Where can I get a tachometer for my Kubota B7100? Automotive tachs typically run off the distributor but how does it work with a diesel? Are there any tachs for the PTO itself?<br>

Since speed is a function of flow and not pressure, I don't think that is the problem. The down direction will typically be faster, not only beacuse of gravity but the volume on the rod side of the piston is smaller and the same amount of fluid entering will cause more movement-hence faster.
I assume when you are going down you are referring to lowering the bucket to the ground and not lifting the tractor with the bucket on the ground. The latter is one condition where the pressure might be too high and blowing your seals.

I don't have any experience with a backhoe but as a mechanical engineer and somewhat familiar with hydraulics, I can say that the movement can be caused by fluid bypassing the piston seal in the cylinder OR bypassing the port in the valve. Most (if not all) of the valves used are spool type and there aren't ANY seals between port-just a very close fit. Seepage under pressure is inevitable.
By the way, if the leakage is across the cylinder and the rod is retracting, it almost certainly valve leakage. The reason I say this is because as the piston moves in, it displaces more volume on the non-rod side than on the rod side. If it leaks past the piston from the non-rod side to the rod side, it is fighting increased pressure. I hope I expalained this without confusion.

Thanx for your reply but my problem is not one of going down when I don't want it to but rather it being sooo slow when I DO want it to.

I just got the parts list I won on eBay and it shows the bolt I mentioned in my above posts as an adjusting bolt.

Been looking to buy owner's, service and parts manuals on eBay and many show a model B7100D. My hood decal only says B7100. Does the D simply stand for Diesel? I've also seen B7100HST which I have assumed stands for HydroStatic Transmission.<br>
Any insight much appreciated.<br>
