Much like yourself, I found myself needing to do something as my old reliable trimmer died, the hedge trimmer was to cumbersome, and the trees grew too tall to reach.

I removed all my grass, and replaced with various colored landscape stone, dug up all the hedge and buried it, and cut down all my trees and split the wood for this winters firewood! TADA - - - ALL DONE !! LOL

Seriously, after doing alot of research, I eneded up buying a Stihl FS90R trimmer, with a straight shaft assembly. This unit offers a quick change head (two set screws) to change from string head, to 22 inch hedge trimmer with 130 degree angle adjustment capability, to a 12 inch tree brach pruning saw attachment. One can change attachments literally in a five second count.
I love it, and wished that I had such a tool some years ago.

Murf made a great point that I had struggled with as well. The hedge trimmer, though certainly heavier by comparison, offers a counter balance weight that makes the hedge trimming a snap. For grass trimming, the unit is so well balanced, it glides along any edge very easily.

What is nice also, is that this unit is a four stroke engine...REAL easy to start, and can barely hear the thing run.
Stihl even has a easy start retro kit available for folks that have difficulty pulling cords for shoulder or back problems.

I can honestly say, this thing was well thought out - I love it!

In some lights, it is just plain pitiful as it has been pointed out to actually be true, but humerous nonetheless.

Much like yourself, I too was hit with an appraisal of view. My house is on the west side of the Green Mountains along the east side of Champlain. I was told that I have a view so I must be assessed for that too. I argued the fact that the only view I have is that of a large, ugly rock formation to see across the lake. I am not a rock climber, so the rock bears no intrigue. I am not an archeologist, so it offers no desire to examine the monument for artifacts.
It sits in the way of what could be a nice view, but I have no way of telling for it blocks any view I might have....NO SALE !

On another piece of property located across the small town road from my house, I have a 1895 ca. built ice house - now used as a small barn.
the town had an appraiser come in from Stowe VT some years ago, when the state thought they new what they were doing...the first time! To balance the town appraisals state wide, they had ridiculous appraisals being made across the board.
This open grass lot (with a few trees), was assessed for a driveway, running water, power, and of course the barn.

I argued ALOT during the appeal process. You'll love this! I was told you must enter the lot to access your barn, hence a driveway. You have a river at the back edge of your lot, so you have running water. CVPS (Central Vermont Public Service) power lines, and Verizon Telephone lines run thru your lot, so you have power in your yard. Your barn is x feet by x feet, so it is worth x dollars.

Bottom line is that a neighbor had built a barn/garage nearly the same size in 1995+/-. Nearly 100 years newer than mine, my assessment was for some $10000.00 more than his was! He has actual electricity in his barn, he has windows - thermal pane, he has a view of the lake from his garage, and he has a driveway. GO FIGURE!

This assessment was back in 1995 time frame, and I am still fighting with the town to recognize that the current assessments were based on erroneous information cited by appraisers that had NO clue way back when. Honestly...it is pathetic.

So kt, ....as taxes are coming due by October 5th again, your dam story was a sure an enjoyable laugh!
I think we should all enjoy some dam beaver (story) now and again! lol

I have heard of alot of different things before, however, this one stumps me so I figured I would throw this out on the table for discussion / insight.<br>

Came across some documentation for a Great Bend 751 backhoe. Two items popped up that caught my attention. The first, was there is NO hydraulic oil in this unit, rather 10W40 motor oil (?). <br>
I was always led to believe, that the whole idea behind hydraulic circuits was that of the heat capabilities and expansion factors of hydraulic fluids offering excellent coefficients, versus standard oils (motor oils) offering few to none. Yet this model 751 backhoe from GreatBend (maybe additional models as well), requires 10W40 motor oil (?).<br>

Secondly, it goes into detail for securing threaded pipe fittings. It identifies, that "Never use teflon tape to secure a seal...." Rather "use only a teflon paste".<br>

I have heard that power steering fluid works in some hydraulic circuits, quite well. However, PS fluid IS a hydraulic oil.<br>

I am curious ~ Any insight would be appreciated.<br>

Geez . . . Sounds like the same logging crew that stripped my neighbors land here in VT. The house (big log cabin) sits on a cliff overlooking our lake. Last fall the loggers came in knocked a path up the side of the property, much like you described virtually straight up the hill.

