I have been through this debate for myself over the last ten years because I am on my 4th new Kubota to arrive next week, and even though the "other" non Kubota fluids may be okay I say why take the chance of going broke by saving money. I use only what is described by the manufacturer for all the obvious reasons. When you have a unit that runs tens of thousands of dollars and you are looking at a difference of cost in tens of dollars every year or two why take the chance. Don't be penny wise and dollar foolish. Your tractor is well worth the investment.

I agree completely. I overstated the build from start to finish.I agree that there are many other well made engines and well made tractors. Yanmar is a great example. I am not implying Kubota is the only show in town. I am not saying that a Mahindra tractor would not give good service for the right money. My personal opinion is that the difference in price that I found when I looked into it before purchasing a Kubota, to me did not offset the difference in tractor quality, trade in value, and in parts and dealership availability. I believe there is a reason why you don't see very many Mahindra dealers. I don't see it as an apple to apple comparison. I hope it is understood that I don't have anything against a tractor like a Mahindra given the proper context.

I think Murf has a good point. Even if your bucket is capable of its specified lifting capacity you need to be vary careful and aware of its balancing and stability issues with lifting a lot of weight forward. I have a L3540 which weighs quite a bit more than a 7800 and when doing that kind of lifting I either will make sure my BH is attached or an implement weighing at least 500# or more is attached to the 3 pt. I use a 3 pt fork lift instead of loader forks for the reason Murf states. Also using only the middle hook on heavy lifts helps keep the load centered. Only use the hooks on each side when you need things to keep from flopping around, but not to secure a heavy load.

I have an L3540/FEL/BH, exact same machine with a few extra HP with R4's. I have 75+ hours on it, blowing snow and ice, digging trenches and loader work in clay and muddy soil on 4.5 acres. I have yet to have any real traction problems. I have an almost golf course quality lawn, 3.5 acres and as long as the soil isn't wet and I leave the front wheel drive off I don't have the imprint issues. I seeded it, core aerated it, fertilized it and limed it with this tractor without any problems. I also agree with getting a separate mower. I have a scag zero turn freedom Z and can cut my lawn in 1/3 the time with the tractor as well and am not putting on valuable hours on it. Turfs are great and at times I still wonder if I should have gone that route, but so far I have been as happy as a pig in manure.

I just purchased a L3540 FEL LA724, BH90 and other options. I purchased my tractor from a dealer 4 hours from my house. White's Farm Supply (Art). The closest anyone came who is near where I live was well over 5,000 more in trade. I had a L2800 that I traded toward the new tractor. I realize that when and if my tractor may need warranty work that the dealers by contractual agreement have to work on your tractor. That means I may be put on the bottom of the to do list, but I figure it will be worth it. I wouldn't have chosen to go so far away for several hundred dollars, but this was different and shows me how much people will try and gouge you if you allow them.
P.S. get the QA for the FEL and a rear remote from the dealer. Much cheaper now than retro-fitting

Tractor supply and most auto parts stores sell them as well. They are great to have. You also use them to siphon old gas out of small power equipment. Use a quality oil as well. You use so little it is not worth the inexpensive brands. I like synthetics. Lucas, Amsoil, etc. Synthetic is by no means necessary, but it does not break down as fast under heat or high pressure.

If you go to the search bar on this site and type in 'snow removal pipe bucket' a thread will come up 'plowing snow with a front end loader'. There are other threads and many references to this point that can be searched on this site. You can also use this technique for the rear blade as well. You basically take a pipe and slot it with a 4' grinder and weld nuts on to the pipe at intervals for placing bolts through to pressure hold the pipe in place to edge of the bucket edge or blade edge. It allows you to float with minimal reaction to the surface below. May be Murf will see this post and respond more in depth and accurately than I can.

I was going through my key inventory and realized that the numbers on my previous tractor L2800 from a different dealer from 2 years ago is identical to my new L3540 keys. How many different key patterns do they make? I know from the past that when I got additional keys that they were pre-made and figured they came from a selection of specific keys. I find it interesting and convenient that they match. Is there any concern though about other people potentially having the key to my tractor?

I live in the NE as well. Northern Ct. and I have a horseshoe driveway that is about 500 to 600 ft long and a fairly large parking lot area (all stone and millings) along with blowing a path in a 2 acre pasture. I originally handled it with a BX22 with a front mount and handled it just fine (threw 10 to 14" just fine). I traded it for a L2800 a couple of years ago and just last week replaced it with a L3540. It wasn't because of the snow removal capability. I needed more loader, 3PT and BH capability. I am currently using a 3pt rear blower because I did not want to lose my FEL for the winter and the cost of a front mount (approx. 6500.00). That said I miss having a front mount snow blower. The cost of a bx series front mount is also a little more than half of what it would be on the L series tractor if I am not mistaken. Don't know how much for the B series front blower. The Bx series tractor is the biggest little tractor you will ever find and the maneuverability with it for nursery work would be an advantage. The loader specs on my BX22. was around 480 #'s. Now the BX's are up around 760#'s plus. The Bh on it is really strong. Good luck on whatever you decide. I am definitely a believer in the Kubota line up.

