along with the hardness, amount of salt, etc programmed in). In our case we noticed a significant drop in salt usage with the new unit with electronic controls. Both the old and new units were set with the same hardness level, but most times our new unit will go 6 or 7 days without regeneration, yet when we have a house full of guests for a weekend it may regen in 3 days. Our old unit was set to 4 days, and most of those types of controls only allow a max of 5 days between cycling.

I purchased a Bri-Mar 18 foot, 12,000lb tandem axle trailer new for $2800 from my dealer. Wouldn't even think of trying to build it for that. Keep in mind its not only the steel for the trailer and the axles, but also the wheels, tires, wood for the decking, lights, wiring, hardware, tongue jack, etc. Also, many new trailers come with a powder coat paint finish as well. It was much easier to write the check and back the truck up! Also greater piece of mind. If I'm going down the road and the tongue falls off, it's not my problem but someone else's.

Almost all of the Timber-Frame homes built today use SIP's for the outer skin. I know for a fact that Davis Frame Company and Yankee Barn Homes do. Perhaps you want to check their web sites to see if you can track down the mfg they use or a builder of their homes in your area and do some research. I know This Old House used them about 10 years ago on a barn rebuild they did and they recently revisited that project and the homeowners said nothing pro or con about the SIPs.

The only drawback with Gorilla Glue is that it has no "gap filling" capability with any strength. It will expand to fill a gap but will not be as strong as regular yellow wood glue (Titebond, Elmers) in the same situation. The large the gap the less the holding strength of the Gorilla Glue. I use both in my carpentry hobby, like anything there is no one perfect solution. Certainly wouldn't use it where there was a chance of the foam getting on the finished surfaces.

It is a recommended adhesive in my business as a hardscaping installer (Interlocking concrete pavers, retaining walls, etc.) for wall caps, etc. due to its strength and affinity for water. I tend not to use it in these applications again due to the foaming. I use a non-foaming urethane adhesive in a tube for those applications, which is also significantly more costly that say Liquid Nails construction adhesive.

The obvious is " the biggest you can afford", but all joking aside, you really need to look closely at where you'll use the tractor as well as any potential uses in the future. Size is a factor as you increase HP. Do you have areas where size or manuverability could be an issue? Based on your statement, you definitely need 4wd. Depending on how quickly you want to brush hog your 7 acres will determine the size of the rotary cutter you will want, which in turn will have an impact on the size of the tractor. Any uses that are not in the picture today, but have even the remotest possibility in the future should be considered. It'll be much cheaper to have some overkill for a few years than to have to go through the purchasing process again when the tractor you bought today won't handle tomorrow's work. Most manufacturers have several frame sizes in their lineup with some overlap in HP. You need to examine what your limiting factors are, then pick a few models, and arrange a test drive. Another factor to consider is ease of attachment of the various implements. 3ph rear implements are all pretty much the same, but what about the loader? Are you planning to leave it on all the time or take it on and off? If you need to take the rotary cutter or finish mower off frequently to pull wagons, you may want one of the quick-attach systems for your 3ph implements.

I have 2 TC40DA's, one with backhoe/loader that I use primarily in my hardscaping business and the second with brush hog, tiller, post hole digger, etc. that we use in the farming portion of our business. Obviously having 2 units answers your question about "would you by NH again". I think just as important as the brand is the dealer. All of the major manufacturers build great units. You have to ask who will service the unit, how far away are they, what is their reputation, etc. I'm lucky in that I have an excellent dealer, close by, with great parts and service support. It doesn't hurt that his pricing is within dollars of the internet wholesale dealers as well. It is for that reason I have bought both units, all the attachments, a NH LS190 skid steer, and my trailer from this dealer.

Since this is my livelihood, let me take a crack at answering your question. First, the paver walk should slope away form the house at 1.5 to 2% (3/16" to 1/4" per foot). In designing a walkway the recommendation for maximum slope for comfortable walking is 7 degrees or about 12%. Your planned slope is right at this figure at 11.1% or 6.3 degrees. As the other posters have stated, if you have the room a serpentine pattern would ease the grade (remember the old switchbacks on railroads and mountain roads?). I don't know what your plans are for handling the 6-8% slope away from the house, but for integrity of the pavers, that should be addressed before the project starts as pavers need solid edge restraint to be successful and somehow you need to provide that with a combination of cut or cut/fill.

The user name was actually the vanity plate when my wife got her corvette a few years back. Obviously meant to imply that once the "kids were gone" she could aford the car and didn't need the extra seats! We miss our two not being home as well, but were recently blessed with the first grandchild (luckily a boy for Pappy's sake). He already has a New Holland Pedal Tractor and a New Holland wagon. Going to get him blue blood one way or another and 10 weeks is not too early to start!

I currently have the BH Squealer 72 and am very happy with it. My dealer also sold BH and Woods, and at the time I think the only reason I ended up with BH was that was what he had in stock with the options I wanted ( flat-proof tire, slip clutch, 72"). I thikn the price was very close on both. My only experience with KK was a 60" rear-mount finish mower back in the late 80's early 90's. I wasn't really impressed with it but I have no clue what their current product is like.

I purchased a TC40DA under much the same circumstances you described. I'm in the hardscaping business and needed a compact Tractor/Loader/Backhoe. Also purchased all the attachements to make life easier on our 22 acres, partially planted in trees. The 40 has not been a problem power wise. I've dug a lot of trench and done a lot of loader work (just this week over 40 yards of material excavated and loaded to be trucked off site). My problem is the tractor seems to be constantly tied up in the business, so I've just placed an order for another TC40DA, this time with no loader or backhoe, but strictly to be used on the property for brush-hogging, tilling, post-hole digging, and tree planting. If I thought I needed more HP, I would have used this opportunity to move up, but I'm so pleased with the 40, I never considered another size.

If the 756 is like the 758, then it's a fairly quick task once you get used to it. Two hydraulic quick-disconnects, two pins up front, and the top link in the back. To make re-installation easier it helps if you dismount it on a firm, level surface. Remounting takes some practice, but once you get the hang of things it goes pretty quick as well.

I had the squared boom 7308 on a previous NH and I have the 16LA on my current one. I agree that visibility is much improved with the new curved boom design. As far as lifting, its lifted everything I've attempted with the bucket. Oftentimes for convenience I'll put the pallet forks from the skidsteer on the loader to move something light and its worked well for that also. Only "issue", if any, is getting used to the bucket sticking out front a little further and the impact that has on tight turns, etc. After using the unit for months now, I've adapted and no longer think about it. Probably would have different problems if I went back to the 7308.

Have the same wife problem you do. Not quite the permanent solution you were looking for, but after years of evolution, I've mounted all my lights on "frames". For those on the gable ends, some screw hooks mounted once at the peak and near the bottoms, and frames with corresponding eye bolts and the the lights go up easily and quickly. For those to be mounted on gutters, I bolted small spring clamps to the frames and these clamp over the gutter edge. First year is difficult laying every thing out and getting the lights mounted to the frames, but if you label the frames correctly the succeeding years are a breeze. After trying various different frame materials, pretty much settled on wood furring strips. Tried PVC but it was too flexible. Galvanized electric conduit works well for the gable ends, but then you have to tape the lights to it instead of using a staple gun.
