The recommended lube for your gearbox is SAE80W-90 GL5 gearlube. An old trick to avoid replacing weeping seals is to add gun grease to these gearboxes to thicken up the mix. If your box doesn't get HOT to the touch, puke lube out the breather, or look water-contaminated (milky/white), I would run it without concern. These boxes are impossible to drain without siphoning or inverting the whole cutter, and filling with straight gearlube may create a leak you don't have now.

Cavitation, YES. Air bubbles, NO. Most likely an oil supply problem to the main hyd pump. Possible causes include: Plugged filter and /or suction screen (may be from brake lining material); Filter or oil cooler relief valve stuck open; PTO/HI-LO/Reverser valve problem (if so equipped); bad transmission pump. Change filter, look for brass and black organic looking filings to identify brake material. These symptoms can easily be a dealbreaker, find out what is going on or walk away.

The NH dealership where I work does the 50 hr services on-site. We charge only for parts (oil, filters, etc). No labor or mileage charges on the 50hr service. I find it a good opportunity to answer questions that come up after an owner has operated the unit for some time, and the owner also gets to see first hand how to perform the service and review for instance, where all the grease fittings are.

Presumably, a tractor with so few hours is still under warranty. If so, your dealer should be asked to correct this problem. Barring that solution, a wiring schematic (service manual) will help you trace out the offending circuit, and help lead you to the cause of the problem. Perhaps a wire was crushed in the installation of your loader, and is now shorting out, causing the fuse to blow. If that is the case, the installing dealer should correct the problem regardless of the warranty status of the tractor. Despite the fact that dealerships and their personnel are held in generally low esteem on this board, successful ones do provide service support for the machines they sell. A good dealer will correct this problem for you, and should be your first contact. Good Luck.

Well, Ed didn't provide any written recommendations, as I specifically asked him to provide, and we have heard from another dealer (I work for a Woods/Bush Hog dealer). I side with Dave, NO CHAIN TOPLINKS! A chain from the toplink mast to the tailwheel area IS a stock item on some machines, IS acceptable & safe. Any 'real' rotary cutter has some provision for fore/aft flex WITHOUT replacing the tractor's toplink with a piece of chain.

If your NH dealer & Alo are comfortable with the tractor/loader combination, then I defer to their conclusions. As far as I know, NH has stopped sourcing MFD axles from Carraro, current axles carry the NH logo cast in. The steering cylinder mounts are different, and final drive planetary design is different. My concern stems from the leverage the loader and its forces exert on the supersteer axle support, not the axle itself. Given the success the supersteer technology is enjoying in other tractor series, both bigger & smaller, it will probably be OK. As far as trackwidth is concerned, with a given load, increasing treadwidth by adjusting dish/rim configuration greatly increases leverage on the steering swivel trunnions, axle shaft bearings and axleshaft/hub assembliies. On compacts, NH has always advised NOT to reverse the front wheel dish for this reason. The axle center housing is not appreciably affected. JMHO RickB.

All I can add is at the NH dealership where I work, we have had 4 TC35, 40 & 45 tractors arrive in the last 60 days or so. All were either sold before, or shortly after they 'landed'. We have not had any service problems (yet) on any of the 4, or the LA loaders that are on 2 of them.

How about the air filter? A tractor that old may have an oil-bath air cleaner. If so, maybe it is time to really clean out the canister. As others suggest, fuel filters may be dirty. Do you get a good flow of fuel through the shutoff when it is full open?

Recheck the deck belt. I bet there is a thin spot where the drive pulley wore the belt away while the blade was jammed.

The only recommendation for shearbolt spec you should heed is from Woods. Your cutter driveline is designed to use a specific hardness of bolt, and you should find out what that is. If you use too hard a bolt, damage can easily occur that should be prevented. Using too soft a bolt will result in unnecessary failures, which are annoying and will wear out the bores where the bolt goes, causing more frequent and unwarranted failures. Output shaft seal repair on the typical Woods gearbox can be tough, as the blade bar can be VERY difficult to remove, and the position of the bar on the shaft sets the bearing preload on reassembly. Get the Woods seal/shim kit rather than matching the seal at a bearing house, and follow the directions. It is a really stupid design, IMHO, and I wouldn't own one just for that reason. An option is using grease in the box instead of gearlube, if the seal is only weeping moderately, and your cutter use is moderate. Your Woods dealer can give you the shearbolt spec, and get the seal kit for you. Remember to provide model & serial #.Happy cutting!

