I have a New Holland TC40D that is the coolest thing I ever bought in my life. But, I would suggest that you buy the one you want, not the one that everyone else wanted. If it means waiting a little while, then I would suggest you wait, as you will likely have the tractor for a long time and a few weeks now will mean nothing in a year or two.

Bill - good luck with your new tractor. I have had my TC40D for just over a year now, and it is the coolest thing I ever bought in my life. Let us know how you like the SS option.

I also was (am) partial to Cubs. I grew up with Farmalls (H, Super M, and 400). I have 10 acres, of which I mow 5 acres. I mowed with a Cub Lowboy (154) with 60" mower for about 10 years. Frankly the tractor got the job done but would bog down in deep grass. I have about a 400' driveway that I plowed also, and the tractor had adequate power for plowing - just need chains because turf tires will slip real easy on ice. I now mow with a Grasshopper (721D) with 61 inch deck. It does better job mowing and cuts the time in half - can mow 5 acres in 2 hours versus 4 hours with the Low Boy. I have to admit I miss the Cub though - felt more like a tractor.

I would not be so quick to pick a manufacturer. I suggest you take 'em all for a ride. Once you look at green, orange, and blue, along with the Kioti, you can decide what is best for you. (Whatever tractor you decided on, if you get a loader I would recommend hydrostatic transmission - absolutely no comparison between manual & hydro for loader work.) I went through this same process last summer and suggest that you test drive them all, and then when you pick the tractor you want, call the nearest several dealers and tell them what you want and that you will buy from whomever has lowest price, and then try to get the one with best service to match lowest price. In the end, a good tractor will last a life time, don't pick one to save a few dollars, buy the one you want - every time you use it you will be glad you did. Good Luck.

I bought a new TC40D last summer to use around the yard. I have 10 acres: 1 acre is pond, four acres mowed lawn and 5 acres woods. My TC40D has heavy duty front end loader with tooth bar. I have several attachments, including a 6 foot landscape box that I added two removable 160# weights to for ballast. I grade my 400' driveway, clean edges of my pond, clear brush, remove trees, plow driveways (Michigan winters) etc.

I do have a separate mower (61" Grasshopper) that does a great job mowing. Personally, if I was doing it over again I would buy exactly the same tractor and mower. I can do a good job mowing (and fast - mow 4 acres in 2 hours) and still have the power and equipment for everything else.

Although I miss my old Ferguson T020, I have to admit feeling that the TC40D is the best thing I have ever bought in my life.
