I would think a stand - alone vehicle version might be the most cost effective solution, but you could easily set up your own - it just might be more expensive. The autodialer can be found here:

it requires 12-24VDC and has a simple contact input. Once the input is lost, it starts dialing. Hence any field sensors can be wired in series to this input (fairly simple).

Don't have any online pricing availabe, but I think it runs $500-600. Simple to set up, put the simm card in, and run a phone line from it to the autodialer and you have instant notification of an alarm.

I'm sure there are cheaper alternatives to the telular, but I haven't found one yet... (CellSocket went out of business).

I've done a lot of cutting with 3/8" and 1/4" lexan - circular saw blade works just fine. For some tough cuts I've used both and end mill and a scroll saw (normal metal blade). Holes are no issues with standard drill bits.

If you drop down to 1/4" though, be careful with hole drilling - as 1/4" lexan with holes easily starts to spider crack under light stress.

The cheaper the burner, the worse it can be. The better ones get their heat from the exhaust so the fire burns at an effecient high temperature. This eliminates a lot of the pollutants and smoke.

I'm curious what model your neighbor is using.

#8 is the required minimum wire size for a 40A breaker (per the NEC). No derating would be required for a 70' run.

I've got a single in/out for my power beyond (Q.D. type). When nothing in attached, it couples together to complete the open center system loop. The valves for the TNT simply Q.D. into it - and the same with the backhoe. The TNT cylinders have to completely come off to mount the backhoe. I'm leaning towards making the valve assembly bracket quickly detachable when changing over.

The hydraulic fittings on my 46BH are Parker fittings. Not all QD fittings are the same. I didn't have time to go to the dealer, so I bought by last set at Mcmaster.com - part #'s:

When I was a youngster delivering newspapers, I clearly remember this Golden Retreiver that viscously chased me for a block or two every time this dog was out.

On the other hand my lab. - if you can get past her viscous bark - and make it clear you want to play with her, the house is yours. (We at least from the dog's standpoint, as the security system will be you biggest issue.)

I've always wanted to put in a moat and drawbridge. Maybe a couple of gators (or ill-tempered sea bass) in the moat as well.

Kidding aside, my gravel driveway/parking lot gets at least 5 people making the 'full turn' (past the no tresspassing sings, making the tour of my place, etc.) vs. an easy 3-point turn near the road, where the driveway is 35' wide. I always wonder to myself when these people do this - can they read, do the not care? Someday I'll have to stop them and ask.

In my opinion, it's only there to prevent or minimize those wonderfull lawsuits. Yes, it's probably safer, but then again, if we all wore helmets when we drove our cars we'd be safter too - but I don't see anyone doing that. It's the whole convenience vs. safety risk/reward decision you'll have to make for yourself.

I found it odd that on the John deere website (link for the 2000 series tractors), the flash add shows that you can lift up to 1277 lbs (while they show a tractor lifting with the FEL, implying that's with the FEL.) There's no specification that says what tractor, etc. I would think the 2520 is the most powerful 2000 series tractor, but it shows the 800 or so lbs. for the FEL.

Very interesting... It sounds like yours is wired better (more fail safe) in the event a contact fails. I thought it was odd that the "PTO off" was paralleled with another signal vs. being in series with it. It appears they corrected that in your model.

I'm not familiar with the bx tractors, but does your tractor have rear hydraulic couplings? If so, installation will be much easier - if not, it'll be a bit harder.

Assuming the ground breaker model you are talking about is a sub-frame mount, you'll most likely have to install some hardware under your tractor the subframe mounting. If you currently use your BX for mowing, you'll significantly increase your change-over time, as you'll most likely have to remove those subframe brackets to re-install your mower.

As for price, if you think it's great, then buy it... My 46 BH from JD was around 6,000 installed.

I've cleared small trees without much effort using my JD 4110.

As far as damaging your tractor, just be careful. (Watch out for falling trees!) If you can't push them over somewhat easily, then (in my opinion) you'll need a different machine. Example - if you're running your tractor at full speed into the trees, and they're not giving, you'll have potential damage.

As far as force on the loader arms - when you scrape the ground and eventually can't push anymore, you're exerting a similar amount of force (statically) - you just need to watch out for the moving forces.

Someone else might have a better 'formula' for how fast you want to be moving when you attempt to knock the trees down.

Unless I can be convinced otherwise, I will most likely re-route the under the driveway portion in the spring when I run another drain line under the driveway. I have a 2 yard container that gets emptied by the 40,000 lb garbage truck, so it does see some heavy traffic on occasions.

The same driveway does have a 12" heavy wall plastic culvert (installed prior to my owning the propery) and it's held up, but like kthompson said - 'different class of pipe here'.

I've got pretty good slope all the way, so I'm not concerned about the freezing of the line. The creek it flows into is never high enough (during winter) to back feed the system.

Speaking of back flow, I found a really cool checkvalve (see web link). The make them from 2" to 120" in diameter. I priced out the ones in the 4 to 12 inch range, but they're pretty pricey at $400- $1300 for that range.

Thanks for the info. guys. I'll have to check my rears as see about where I should be. Right now, I'm only using 4WD when needed, so the conditions are such that a lot of slip is occuring. I'm avoiding driving from point A to B in 4WD.

But first things first... We got 5 inches of rain in about 2 hours this morning - which followed 2" of rain a couple of days ago that completely saturated the ground. End result = 9.5" of water in my building/office. Sad thing is I recently marked some low spots in my berm protecting the builiding, and hadn't gotten to them yet - and that's where the water came in.

I got it all pumped out in a few hours and the clean-up is going better than anticipated. I never thought I would be moving FEL buckets of water with my 4110, but it came in handy today. I'll have to post some pics later on.

I would guess we'll need to resurrect this post in about 5-7 years and see who made the better CEO - posters on this board or the people sitting in the board room.

While 'common sense' and people's experiences appear to point toward JD making a mistake, obviously the powers-at-be think otherwise. I've seen a ton of commercials for the JD garden tractors, so there must be quite the markup on those suckers. My guess is selling 100's of thousands of those makes up for a potential few thousand lost sales of CUT's. (The Lowes by me had at least 60 of them outside a month ago - that inventory was less than 10 the other day.)

Just my 2 cents worth.

Prior to owning my CUT, my electric forklift ran out of juice outside the shop. The charger wasn't easliy going to be moved to the forklift, so the best option was to get the forklift to the charger. The manuvering area was too tight for a pickup truck, so I used my JD GT245 20HP (gas) garden tractor to move it - all 10,000 lbs. I pretty much spun the tires on the concete the entire way, but it did the job!

I don't own any of them, but since you mentioned driving your grand daughter around - my neighbor is replacing his Gator with a Mule. Reason being, the Mule he bought is a 4 seater (back seats fold down or something for a larger work bed.) Hence you may want to consider that if giving rides around the property will be part of the tasks.
