I mow all the time with R4's. As others said, they do tear a little on sharp turns if the soil is not dry. Best year round tire (snow, lawn, etc.) in my opinion.

Mobil 1 is good, Amsoil is better when you look at all the spec.s in detail. Check out Amsoil dot com. I too am a believer in synthetics!

Thanks Art, never heard of one of these. I checked out their web site - looks like its the ticket. May have to look around to rent one, seems like it might be pricey for a one-time restoration project like this. Thanks again for your advice!

I just got my 1433 Hydro a couple of weeks ago. Ordered it with the larger R4's. Word of warning: those tires will NOT allow you to use a MMW on the tractor, despite what the rep says. The front wheel hits the front caster of the deck. Also, the PTO shaft is at a steep angle to the deck since the tractor sits up so high (it wouldn't last a week). All else on the tractor is great. Will end up keeping the large tires and using a finishing mower off the 3 pt.

I strongly recommend synthetics to those serious about engine care. Check out the link here. Note spec's like pour point (for winter/cold engine wear), volatility weight loss for long change interval, film strength for metal to metal contact resistance. Use GOOD filters too. Its the particles in the oil being recirc'd through the engine that cause the wear. Amsoil (and others) offers oil analysis service which is worth trying if you've never done that. That'll tell you what's going on in your engine including particle sizes, etc.

Ditto on the quick remove and replace. I like the RMM on my tractor - I lift it slightly and back up to the creek. The over hanging deck mows the banks nicely. I can do the same getting underneath pine trees. Mainly though, I like the quick removal.

Back to oil for a minute. Check out Amsoil's web link here. Take a serious look at the spec's of oil, particularly film strength, pour point and volatility/percent weight loss. Amsoil is a diester based syn, also (some "synthetics" use a petroleum base!). I've run nothing but Amsoil over the last 20 years with unprecedented results. 'Strongly recommend it for folks serious about engine protection!
