I just bought a 1630 with 231 hours and the price was 12K. A new frontend loader was a $3500 option. The date of manufacture is located on a tag attached to the transmission on the left side of the tractor. Under the title of UNIT. The first number is the last digit of the year.The second is a letter for the month,e.g. E=May,F=June,G=July.

Larry, I live in Michigan. Get the block heater if you want to protect your investement.(sorry I'm behind in my replys - had some work to do). Yes it will probably start without one but it is - as the other man said - a cheap ins. policy. You give your wife a warm place to sleep don't you ? We need to take the same care of our tractors.

If the pond is very large you may not want to do it with a walk behind. I have a swisher pull behind mower deck. It has its own motor to run the blades and has good height adjustment. I have mine hooked up off-set from the tractor so it will mow 4 feet to the left of my underbelly mower. This allows me to mow under trees etc. without scratching the paint on my compact.<br>Since the mower is relatively light and it has wide inflatalbe tires it sounds like it might be something to look at to mow around a pond. Plus there are added benefits like being able<br>to mow an additional 4 ft. swath on the outside of your underbelly mower. <br>There are at least 2 diff. manufacturers of these and I know some are available thru Northern and Tractor Supply Co.<br>Hope this idea is helpfull.

I agree with your argument that the turn brake manuever on the JD is better than other compacts. I echo Doug's comment about there could be a better design on the Kubota. I just thought of your emergency braking scenario to be a bit silly, that's all.

Blue Diamond advertise the ultimate clean up attachment. It is a five foot opening grapple similar to one found on a dozer. This unit relaces the loader bucket and presumable works off of the existing hydraulics. Has anyone used this grapple on a John Deere tractor?

Loaders are expensive - especially if you don't particularly need one! New loaders tend to be $3000 or more. The 430 costs between $400 and $600 more than the 420, but worth it - I think (I've used both). The 430 doesn't lift much more weight, but reaches nearly 1 foot higher, seems to operate much more smoothly, and - at least for the ones I've used - goes on and off easier.<br>Only you can determine what you need - snow removal, digging in the dirt, pulling fenceposts, hoisting shingles up on a roof, etc., etc. I'd also suggest that you should decide what size bucket you want too, maybe a 5' for digging, 6' for mostly snow removal, etc.

I just got a 4300 and only have 4 hours on it. I have not used the PTO yet but have done some grading with a box grader and have had it on the open road in the high range. So far it seems ok other than very limited power in high range. I came to a very small hill and the tractor stalls out. I needed to stop and shift into 2nd range to pull the most limited of grades. Does this seem normal or do I have a problem here? Dave

I'm so glad you've asked this question. I've wonder the same thing, yet decided against putting the question to the board for fear of getting flamed.<br>I'm new to tractoring. In fact, I don't even own one yet. I will definitely buy one next summer/fall to take care of my newly purchased 10 acres. This board has been great in helping make my decision. I'm looking at the Kubota B2710/L3010 -and- New Holland TC25/TC33. I'd like to plow under portions of the field grass, think weeds, and uneven terrain and plant lawn type grass seed. Question is how much tractor do I need? And, if 32-33 hp is not enough for pulling a 1, maybe, 2 bottom plow, then I'll have to hire it out. Then my decision is easy, go 25-27 hp. Sure the plowing/planting of a lawn maybe a one time thing, but what if I what to put in a 1/2 acre garden. Then I would need to plow that under every year. Then the hp would come in handy. Again the question...will a 32-33 hp machine pull a 1 or 2 bottom plow. If so, then that begs the question...What might be the limit on the the number of bottoms you can pull with a compact...3 maybe 4?<br>Any help on the plowing capabilities of compacts would be great!<br>Thanks,<br>Dave

The 2100 has power steering, the 7300 doesn't,<br>this makes it easy for my wife to use, especially the loader.<br>Also the 3 point hitch is different than the 7300. As for the 2400 if you have the $ get one, I'm<br>sure it's a great machine too. I happened to get a good deal on the 2100 with a trade so<br>I took it.

Al, I ordered the same 4300 hydro on April 12 and now have a ship date from the factory of July 14. I am in Oregon so it will take 7 to 10 days to get it here and then a few days for dealer prep. I would very much be surprised to see you get you 4300 as soon as your dealer has indicated as I understand the JD builds and ships these units on a first come first serve basis. I had asked my dealer since they are the largest in the area if they did not have some pull with JD in the factory requests and he indicated that JD didn't offer any special deals to large buyers of their machines. If what I have been told is true I suspect you will have at least 12 to 13 weeks delay. Your dealer has an incentive to give you a shorter timeline to keep your order. Once you've waited 8 weeks it is easier to modify the original committment by telling you
