Hello again,<br>I bought a John Deere parts catalog through John Deere for about $75.00 +(I forget exactly) but it has all the parts listing of the JD 4000 series tractors,a lot of the attacthments,also snowblowers,lawn mowers,walkbehind tillers,Utility vehicles......If I could be of help to anyone,let me know.This is a handy little CD(2 discs) it might be worth the investment to you.

Hello everyone,<br>I have a question, a gentleman I know was inquring to me about the value of a 870 John Deere with 200 hours on the clock.<br>Also has: brush hog,blade,boxscraper,and front end John deere loader. To be sold at auction any suggestions on how high to go on the bid.

Could anyone tell me what the advantage is of a flail mower over a rotary mower or a rotary mower over a flail mower,does one cut better.Whats the pros and cons.Whats the advantages and disadvantages of one over the other?Also whats the advantages and disadvantages of a belly mower versus a pull behind mower.

As far as the differental lock goes,I try to not have the tractor moving at all when I engage the pedal,it does not always engage when the tractor is motionless,sometimes it has to roll just a little when engaging the differental lock,it does not grind or make a noise when engaging,it just falls in place.When to use? The only time a person would use it is when you need extra traction,such as moving dirt with the blade or pulling a log or some other heavy object,especially on an incline when one wheel spinning is not enough traction.
I talked to a mechanic who told me he had worked on some of these differental locks and there was some problems with a few of them

I bought some wheel weights through this very same dealer,before I ever even mentioned warranty work, when I went to pay I did not have enough cash soI offered my JD credit card he wasn't set up to use one(none of the dealers I have been to have seen one)he handed me a bill and didnt even ask for any ID or my address,he said send me the money when you get around to it.When my tractor came back from the shop and I had a list of repairs that had been made,I emailed John Deere and told them it was disturbing to find I had this many things go wrong on a new tractor,a John Deere district representive was calling my house the next morning and told me he was aware of the problems I was having and to contact him if I needed anything else and I told him I was afraid of the problems I might have after my warranty expired and he said just call him and he would help me out if these same problems re-occured after the warranty expired.I had the dealer do some scheduled service work while the tractor was in the shop and I have not even gotten a bill yet for there services or for picking the tractor up and taking it in for warranty repairs,which I know I will eventually get one, if not I will call and ask for it.This is abig dealership too,they have 6 or 7 stores in 5 different states,and the thing of it is I am a small customer compared to some of there clients,who buy dozers,graders industrial John Deere equipment as well.If these car dealers treated there customers this way,car buying would be a lot less of a hassle and aggrevation.

I have not heard anything,but that is one of the reasons I bought a John Deere last year,even though I like the looks of New Holland.I did not know what the outcome of the merger would be.

I am not sure of the amperage at the moment,but yes it will pull the battery down,still you can pull for a good little bit if you have too,if the battery runs down I just let the tractor run a little while and charge back up,the book calls for a bigger battery than the one that come on the tractor.I will check the book and see what it says.

I believe you are right,I am sure I even have John Deere product literature around here somewhere that even says Yamnar makes the JD 4100,they make the engines (correct me if I am wrong) for the JD,4200,4300,4400 as well?

Hello,<br>I have a John Deere 4400 4x4 hydro,I have been pulling some logs and moving a lot of dirt,when I try to engage my differental lock,for example I am under a load and my right rear wheel is spinning and I apply pressure on the differental lock the left rear wheel does not alaways engage and at times while I am pushing down on the pedal I can feel a slight clicking in the pedal like the gears are not meshing right,but other times it appears to engage,the pedal is going down all the way to the rubber mat and there is no debris under the pedal that could be interferring with anything. If i remember right when I first got the tractor whenever I pushed on the pedal it would go down and lock no question about it.Any suggestions or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.<br>Thanks in advance<br>Hillbilly

Well,
I have a John Deere 4400 with approxmately 360 pounds of wheel weights on the back and 240 pounds plus on the front,and the R-4 tires are great if you like to move approxmately 3"to 4" of snow with a back blade and sit in 4wd with the differential lock pressed down and not move more than 2 ft on a slight incline get the R-4 or if you have to get down in the woods on a little bit of clay and spin your tires and watch the lugs immediately load up with mud and not hardly scratch the surface stay with the R-4s(all surface traction and no deep bite),but if you want something really aggresive and know you have the best traction you can possibly get (the next step up being chains) get the R-1s.The R-4s pull good on dry soil and do offer more width and stability,but if you want to get the most aggressive tread you can possibly get on rubber do not fool around with the light weight stuff and want serious traction go with the R-1 tires where nothing less will do.

Thanks for the suggestions.I have some old chains and I think it is time to improvise and save some money,I like the idea of welding the bolts on for the x pieces. I sure think this is worth a try.

I installed a "Multi mount winch" on the front of my JD 4400. I fabricated a trailer hitch receiver on the weight extension bracket and am still able to put 8 suitcase weights on the bracket. I can use this winch on the hitch receiver on my pickup too. I could pull my tractor up hill with brakes set. I thought this might be handy if I ever get stuck or have to pull a tree down or move a log, just to help get me out of a bind. Also I can move a trailer or log splitter on the hitch mounted on the front. The winch is an XD9000i.My battery only has 500 reserve amps, 750 reserve recommended for use of winch.Best regards,<br>Hillbilly

$Has anyone ever heard or seen a roofrack for a fiberglass canopy?I have a Bucktop canopy which is very strong,I think a basket style would be nice to put a shovel,chainsaw,lunchbox etc on.I have looked at different places on the web etc.I could make one if I had the right materials?<br>I know you do not want to put too much weight upstairs because of balance and stability.Any thoughts?<br>Hillbilly$ Roof rack for fiberglass canopy

I do not know if any of you JD 4000 series fans make it over to the Yahoo discussion board or not(not a lot of activity there),but there is a guy over there that used to work for JD in some position,that posts notes and advice that seems to be very knowlegable.He goes by the name of Doctor Deere.I will post on yahoo and tell him about this board if does not already know.<br>Regards again<br>Hillbilly
