I amire you. I started off looking at the 7800 (for the mid PTO) then kind of looked at the 3030. My local dealer told me that was my options for a 30hp mid PTO Kubota. I stopped by a different dealer that had the 7800 and 3030 in stock.

He was so wonderful. Turns out the GL3240 (all grand Ls) have an option of a mid PTO. This wonderful guy was able to help me spend that extra money I didn't know what to do with. Well I haven't bought it yet, I figure the tax refund will pay for the extra tractor.

I'm sure you will love the 3030, I know I would have.

You can check to see how many lug nuts your wheels have. Usually the 5 lug wheels go up to 3600 lbs. If you have 6 lugs you could have a 5000 lb axle.

Does anyone know if you can still use the 3pt hitch if you get a front mount rear PTO driven blower? I've ruled them out because I would like to have the option of using a rear blade or maybe a weight box. A mid PTO limits you to a Grand L or a B series.

I'm not doubting that Super UDT is better but on the other hand there are lots of hydraulic equipment that doesn't use synthetic hydraulic oil yet operates in extremely cold temperatures. Does your BH have a pump driven off the PTO, I'm assuming it does, or does it connect to your tractor's hydraulics? Also as someone who lives in an area that sees -40 temps I try to avoid using any equipment. If I have to I either store it inside to keep it warm or preheat it with a space heater to warm it up because it is so hard on the equipment.

I think that's the optimal RPM for the motor and the PTO gear ratio is set up so at that engine speed the rear PTO will be spinning at 540 RPM. Lower engine speeds will just slow the PTO below the recomended speeds. You very well might find the MM runs just fine with less RPMs, even lighter fluffy snow may not need the blower at full speed. Some of the older models had a two speed PTO (540/ 1000). That was nice because you could run the motor at a lower RPM and in the higher PTO RPM if you weren't taxing the motor too much and save some fuel. Of course you could run PTO attachments at a speed much higher than they were built for too, hense I'm not sure if the two speed PTO's are offered anymore.

I saw an auction on ebay for a skid steer for #1000 that came with free overnight shipping by FedEx. I think since then these scam artists have come to learned to try harder to hide flaws like shipping a large piece of equipment overnight.

Any auction that asks you to e-mail him not through ebay is a big question mark. If you have a question if an auction is ligit just send a note to ebay's fraud department and ask them.

I know this is an old post but I have a great way to clean spark plugs. Works super great if you are having issues starting a motor (assuming it's a spark issue). Get yourself an ingiter coil from an oil furnace. If you put the tip of the plug on one of the two terminals and a screw driver to the base of the plug to the other terminal. Be careful, never said this was safe, but plug the coil in and give it a few minutes. You can see the plug cleaning itself. The color of the spark will change. I've had plugs that were so fouled that at first the spark just traveled down the insulator, a few moments later the carbon was going up in smoke as the insulator heated up, good as new. If you install it back in the engine while it's hot it's much less likely to foul.

Of course this is can be dagerious, do not go near the plug while the coil is plugged in. Wear safety glasses as the plug will get hot and burn the oil/ carbon off. Keep anything flamable far away. Be careful handling the plug afterwards, it is very hot.

The only reason I'm telling this "old timers" secret is because I once got some bad gas (I think the place I bought it from dumped old oil or something in the storage tank). Everytime I went to start the engine the plug would foul. After 3 trips to the store getting new plugs then trying the sandblasting trick my neighbor taught it to me, worked the first time. The engine started right up and for the first few minutes ran with a skip until the old gas was worked out of the carb then ran great.

The small engines with one cylinder are much more susceptible to fouling.

I know this thread is prettyold but thought it was a good place to post this. My step brother has the same problem (rocks and mowing not hurricanes). His solution was to buy 5 used push mowers and gang them together. Up here in Vermont you can usually find someone selling ones he pulled from the dump, in his case less than a mile down the road. $5 each and a discount if he brings back the old one. He goes through about 6 a year, lol. Just thought I would share.

I would tell anyone to by the BFG all terrains KO's. My Tundra has about 130K now and is on it's second set of BFG's. They may not be the smoothest riding tires, not that they are bad, but I run them year round up here in Vermont. Any tire that hands snow, mud, etc and lasts 50k miles with great traction is worht the extra money. Because the Tundra uses 265/70s (BFG doesn't off it in this size) but the tire dealer said Toyota recomends a slightly wider tire (275/somethings) as an alternate. They don't make any noise that I've noticed. I think Tirerack has user comments.

Art I assume it could be done but is it a kit to add a center PTO to a 7800 or do you have to buy each piece? Is this something that needs to be done by a trained professional or could someone do it who had plenty of mechanical skills? Roughly how much would it cost and how long of a job is it?

Have you thought about buying a full size backhoe or excavator? You could do the hard work and then sell it later. I bought some land and wanted to build a house on it. My first thought was a compact with a hoe but found it was cheaper to just buy a full size hoe. I bought a used Case 580K from an auction and the work I have done with it would have killed a Kubota. Up here in Northern VT it very rocky, I wouuld routinely be moving rocks of the size you had talked about wanting to move. Of course now that the bulk of the work is done and I could use a compact I'm facing the delema of do I sell the backhoe or not. Even today I was using it to push back 10 foot high snowbanks.

I agree the dealer makes all the difference. There's at least 3 Kubota dealers close to me, at least two Deere, and as of recent two NH and one Case. Because I'm thinking of used (although good used machines sell for close to new price) a dealer and the size of his parts department does make a difference. Unfortunately I've found that the green parts (at least for construction equipment) tend to be priced high.

There's one Kubota dealer close by who sold a BX to a friend who has lost any chances of me doing business with him. He bought a 3pt blower for it (not at the same time) from the same dealer. After a few hours of use he noticed oil leaking out of the back. Turns out that the drive shaft for the blower was putting pressure on the PTO shaft and had cracked the housing. After going back to the dealer he was told his PTO shaft was too long and should have been cut.

Since I haven't seen it I can't say if that's the case or it my buddy didn't install it correctly. To me for a $2000 attachment from a loyal customer you ask if he can bring in the machine to make sure it's set up correctly. I'm willing to spend extra money to support a local guy but for that extra money I expect give me more. Even if it's a little advise or to keep a record as to what I own so when i show up needing a part they know all the information I need.
