Look on midlawns (link attached) for a good comparison. There in Missouri... You'd have to shipping, but you would get 18.2% off MSRP and wouldn't pay sales tax.

I priced out a 4310, 4WD, Hydro, R4 tires, DSCV, Mid-PTO, Cruise + Speed-match:

JD's price ----- $20,640.00
Midlawns price - $16,880

( 20,640 - 16,880 ) / 20,640 = 18.2% off JD MSRP

Ya might shop around a bit... I was able to get 18+ % off / no sales tax on my 4110 from my local dealer.

I don't know how much merit... your county tracking you down to pay sales tax has? Each state may be diff. though. I've bought several big ticket items out of state and never paid sales tax on any of them... there was a thread (I think) where a dealer put this myth to rest... but I don't have it handy.

Looks like lots of questions/misunderstandings... I'll try to answer'em all.<br>

DRankin... No, I'm not using the lower link ends as the C.G.. The C.G. I'm using is the C.G. of the item attached to the 3pt. hitch e.g. blade, I-match hitch... etc. The lower link ends are the datum location.<br>

For example the C.G. of the JD ballast box is 7.5".... The ballast is a big square box 15 inches long... since it's square... it's C.G. will be centered. <br>

I used a offset C.G. on the blade. With the I-match hitch installed, the measurement from the tractor's lower link pin hole to the rear of the blade is ~ 38.5 inches. Since all the blades "meat" is to the rear of the blade. I set the blade's C.G. at 75% of it's length (38.5" * 0.75 = ~ 28.9")<br>
**** since I assumed a 2" arm on the I-match hitch (see below)... it thru these measurements off by 2".<br>

The I-match's C.G. should have been centered... I think I put it had a 2" arm... That is incorrect it's arm is zero. ...75lbs * 0inch arm = 75lb-inches of moment not 150.<br>

Ducati996... The formula is very simple... The formula is weight * arm = moment. Duc... this is mechanical leverage and fulcrums! <br>
I never said don't follow the manual... the topic that started all this was someone mentioning the RB1060 blade didn't provide adequate ballast vs. JD's 3pt. ballast box. I kinda thought the same thing too... but after doing the math... blade provides more of a "ballast" than the ballast box.<br>

Here I'll explain a bit:<br>

Weight - self expilanitory.<br>
Arm - is the distance from the datum to the C.G. of an item.<br>
Moment - is the resultant force exerted.<br>
Datum - is a location (any location) used in calculating the arm. The datum location in this example will be the lower link pin hole, but it could be anywhere... makes no diff.<br>

A very simple example of this is holding a 5lb weight in your hand. Keeping the weight close to your body, raise the weight. Now do the same thing, but extend your "arm." The force required to overcome the extended "arm" is much greater. Because the moment of the item is much greater.<br>

It's really no diff. than 2 kids on a teeter-totter(sp). The closer to the center(fulcrum)the kids are the less moment they have.<br>

Please don't confuse fulcrum with datum... fulcrum is the pivot point... and datum is any location (as long as it's consistent) used in computating moment. You could make the datum 50 feet in front of the tractor but the moment calculations will have the same % of diff.<br>

Hope I'm not too late,

I have a 455 hydro and a 4110 hydro... comparing the 2 tractors by comparing HP doesn't even begin to tell the true story. The 4110 will make the 455 look stupid. Please don't be fooled by the HP rating... it's all in how that HP gets to the ground.

BTW the 2210 and the 4110 use exactly the same part # engine. The 2210's HP is rated and something like 3100RPM while the 4110's is rated at 2650. Both tractors should produce about the same "engine" torque.

I have 3 acres also... the 4110 has been a life saver.

Any tips on transplanting trees from the woods to my front yard... I'd like to transplant trees that are 2-3"'s in DIA.<br>
One of my major concerns is getting enough of the roots for the tree to survive.<br>

There are 3 "versions" of the 4100... the G,H, and N. I'd assume the N is the latest and greatest 4100. All flavors appear to be very similar.

The only diff. I know of (which was pointed out by someone else here) is that the lower 3PT. arms on the G/H models are diff. from the ones used on the 4100N... the 4110 use a completely diff. set of arms.

I'd like to see the JD specs on the 4100... just to know what the real diff. is.

I've had the 4110 hydro w/FEL,R4 tires for a week. I've dug a 15' x 20' 4-6" deep "hole", moved 20 ton of crush-n-run, and I am currently working on a 80 ton pile of top soil.

Anywho... regardless of the theoretical losses that are being beat to death here... the 4110 hydro is more than up to the task. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Hardwood, I just now looked at the Land Pride QH on the net... looks the top hook on the Land Pride version will also be too tall to go under the upper ballast box pin. If ya get a chance, let me know how tall your upper hook is on the Land Pride QH.

From the top of the JD ballast box to the center of the upper pin is 2 5/8" the upper hook on the JD i-match hitch is 4" tall... no way it can fit under.

haha... it's here... it's here, and brand, brand new... 0.8hrs, Man what a tractor... makes my 455 look /feel like a toy :)

The dealer took care of the scratches I had mentioned earlier without any input from me... Thank goodness.

I filled the ballast box with approx. 8, 80lb bags of concrete and installed 2 pieces of PVC to hold my shovel and rake. That's a great idea... Thanks to ??????

The hydro seemed awful noisy... I guess it'll quite down a bit with some breaking-in. Also, the reverse pedal is much stiffer in high-range than it is in low-range... kinda weird.

Guys/Gals I cannot thank you enough for all you advice... Man I'm happy :))

Good point about the torque guys... I didn't think about that. To me, that makes the 4110 a clear choice

I went to the dealer and priced a 4110 hydro w/ FEL, R4 tires, and folding ROPS at 14,000 + tax.

Although the JD brochure states that a 3pt. mower (61" and 72" I think)can be mounted on the 4110, the dealer advised against putting a 3pt. mower on such a small tractor. I'm not exactly sure what he meant! We never discussed the 4110's ability to run the 60" MMM.

So that brings up a major concern for me... will the 4110 be capable of handling a 60 MMM? If the 4110 can't handle the 60" MMM or rear mount mower, I'd opt. for the 4115. I like the idea of being able to quickly remove the 3pt. mower... but what to do?
