Add up the wattage requirement of the appliances you would like to operate to get an idea of the size generator you will need. On your pumps look at the wattage rating plate on the motor. If it is listed as amps multiply the amp rating by voltage to convert to watts(ex. 8.3 amps x 120v= 996 watts). For lights a 100 watt fixture uses 100 watts. For all motor driven appliances you must multiply by a factor of 2 to allow for start-up current. For example a sump pump rated at 10 amps(1200 watts at 120v) would need a minimum of 2400 watts of current to start. Add everthing up and you would arive at a minimum (assuming all were on at once) wattage needed to get by.
As far as transfer switches go you may be able to get by without one but the guy working on the power line to restore your power may be killed or seriously injured by power backfeeding from your generator out to the service line from your home. You really should have a transfer switch installed. If not don't start up your generator without first pulling the power meter out of its socket. And don't put it back in untill you turn the generator off.

ASTM D5345 (prediluted)
ASTM D4985 (coolant concentrate) in a 40-60% mixture of concentrate with water.

Use distilled, deionozed, or demineralized water for mixing with ethylene glycol base concentrate.

DO NOT use cooling system sealing additives or antifreeze that contains sealing additives.

Mark, I don't know if the instrument gages on a New Holland are individually replaceable or not. On my JD 5310 when the hour meter display went dead I found out that the dash gages are not individually serviceable. The entire instrument panel (tac., hour meter, pto disp, water temp., fuel gage etc.), must to be replaced as a unit.
So, if it is still under warranty you should notify your dealer ASAP. I did not have to bring the tractor in, the serviceman came to my house and replaced it on site.

I have a Bush Hog 70-06 grader blade (510#, 6'). It has the same angle/tilt as the Land Pride you are looking at. I pull it with a 5310MFWD JD (55 PTO hp), 6,000# +, with loader and blade attached. The narrowest I can get my tractor with the wheels adjusted to the inside positions is 76" on rears due to fender scraping. If i go narrower (16.9 X 30 rear and 11.2 X 24 front), my tires will be too close to fenders. With the offset of this blade I have no trouble cutting ditches, crowning, terracing, etc., and I am still able to keep my wheels out of the ditch. Offset to max (leading edge foward) and with max tilt you will be contacting the surface with a small triangular section of the blade. subsequent passes will widen your contact area and when pulling the two sides of your road will bring the cut material to the center forming your crown. to smooth off turn your blade 180 degrees and drag it backwards. at this point is where I wish I had a box blade which is really a lot better at smoothing than a grader. I need a wider blade, but had the blade before the tractor. You should have no problem with the blade riding up like with a box blade because you can adjust the angle of cut so aggressively on the edge with the top link that it will bog your tractor as it pulls itself deeper. My only problem is although this blade is rated at 70 HP max, I have bent it into a curve and it is no longer straight along the edge. The blade you are looking at is rated 35(2WD), 30(4WD) max HP. I use this blade to cut drainage ditches, make terraces and maintaing roads on my timber land. It will also cut new roadways where none existed previously better than a box although not as smoothly. It gets a lot of use. This propery is 730 ac. with pine trees ranging in ages from 6 to 35 years old along with some mixed hardwood and about 60 ac. of open that are mostly for wildlife food plots. I am not convinced that you would not be better off with a box especially on the graveled road. If end plates are available you will need them for the gravel.

Dennis, have you checked to see if there are adjustment holes in the axle bracket where the sway chains are pinned to the tractor? I can shorten the sway chains on my JD 5310 on the axel bracket as well as with the turnbuckle in the chain. Make sure that the draft links are in the fully raised position when you shorten the chains. If the chains prevent the hitch from being raised completely the hydraulic releif valve will remain open causing excessive oil heating and possible damage to the hydraulic pump.

Does anyone have any ideas on the best implement for cutting fire breaks? I will be useing a JD 5310 (5000lbs., 55 pto HP). <br>My tractor is 90 inches wide, but the fire break doesn' need to be over 4 to 5'in width.<br>The soil is mostly Georgia red clay with no rocks. It works easy enough except after extended periods of dry weather when it then turns into red concrete.

