Dutch, I too have a 7234 so maybe I can help you although I'm a novice compared to some of the folks here like TomG. You found a good site to ask questions. I'll give you some quick answers that I have time for right now. I have just over 150 hours on mine but thought I would do the 200 hour check a little early, probably before the snow flys this winter. Many of the things the 200 HR require were required at the 50 HR mark as well.

Well anyway you check the hydraulics using the dipstick that sticks up from the transmission area, just behind the instrument panel console on the floor between your feet. The top of it kind of looks like a big wingnut. That is also the place you fill the hydraulics. You have probably found the Hyd. Filter is on the left side of the differential area, just below the floorboards, just under the seat area. It is probably black, about 7" long and 3 3/4" in diameter. I can't remember where you drain the hyd. I will look it up but I think there was a drain on the underside of the tran/differential area. You can read the issues about the filters on this and other forums but it has been difficult to cross the CC manufacturers part numbers to another filter source. You will pay a good price buying the filters from the dealer. The oil filter is in the $15 - $20 range and the hydraulic filter is $37 - $45 from the dealer. Read my post about filters I just did last week, it will give you the part number info, etc. You probably know by now that that series of CC has a Mitsubishi engine and drivetrain. Very tough and I think you will be happy with it.

If I remember right the front differential has to be drained as well for the service. I recall it uses the same hydraulic fluid as you used for the rest of the tractor. Your probably ought to just pick up a 5 gal bucket of a good brand of tractor hydraulic fluid to do the service. You will use several quarts for the tran/diff as well as the front axle.

What AC5Z0 said about he hydraulic lines sounds good to me. I have a Bush Hog loader that uses rubber lines so I don't have the rust problem.

That is what comes to mind right away about the service. There are also some bolts that are critical to keep the torque on them. If you don't have a torque wrench you probably should pick one up.

Wow again. I just called NAPA and he said the oil filter was the Gold for $6.77 but the Hydraulic was $54 but he didn't have it in stock. I don't think I'll be buying the Hyd. filter from NAPA, unbelievable!

Wow, what a find I think. I have a Cub Cadet 7234 w/Mitsubishi drivetrain and am getting ready to do the 200 hour check, filters, oil, hydraulic, etc. I thought I would read this Mitsubishi site to see if there was anything about crossing the Mit. filters to something most of us can afford. I went to the Wix site and crossed both the oil and hydraulic filters to Wix numbers, (if they are good numbers that is). Pacesetter said he had the number for oil and it looks like we may have found the 'Missing Link' if the filters are the right size etc. The Wix site also lets you click on the number you find and it brings up the filter specs. I crossed the oil filter MD 134953 to the WIX 51365 and the hydraulic filter, 1964 2509 000 to Wix 57118. Wix is at www.wixfilters.com. Many thanks to Pacesetter. What Peters says about the service may be true. From what I've heard JD and Kubota seem to take care of their sales better. On the other hand I have a 7234, about 6 years old with the Mitsubishi engine and drive train and it has only been back to the dealer once in 6+ years. The tractor runs well and has been an excellent tractor for me, plowing lots of snow, moving trees, landscaping etc., everything you want a "motorized wheel" barrow for! I not familiar with the new version of the Cub with the Diahatsu engine and not sure why they changed manufacturers from Mitsubishi but if it is as good as the original CC it would be an excellent tractor for you.

Donny,

You say you are a dealer where are you located? Don't be afraid to list your address, you'll likely get inquiries into what you carry. I have a 7234 and love it but have thought about upgrading in the future, a little more horsepower and probably a Hydro. By the way there was some discussion on clutch adjustments. Mine has few hours, less than 150 and it is adjusted basically all the way out. Is this typical of all Cubs?

Sorry about your problems with your Cub it sounds like it was used hard. If -- Ted (at) Abbeywoods, LLC --were to read your post he might have some suggestions. He has had at least two Cubs and seems to be very knowledgeable plus has a friend who is a dealer. I don't see he has his email addres listed though.

Hope all works out for you. If not for that I think you would find the tractor a good machine.