Mid PTO on the TC35D/TC40D tractors is controlled separately from the rear PTO. Currently, tractors CANNOT be factory-ordered with this option, it must be installed by the dealer.

Your description is accurate for the two transmissions, as far as it goes. With the 12X12 HSS and a need to shift up or down without disengaging the PTO, shift the shuttle to 'N', shift to the appropriate gear, and shift the shuttle back to F or R. No foot clutch. No interrupted PTO. There is a Mode Command switch that will modulate the shuttle engagenment, if you prefer a softer shift. This transmission will be more efficient at transmitting power to the ground than a hydro with equal engine HP.

A corroded lever where it passes thru the rear end housing has been well addressed. If the lever returns properly, but the difflock does not disengage, one of the locking pins has probably broken loose from the ring they are welded to. This will require a fairly deep trip into the bowels of your 1510 to repair. Also note that if you manually raise the pedal too far, the diff lock will re-engage as if the pedal was depressed. If you suspect a broken/floating pin, jack up the left rear wheel, insure the pedal is in disengaged position, and rock the rear wheel back and forth, the offending pin should drift back in place, after a while. If this works, stay away from difflock use till you are prepared the repair. The pin can not get out of its bore, and should cause no problems, other than the remote possibility of a random engagement.

I work as a NH service tech. We have changed a couple of temp senders on Boomers. The shifting difficulty you are encountering is because you are shifting non-synchronized gears, and you must 'roll' one to get them to mesh. To shift ranges easier, feather the hydro pedal instead of clutching your tractor. Clutching the tractor with the hydro in neutral has little or no effect on the input side of the range gearbox. The same situation exists with the PTO, except clutching the tractor will rotate the driveline to line up the sliding gear and its mate. I would say both of your symptoms are somewhat normal for the type of driveline your TC has, and owners of other brands with like drivetrains have asked the same questions in the past. Of course, severe grinding of the range gears or PTO drive is not normal, and should be addressed.

Use your checkbook to do this job. Hire a well-reputed local excavating contractor to do the work. If my calculations are near correct, you are talking about moving roughly 1600 cubic yards of material. Ask around, there are good people out there who will dig you a gem of a pond. Quality and price vary greatly and more isn't always better.

Unless you have seen the new TC35,40,or 45, any Boomers you are looking at are not sized to replace the 1920. The new 4cylinder TC's (listed above) offer hydrostatic transmission, fully independent PTO, telescoping draft links, and folding ROPS as improvements over the 1920 and 2120. The hydro versions offer left side differential brake controls. There are doubtless other improvements, but that is the short version. The 1920 was produced for about 10 years, and enjoys well-deserved fine reputation. The TC35,TC40, and TC45 are just reaching dealers within the last month or so, and some may not see them for a while yet.

Your 1910 has only one pump for the power steering, and loader & hitch functions. Slow loader and or hitch action can be caused by one or more of the following: Plugged filter, inadequate oil supply, worn pump, faulty priority valve, faulty power steering relief valve or faulty main relief valve. Only a thorough flow and pressure test of your system will reveal its condition.

Here is the proceedure for changing the fuel filter on a Ford/New Holland compact without having to bleed the high pressure side of the fuel system. 1. turn off fuel at tank or filter head depending on model. 2. open bleed screw on fuel supply line where it is connected to the injector pump. 3. change filter. 4. open bleed screw on filter head if your model DOES NOT have a little bleed line going directly to the tank from the filter head. 5. turn fuel back on. 6. close bleed screw on filter head (if used) when a clear stream of fuel runs out. 7. Close the bleed screw on the injector pump when a clear stream of fuel runs out (no air bubbles). 8. start the tractor. Note: it helps to have the tank at least 1/2 full. If followed exactly, this proceedure will work EVERY time. Good Luck.

Not so. Foldable ROPS are not available for any 10 or 20 series New Holland tractor from the manufacturer. Only 25, 30, and TC series NH compacts offer this feature. I am not aware of an aftermarket source for one either.