Then they went nuts! They dropped anything and everything, for about 100 acres, leaving behind an absolute mess. Once everything was felled, then they picked and chose what they wanted, leaving everything else behind. It looks worse thru this property than the pics we've seen from the Gulf last year! Terrible just plain terrible.

Then during the winter, as the log run was continuously eroding, the water and swill came down over the road, to the point the town stepped in and mandated a catch basin of sorts. Then the stock pile of logs rolled off the stack plateau and these idiots had logs out in the road, and the drainage gulley along the road, etc.. Nasty sound when the town snow plow came thru about midnight plowing snow!

What's equally as bad, if not worse, is that the lower lot housed the leaching system for the cabin. They dropped huge spruce trees and pushed others over, exposing, you guessed it, raw run off........with out repair!

Now it runs off in to a gulley along side the road, and into the lake. Despite all of our complaints and phone calls to officials, we cannot seem to get any resolution and repair. We contacted the state, and they told us that we should call when we smell something (?)----What on earth do they think we're calling for?!

Anyway - point being, sounds like the same crew, if not from the same family! Sorry to hear about the mess, but most definitely can appreciate being gunshy for other contractors.

If memory serves, you would have the pantograph linkage on that deck, with a height adjuster arm (or more like a stick)to change the anti scalp level....believe it would be a RC60-72 mower for a 60 inch deck - *60* for the deck width, and *x2* (in this case the 72) stipulating the 7200 series

Glad to hear you "found" something that created the noise. I know, one time, I thought that the entire tractor was going to fall apart under me, as I heard a horrible metallic clattery noise that I had not heard before.

Turned out that the lock bar for the split breaks had loosened up in the catch clip. Man did that scare me!

Weird noises do happen, but 90% of the time, it is something simple.

You know, now that you have me thinking about that, the new pan was not painted, but the original from Ford that had never been changed was - it was painted black.

I can remember that Ford had an "issue" with the oil pans from this vintage, as when I went to replace it (thinking I'll have to order one at best - no one will have any on the shelves), the local Ford dealer remarked we have 17 on the shelf.
The newer ones were of heavier gage steel, as well as a different seal design. Wandering abit from topic here, but ya got the noodle thinkin' !

Definitely was painted black, vs new plain Jane.

My brother and his wife have a Honda four door with about 140,000 miles on it, and an older Acura Integra four door with 250,000 on it. (Expedition is parked for those Sunday outings...slurp slurp)

They recently decided to check out the new Honda line up as well as the Acura line up, very impressed with both. However, after doing alot of research, found that they REQUIRE either 91 or 93 octane to properly run. This seemed far fetched as one could imagine, hence the research.

Apparently what happens, is that by running the lower (87) octane, it will take considerable longevity off the cat converter, valves, etc, and over time adds up to big bucks lost.
For the most part they are similar cars, as Honda is Acura's Momma, however, one comes with timing belt, while the other comes with timing chain, just as an example. Again, though similar vehicles, quite different at the bottom line.

They are still contemplating which to get. I saw the pics on their digital camera - darn sporty looking machines.

In either regards, with the postive expereince and success that they have had with the two previous, they undoubtedly will stick with one or the other.

I had the D250 model...needless to say a bigger brother to the D200. Mine was a gear shift, and to be quite honest, I had never heard of a HST version of this beast, only gear.
The D200 - yes.

In my manual for the D250, it points out that the transmission requires SAE 90 Hypoid oil, 5.5 quarts. The Hydraulic system, requires HD SAE 10.

I do not know whether or not the D200 has a common reservoir, as being a HST or Automatic. On the D250, it has a separate tranny fluid reservoir vs. a hydraulic reservoir. The hydraulics was a Bosch pump and holding tank, about the size of a coffee can mounted on its side.

I hope this helps you out in the interim of recieving your manuals. If not, I am sure that your local Toro/Wheelhorse dealer can tell you what oil is required still.

