King Kutter is a good quality tiller. You can't go wrong there, but you'll have to decide if you can wait. I bought a used 52" Woods brand tiller from my local equipment rental store for less than $1K. I took a risk that it hadn't been abused, because they let me try it out and it didn't look beat up. It has worked out good for me (I've had it for 3 years). Either buy used or wait for the KK. If you do buy used, get a high quality brand with US service available so that you can get parts if needed (Woods, Landpride, Bush hog, or JD, NH, Kubota).

I've never had any problems with turf tearing with my 4100 and R4 tires. But I have clay soil not sand, and don't mow when the grass is wet.

You're basically asking which is better Ford or Chevy. Despite the small differences in specs, you're looking at models with nearly identical capabilities. I would go with what "feels" best and also the best dealer support. One real difference is the position control on the JD 3 point hitch. The B-7500 doesn't have that feature for some odd reason. Try using a 3 point implement with both tractors and see if the position control is enough of a difference for your uses to help you make the decision. For MY uses, I could'nt imagine not having position control.

You will find a small older AG tractor to be too large for your property and not versatile enough. Go the small compact tractor route. I think that you can get a new BX 1500 with mowing deck for about $1.2 K more than you want to spend (and there are good factory financing deals). Then you could always add a loader and implements as you can afford them. Or you can sometimes find good used compacts in that price range. Just get 4 wd whatever you do. And stay with brands that have local dealer support. My $0.02

I have a 4100 gear tractor without independent PTO. It works just as described. I do a lot of mowing with my tractor. Would it be easier with an independent PTO, yes. But my tractor does the job well for me. If you have a lot of start and stopping to do while mowing, then you'd be happier with an independent PTO. If you have wide open spaces and doen't do much start and stop, you'll not really miss the independent PTO. IMHO

Very easy to install. Just bolt U-bolt clamps to the ROPS. No drilling, nothing custom. I have a Bucktop canopy on my 4100. You can see it at www.firebirdfiberglass.com I live in AZ and drove to the factory and bought a blem (paint imperfections) for a big savings. They told me that they market their products nationwide through Deere dealers. I've had mine 2 years and am very happy with it.

What I did was weld my hooks to a piece of 1/4" thick 3"x3" angle iron. The angle iron was the full length of my bucket lip. Then I drilled the iron and bucket lip and mounted to the top of my bucket lip, using a flat piece of 1/4" iron on the underside of my bucket lip. This accomplished 2 things: strengthen bucket lip, and allow hooks to be removed if not needed. It's also cheap and easy to do, and looks good.

Mark, I can see what you're talking about. In most soil conditions, particularly rocky or clay soils, narrow, deep-lugged R1s absolutely provide the best traction (same applies to 4x4 trucks). But sandy soils are a whole different ball game. Then wider tires are the only answer.

One thing to think long and hard about is my example. I almost bought a Great Bend loader ($600 cheaper than JD). I believe they are as well made as my JD loader, BUT I found out that the loader subframe was incompatable with my mid-mount mower and there would have been no way to easily switch from one to another without a grueling subframe switchout. Also the ease of attaching and detaching the factory loader is usually MUCH better. In summary, IF you don't ever want a mid-mount mower or other front or mid-frame attachment, and IF you don't wish to remove the loader often or at all, then the aftermarket loader could be a viable cost-savings. Otherwise, pass it by and get the factory set-up.

You can do what I did. I bought a length of 2" x 2" x 1/4" angle iron the length of my bucket lip. Then I welded two chain hooks onto the angle iron. I also cut a piece of flat iron 1/4" x 2" the length of my bucket lip. Then I drilled and bolted the angle iron to the top of the bucket lip, using the flat stock as a backing plate on the underside of the bucket lip. Cheap and easy to do, and it adds 1/2" of reinforcement to the bucket lip. Also, you can unbolt and remove it if you should ever want to.

They can both be installed and operational at the same time on the newer 4000 series tractors. I'm not sure about the older 650/750/850/950 models.

Evan, I'm not quite sure why you are referring to a difference in hydraulic specs in the 4100 and 4110 models. The specs are identical. All of the mechanical specs are identical for the 4100 and 4110 models. As far as I can tell, the only changes in the 4110 from the 4100 are: a new plastic hood in the 4110, electric PTO and other electronic whistles. That's it. The real capabilities/ measurements remain the same.

Norm, I have the same tractor with gear transmission. I don't have a snow blower, but move snow with my loader and a 5' rear blade. I can handle 2' of snow but it does take some time to move that much around. I have R4 tires and with 2' of snow, I really should be using tire chains to maintain traction. But we don't get alot of 2 foot snows, so I muddle through. The gear tranny does not have a dual stage clutch, so your snow blower will stop when you engage the clutch. So be sure to only stop in cleared areas, otherwise your chute will clog with snow.

I have a 4100. I have a 5' rear blade that I use for the same purposes that you are planning. I think that used for these sorts of things, a 6' blade would also work just fine. I never have any problems with power and traction when using my 5 footer. The only time time I would say that a 6 footer would be difficult to handle would be if you were doing heavy earth moving or ditching. Even then, you could take smaller bites with a 6 foot blade. I would make my buying decision based on what sort of chores you need to do, and how much room you have to manuver in. If you're needing to move snow in tight situations, then the 5' blade may be better. Also, yes moving snow with the blade in reverse (either pushing or pulling) usually works best for me. I float the blade in reverse and it will push snow without displacing the gravel in the driveway. I also own some skidshoes, but I don't use them any more since I discovered this technique.

Bill, I have a 99 Dodge with Cummins, and I really like it. But it is noisy. The new 2003 Cummins are very quiet however. I would definately give these a look. They have more HP, burn cleaner, and are much quieter than earlier models.

I bought my canopy from firebirdfiberglass.com. I know they are legitimate. I drove to their factory in Phoenix, AZ and picked it up. I bought a blem (minor paint imperfections) for about a 40% discount over normal prices. They are not as cheap as rip-off Brett, but it is a good product that I'm very happy with. And they do give you a product when you give them your money.

I have a 4100 with a 49" bucket. It will lift a full bucket of sand, dirt or gravel no problem. I wish that I had the 54" bucket, it seems right-the 60" bucket seems too large for digging with this tractor. The extra capacity would be great for light weight material like snow, pine needles, mulch, etc... You can always reduce the amount of material that you load if you're working with heavy items, but the extra capacity is oh so nice for lighter material. I find that most material that I move really isn't all that heavy just bulky and the small 49" bucket really doesn't hold very much. I actually kept my 3PH scoop after I discovered how little material the 49" bucket holds. So now when I move lots of material, I fill the rear scoop first and then the loader bucket. This effectively doubles my capacity.

Glen, since you want to use a mid-mount mower and loader, then the only choice is to go factory all the way. I have a JD 4100 with JD mid-mower. Last year I was in the market for a loader and found some fine loaders made by other companies. I almost bought a Great Bend loader until I discovered that the sub-frame for the Great Bend and the mower both used the same frame mounting locations - complete incompatability. If you want to use both of these items, you will have to go factory. Also, I think that your price is a little low. You could probably get a used tractor and mowing deck or maybe a tractor/loader for that price, but not all three items. Also beware if you're looking at older models like 750, 850... It is darn near impossible to find factory mid-mount mowers to fit these machines. You could save money and frustration by going with a rear 3 PH mower. That way you could buy an older tractor plus any loader and still use the 3 PH mower.
