I am not familiar with the L3240 but I have an L3400HST. I would reccomend the HST. I originally was going to get a gear unit but my dealer talked me into the HST and I am glad I did now.

I bought a 2005 L3400 HST and I noticed right away how jerky the 3PT lift was. I called my dealer and he sent a guy over to look at it. He said that ws not right and they researched it on their Kubota web site and found a fix. They replaced the valve with a different model valve and now it is much smoother. There have been quite a few posts about this and most have been covered under warranty.

If your dealer won't help you could try your Kubota rep and explain that it would have been fixed free if you would have complained from the start and now you really need it fixed.

If the site glass is all yellow on level ground it is over full. You will see the yellow/white when it is a proper level. This wll not really hurt anything though unless it is way over full.

The tinny rattle sound that goes away when you press the clutch in is normal.

The whine when operating is also normal. Kubota recommends running the engines of HST rigs at PTO speed. This minimizes the whine.

Use the lowest range practical for the work your doing.

But most important, enjoy your L3400.

I love my L3400 HST. I think you'll find that 27PTO HP is plenty for anything you'll do with a tractor that size.

I have a King Kutter 72" rake to which I added gauge wheels. It does a very nice job of gromming my gravel 3/4 mile trail. I would not use it on grass even with the gauge wheels. When it touches the grass it tears out a chunk.

I've never heard of them but I'd guess they are Chinese. I always say the dealer is more important than the brand. Is the dealer close? Do they have good service and parts? Ask for references.

I have a friend who bought a Chinese tractor from a farm store and is regretting it now because of the service issue.

www.kubota.com works fine here. The Kubota sign appears until the site is loaded. It takes about 10 seconds here. It allows to you select a high or low speed connection after it loads. If you have dial up you may have to wait a bit.