It really depends on what your planning on doing with it, and more importantly how your doing it.<br>

From a subframe standpoint, the B7500 series (7510 included), when having either the factory FEL LA272 or 302 installed, only has a frame that travels to the center area of the tractor - nothing to lock the frame farther back. If you were to examine the B7800, you would see that there is a plate on each side of the tractor's rear frame. This is to give added support for 3pt weighting. <br>

I have my Woods 6500 on my B5200 with no subframe from Woods. However, this tractor has a factory loader (1640A) that has a full subframe from nose, to mid mount, to rear mount, locking the entire tractor framing together avoiding the strain that ultimately would end up in a tractor splitting in half.<br>
This is not to say, that the strain would not be seen on the top link bracket or draft arms from a loose anchoring (always draw checks up tight to avoid twists when operating the hoe), however, if the hoe is operated correctly, and within it's abilities and the tractor's that it has been mounted to, one should not have difficulties.<br>
<br>
If you are like me, and desire to have overkill rather than underkill, then the added subframe potentially would be the way to go. if using the Woods unit. I fab'd out a couple of plates to bolt onto my B7500 undercarriage exactly for this reason...my older unit, I have no worries about, and , I keep both set up for 3point connection.<br>
<br>
The majority of the damages occur with the "herky-jerkies". Having excessive hydraulic power,(engine revs too high), will cause jerky action of the hoe. When this occurs, one will see an undesirable stress take place on the 3pt anchoring. Otherwise, it will work very well with or without the full subframe.<br>
<br>
Common sense dictates alot.<br>

Having rebuilt several D series Wheelhorses, I can attest to the potential difficulties that one will be experiencing finding components.

Many of the parts that were needed were for the engine. That is, I had the 20 hp 4cyl Renault auto engine in mine, Model D-250. This unit was the biggest and baddest of the breed, without question....certainly the heaviest.

A tractor WAY ahead of its time. Most of the parts for the engine, albeit metric, were able to be found either from junkyards (Renault LeCar), or cross referncing bearings, seals, etc. I also found a host of graveyards off the internet that I chatted with.

Are you looking to rebuild the engine? The tractor? Tiller? The whole enchilado? Most components of the D 200 are still reasonably available from the local Toro dealer, as Art mentioned.

Perhaps, you could bend an old coat hanger and paint it blue (as ROPS), spray a rhody bloom orange, and place them in the flower garden as a rememberance.

Have you ever tried to "ride" a 19" Murray ? Me thinks it would be rather slow, and uncomfortable! ...and the handle...where oh where could that go? (be nice now! lol)

I can appreciate being rural ~ I have a little better than a hours drive to get to the interstate highway, and would not have it any other way.

I recently had a neighbor (down the road a good piece) drill a well. The well drill rig was working from 7:30 am until 4:00 pm every weekday for three weeks! What a sludge pit and run...Not a lot of water or recovery either, infact I think I can still hear his jaw hitting the ground when he learned of the depth, oh, and the final bill !

I am sure he had a contract for x number of feet etc, but it was still a whopper of a finale!

One of the nastiest rock species in our area up here, is what is known 'round these parts as Cheshire Quartz ~ wicked nasty to drill thru - eats bits up real fast, and needless to say slows the entire process considerably.
Curious as to what type of subsurface you're finding.

You should see these o-rings on the loader cylinders as well.
As DRankin pointed out, these are used in the finishing process. The REAL seal, is actually what is called a wiper seal that is located behind the snap ring that you see where the rod enters the cylinder housing. That seal is the seal of concern, however, more protection of contaminants enetering is better than limited protection. It just requires the removal and disassembling of the "good" cylinder to change this o-ring...Under warranty or not, in my book it does not warrant the job.

Having no s/n to go by, let's assume that it is a "mid 80's " unit and call it a 1985 (?).

Based on the info given, if it is a 4wd unit, best guesstimate would be between $3500-$4000 range, and one could add about $250-$750 for the mower depending on condition.
If it is only a 2wd unit, then it would be valued at a bit less again.
That is what I come up with, but, as mentioned earlier, many variables play into the REAL value of it. Do not expect this as a trade in value towards a new unit - you'll never see it.
