John,

I like your landscape rake concept, although like the others I wonder if wet snow might blind it over.

We hardly had any snow in my part of WI this year, but if we get another storm I have an old pull behind lawn thatcher (spring tines) that will cover my intake, and I could bolt on pretty simply. I just might try it.

Of course, at this point I hope I get to wait until next year.

I recall you posting your experiences buying the BX before. At the time I think you were hitting the keys pretty hard and gritting your teeth. The extra details about your continued poor treatment just go to show what remarkable restraint you have. Keep on driving to California. Obviously this guy has enough money already.

OOPS - the individual blades were for the Massey. My 445 I could but single blades from local dealer - the parts guy just brought them out, so I never saw a package. Also, I bought some of my blades from my neighbor, who runs a sharpening service. Don't know where/how he got them.

4:00 in the morning in a storm is NOT the time to do new things.

I got off my tractor to open the gate while blowing snow this am. Put the parking brake on, shut off the PTO, and got off the left side as always.

To avoid more snow blowing in my face, I decided to come back to the tractor on the right.

Stepped right up onto the reverse pedal...and the tractor started backing up. Parking brake released - and since I wasn't in the seat - the tractor shut down. At least the safety backups worked, even if my brain wasn't.

GET INTO A SAFE ROUTINE, AND FOLLOW IT ALL THE TIME.

Interesting observation - but didn't Kubota go w/ some new electronics on the L-series?

Overall, I bet the basic no-frills approach picks up a good bit of market share - especially if the price differentials stay significant.

For me, If I could add one adjustable lower link to the 7800, I'd be all set! And coming from my Massey, any seat is an improvement { and at the rate I going, I'll need HD aftermarket seat springs soon myself ;) }

Take a look at the Woods, but also, the new NH 12LA loaders are showing up - better loader than the 7308 I think. I'm pretty sure the 12LA goes on the TC25, if not its the 14LA which is out, just not here locally yet.

Read you comment on how not to dig w/ a hoe yesterday, and agree completely w/ your advice. This morning I was "drooling" over a brouchure for a popular compact tractor, and there's the smiling old guy w/ the hoe stretched out, starting a trench about as far away as he could reach. Had to chuckle over that one.

A little help here:

Manual or electric start.
Describe Not Start - does the starter crank but the engine won't run, does it turn over when you pull it but sputter and die - the more details, the more helpful we can be.

Now don't take offense to this part, please, 'cause none is intended (and some of this is from painful experience) -
do you have good fuel in the tank - or any? (I had a leak once, pulled for a half hour). is there a shutoff for the gas? its open, right? how do you shut off the blower - a metal strip on the sparkplug (not touching I hope)? is there gas getting to the chamber (pull out the spark plug and check) (oh, and was the wire attached?) While the plug is out, and the wire attached, check to see if the plug gives off any spark.

The list can go on, but we need a place to start.

Agree w/ Tom and Mark, but I suppose there might a concern about "excess" ballast might come if someone were to hang too much on the front rack or on a rear rack. This would add to the stress on axles, along w/ the front/rear implements. Probably not able to hang enough to do damage, but maybe to reduce the "life expectancy". Wheel weights or loaded tires do not add this extra stress.

I've got a 2002 Sierra 2500, w/ only 10,000 miles but several "hard" stops (both empty and towing) without incident. So far I like the dynamic brake proportioning - no sliding when empty, and plenty of brake when loaded. ABS kicked in as needed, more/no less. I had wondered about the reliability of the computerized braking systems, and so far am happy w/the results. I hope there's not a continued problem in the new models, or that GM 'fesses up to a problem if one is there and gets it fixed.

A few years back I had the chance to meet my great Aunt up in Newfoundland. <br>

Still living on her own at 85, still cooking on her wood stove, splitting her own wood (although she has allowed someone to drop of her wood instead of gathering it). She still hadn't ever bought a loaf of bread in her life.<br>

I can still see her in a plaid dress hiked up to her knees, bent over digging potatoes from her garden for the cooked dinner she was going to make for us. And yes, she dug and planted it all by hand.<br>

I'm F A R from an expert, but from what I've seen and heard, you are right. Its actually the plan that got me permission to by a tractor, the fact that we could sell it off if we had to. I know saeveral prople around me that have done this, getting use of a compact for little money when all is said and done.