I asssume you are speaking about the lateral float position of the pins in the draft links when you refer to "float". Use your lift link pins in the float position for hitch mounted implements such as mowers which have ground engaging skids or wheels which will allow them to raise slightly to follow the conture of the ground. You would use the rigid position for ground engaging implements such as plows to prevent twisting relative to the tractor. To controll the minimum cutting height of the mower use the rockshaft position controll lever (3-pt.hitch controll lever). If your tractor has a rockshaft draft controll lever you would leave this in the off (no float) position. Draft controll is used for ground engaging equipment only. The top link sould be adjusted so there is a small amount of slack in the top link when the mowing deck is lowered into the cutting position with the 3-pt.hitch. Regardless of how you adjust the mower if it has skid plates instead of gage wheels on the front you will have some gouging due to uneven terrain and turning sharpley on corners to the extent that the ground is hard enough to support the skids. You will experience no gouging on concrete for instance, and a lot soft soil.

Thanks for the info, The B7500 is rated 21 hp 16hp pto for the Hst and 17 hp for the gear. I also have apprx. 2.5 acres of lawn and need to do a substantial amount of landscape(loader) work.

Wen, I didn't see your post untill today so if it isn't too late I have some advise. Buy the JD 5210 or 5310. I the only difference is the 5310 is turbocharged, the 5210 is not. Mine is a 5310 mfwd and I love it. I use it for spraying kudzu, road grading with a 7' grader blade, and some mowing. It also has a front end loader which I leave mounted all the time. The transmission is the full-sync. with a 3spd rear axel, 3fwd and 1 reverse gear transmission for a total of 9 fwd and 3 rvs speeds. The only thing I would do different is get the factory installed econo pto, which is a 2 spd pto that gives you 540 rpm pto speed at 1700 rpm when econo pto is engaged. Without the econo pto your rpms have to be 2400 to acheive 540 pto rpm. The econo pto will save you about 25% in fuel when doing work with light power requirements like mowing or spraying.

I have installed a 12v auto stereo on my JD 5310 and would like to pigtail a stero headphone jack to the unit so I can use headphones to cut down on noise as well as listen to the radio. Any one have any knowledge as how to do this? Any help on this unusual tractor post wuold be greatly appreciated.

Scott, the reason you will probably never hear a dealer mention an ethylene glycol antifreeze/water solution for ballast in a tractor tire is because it's against the law. I use calcium chloride in the rear of my JD 5310. I use a tube in the tires which keeps the solution off the steel wheels. If I had to do it over again I would not use anything in my tires but air. At highway speeds (18 mi/hr) you can really tell it's in there.
I don't know anything about "RV" antifreeze, but it sounds like it might be a good solution if non toxic and non corrosive.

Mike, The National Electric Code requires a minimum depth of 24" for type "UF" cable which is what your contractor, (I use this term loosely),is probably using. If you enclose type "THHN" or "THWN" in conduit you can bury at a depth of 18". Before I would allow a 120V circuit to be burried to a depth of 5-6 inches I would dig the trench myself.
If this guy's other work is on a par with the underground cable advise I would have no confidence in anything he does.

Hello to all . I own about 860 acres of timberland and a home on 5 acres in SW GA. I use my JD 5310 4WD(65 HP)with loader to maintain fire breaks, roads and most importantly try to controll the never ending problem of Kudzu encroachment on my planted pines which range in ages from 25 yrs. to 5 yrs old. I use a 3-pt hitch 100 gallon sprayer to herbicide the kudzu in gullies and places where I cannot mow. Where I can I controll the Kudzu with a 6'rotary mower. I use a 7' rear grader blade to maintain my driveway and to cut drainage ditches and form terraces for errosion controll. I use a 7' harrow for the fire breaks. At home I use the rotary mower on about 3 acres once a month or so and a 17 hp 48" cut riding mower for the lawn once a week or so(depending on the amount of rain). I would really like to have a 4500 or 4600 JD Compact for cleaning up in my young trees for maneuverbility, but I am afraid it would add too much time to my other work. I really enjoy reading the various posts on this board.

I just bought a D1600 and 5 tools. To me the engine is a little noisy, it sounds like it is coming from the top of the engine. It doesn't matter it if is hot or cold. It does diminish at higher rpm's. Is this normal for the 2 cylinder diesel? Also the sticker under the hood says to use SAE 80 in the trans, but the guy I bought it from was using hydraulic fluid. I changed the fluid and cleanded the screen, I used some heavy duty hydraulic fluid, they had some 80w90 but I was afraid this might be too heavy, any thoughts? Thanks.<br>
