Well, with any luck I plan to visit and actually try out a couple of tractors in the JD and NH variety. At least this time I'll go armed with a bit more knowledge!

My weekend is about to begin, and with all the work I have lined up at home my time online will be limited. I'll try to keep up with the posts over the weekend, but if not, I'll be back at full speed on Monday.

One last question I do have... the JD dealer here in town also sells Massey Fergusons. I asked about them and he told me not to even consider a Massey. Supposedly, according to him, Masseys stay in the shop from the day you buy them. Anyone had much experience with MFs? I've seen some 90's model MFs for some great prices.

I'm glad to see a group heralding the 790. I was looking to buy one of these at first, but have been dissuaded by some who say I should go for the bells and whistles. I don't know a lot about modern tractors--all I've ever operated is an old Ford Jubilee. I've been to the JD website and it appears that the 790 and 990 are compatible with most of the JD attachments. I thought any tractor with a cat 1 PTO could use any cat 1 equipment, provided it had enough power.

Can someone tell me what bells and whistles I'd be losing on the 790 or 990? Can I buy equipment and other attachments not made by JD, or will I stuck buying the stuff specially made for the 790/990? Any input would be appreciated!

Nice to meet you, Kris! I completed my degree in Civil Engineering w/Construction Option (basically, a full CE degree with another year or so of business and law courses). I currently work as a consulting engineer in the western, NC area. Are you originally from NC/still make your home here? (I assume by your name that you do!)

Great--found it! It seems like many attachments aren't available for the 2210. Is it really a better deal? I'm assuming it's a better tractor than the 790--can someone confirm this?

should i buy a john deere 2210 or a 4110