I have a L2800 w/FEL/BH 75 with 100+plus hours on it in excellent condition. I am looking to trade it for a L4400 w/ also same equipment. What is a fair price for the L4400 and how much do you think my L2800 is worth.

I used to carry a pistol at all times. I no longer own one for my own reasons, but I spend a lot of time outdoors, hiking, canoing and biking and always have a substantial Dozier knife (horizontal kydex sheath) readily available, a quality multi tool (leatherman), a good pocket knife (case), compass and quality lighter (weatherproof butane), matches, flashlight (surefire), and a walking stick. I am trying to no longer be afraid of being afraid. Preparedness vs. paranoia. If I go down then so be it, but I will try and do some considerable damage before I do. FYI, Black bears don't bother people. I have heard there has been only one reported death by one to a human in North America in over a hundred years. That info may be incorrect and if it is I stand corrected. Cougars and brown bears can be a legitimate threat and can understand the concern there. Though I have also been told that most guides in Alaska will use mace on a bear before a firearm. Most of all pay attention. Good luck to you all and hope you never have the need to have to use any of these self-defense strategies.

I traded my BX22 for my L2800 and what a difference. That bx was the biggest little tractor I have ever seen and had my needs not changed I would have kept it a lot longer. If the tractor is as clean as you say than it sounds to me like a fair price. I don't remember the exact numbers on my purchase (L2800 HST, LA463 fel, BH75)because it included the trade for the bx22 along with a Sitrex spreader, 72" rear finish mower and a 64" 3pt snowblower. I am pretty sure it was right around 25,000. I am a firm believer in the HST, it spoils you quick. I live in New England and the prices out here are always a good 5% to 7 % higher than most of the other areas around the country from what I see from watching this forum. You might consider getting some prices for a L2800 from a local dealer. Unless you need the PTO hp, for the most part all the 3400 will do over the 2800 is use more fuel.

Here in Ct. I could not find a BX 1500 new and the used ones people wanted close to 9,000 just for the tractor. I ended up buying a Scag zero turn freedom Z for 5500.00 with a 19hp Kawasaki motor and have literally cut down my mowing time to a third of the time it used to take. I was skeptical at first but now I am a believer. I called 6 different dealers in a 100 mile radius from where I live and if I had come across a new BX 1500 for that amount of money or anything close to it I would have jumped on it. The closest thing I could find was a 2000 BX 2200 with 60"mmm w/ 650 hours on it for 6500.00. I waited a few days to decide and then it was gone.

I have found my head swimming from all the choices available for 3pt tillers. I have a Kubota L2800 hydro and was looking for a good unit for the money. Sounds like from some other posts that the King Kutter may fit that. Has anyone had any problems with that make of tiller. I will be using it for 1/4 to 1/2 acre of tilling at most. Any advice would be appreciated.

I have really got some good use out of my BH so far and highly recommend getting one. It came with a 16" bucket and I paid for an additional 9" or 10" bucket for trenching, post holes and root digging. It has all the power you need. Any other questions don't hesitate to ask.

I know for storage this selection may not be practical, but I believe that a serious consideration would be a an L-series tractor. I traded in my BX22 for a L2800 w/ bh75+fel and am very glad I did. You don't get the mid pto, which I don't need, but you get a lot of tractor for the money. Not many bells and whistles, but a great work horse and would put a big dent in the remaining 95 acres should you decide to go there. Art sold me on making the selection last year, I would like to know what he thinks.

I truly believe that you won't regret the upgrade, the versatilty alone w/ the BH is really handy. It is amazing how well they hold their value. I traded in my bx22 (the original TLB SCUT from Kubota) after 3 1/2 years and got 75% trade in value. It probably would have held there from then on, but my needs changed and so the story goes.

Thanks for getting back to me. I did some research and for now I am going to stay with my garden tractor for cutting my grass for now. It is only a couple of years old and I will probably go with something a little bigger when I do decide to go upgrade.

I have the L2800 with R4's and love it. I was very torn though with whether or not to go with the turf's. Sometimes I wish I had. I am not slighting JD in any way, but the L2800 is hard to beat for the price by anyone. That price sounds fair.