Loren I'm a Cub owner and I'm not familiar with the size of your tractor but I wouldn't worry about the turf tires unless they are worn considerably. I have Goodyear Tera Turf tires on mine and I think the traction is excellent. I have been plowing my driveway, 200' or so plus other areas for 5 or 6 winters with no chains. I believe my Cub is heavier, 3300# or so with loader but I haven't really needed the chains.

Oh, by the way, congratulations on your purchase. Who is happier, you or your husband?

I have the 7234 model, (23 HP/Shift/4WD) it is either a 1996 or '97 and it is an excellent tractor. I believe the 7260 replaced my model series. If you read the writeups in the Cub section you will find a lot more about the CC.

I finally got around to getting back on the tractor and checking the measurement of my clutch adjustment. I've checked and double checked the measurement on the adjustment. The overall 4.9 - 5.1 inch is very close, about 5". It it the free play adj. that is still off. The free play is right at 2", about twice what the book calls for. I checked it first before trying any adj. and found it to be real close to 2". The adj. nut was right at the end of the adj. rod. I wanted to make sure it was adj. in the right spot so I loosened the nut(s) and moved them up about an inch or so. The adj. went way off so I know it was 'about' in the right spot to start with. Now this was a new tractor when I bought it and I don't think I have abused the tractor, i.e. ridden the clutch etc. Like I said the adj. is all the way out and won't adj. any further. The clutch doesn't appear to slip and I have no trouble shifting. One item that might affect it is the adjustable bracket mounted on the back side of the firewall/engine area. This is the bracket that you stick your ruler on. Could I have the wrong one on the tractor? It looks about right but I notice I really have to push the clutch in hard in order to put the locking clip on the clutch. If that were a longer bracket the measurements would be much closer. It also almost feels like when I push the clutch in I can shift ok but I can continue to push even further, to the point where the little clip would go over the clutch and hold it down. Well when I push it that extra inch or so to put the clip on it feels like I am forcing something, maybe even bending/distorting that clutch adjusting rod. Any way Ted that is what my clutch adjustment looks like. Any more ideas?

Hi guys. I'm no expert but I have been 'skidding' trees on a limited basis using the lower lifting arms of the 3 PT hitch. I've got a drawbar between them with a hook and rap a chain around the tree/log then lift the end of the log enough to 'skid' it over to a better area for cutting. It seems to work fine and I haven't had much trouble moving some good sized trees. The drawbar doesn't lift the end of the log to much so I don't think there is a CG problem. Does this put to much strain on the 3 PT Hitch?

Matt,

Your right when you angle the rake you loose some effectivity of the rake width. I rented a 6' Woods w/blade and although it cleared a bigger path while I was maneuvering I was snagging trees. I figured a 5' rake would give me much more maneuverability around the many trees on my property that is why I settled on the 5' First Choice.

This may be to late to help you but here goes. I bought a 7234 in 1997 with a Bush Hog FEL and have about 100 hours on it. I use it to plow a pretty good sized driveway, move some trees/wood around, rocks etc. It has been an excellent tractor and has done everything I have asked it to do and more. Overall I think it is a good tractor and I think you would be happy with what it can do. The basic fit and finish of it are pretty good except there are a few bolt heads here and there that have rusted which bugs me but most of it was already there, coming from the dealer. It has always been garaged so it is not from sitting outdoors. I think probably the finish is somewhat better on either JD or Kubotas. I have had some concerns about the clutch that I can't seem to adjust according to the service and owner manuals. I know I haven't worn it out but it is not according to the book. The dealer told me he couldn't find anything wrong with it as well as the Cub Tech Reps. If I'm not mistaken Case used to sell them years ago before MTD picked up the line. Like MarkS said it is all Mitsubishi Engine, Transmission, etc. Very reliable, a good work horse. I can't really comment on used price, mine was below $13K brand new. Mark, I got a letter from Watermans, a dealer in Sabbatus, ME near Lewiston. It basically said I understand your dealer is no longer in business and I'm available for your needs. I then tried to call Bob or Diane at Land Power and the phone just rings like you discovered. Thanks for your help. I liked dealing with Bob although I haven't been back for any large purchases since he sold me my 7234 in 1997. He gave me a super deal that was way cheaper than other dealers. See ya.
