It has 4wd, power-steering, decent tires, a Westendorf (?) loader, original paint (not that this matters, just a sign that it wasn't beat up). I don't know what other options were possible. It sat in the weather a bit by the looks of the tires, but besides a bit of faded paint, its in factory condition. <br>I paid 10750 in Fort Worth, TX. Not bragging, just really excited and wanted to share the good news. If you want to burst my bubble by telling me I paid too much, then do so kindly please. :)<br>It starts, purs, and works great. Already moved about 30 yards of dirt.

rgr that, they do have the angle with the vertical cut... I think this helps prevent debris (and water) from entering, but I think the main purpose is to direct the exhausht away from the operator.<br>I actually added a taller exhaust pipe to my 1050 so that I breath even less exhaust... but I don't have many trees, and my ROPS is still taller than the exhaust.<br>I wonder what effect water has on the turbocharger? that is connected to the exhaust system...

It helps if there is a tree attached to the stump :)<br>Push on the tree as far up as your loader will go. move around to the other side and try again it you couldn't get it on the first try. Repeat as required. It amazing how big a tree you can take down like this... especially it you do a little digging around it first.

I recently found a JD 1050 around 1982 Model. It is 4WD and has a JD Front Loader. Not sure about the hours, but the man wants $7,500. Is this a fair price? Also, can anyone give me some general information on an '82 1050? Horsepower, etc.?

I've done some grading with a box scraper, and now have the areas I'm working on draining nicely. The only problem is, now I've got dirt clods (hundreds of them) scattered across the surface. What's the best way to bust these up so the lawn won't be lumpy?<br>I've got a 33 hp JD1050 with loader. My only inplements are the box blade and a very nice finishing mower. Surfing around the web, it looks like a pulverizer is what I need, but can I improvise? What do you folks use?<br>Brian

A JD 1050 is 33 hp at the PTO... fairly big as far as compact tractors go. I've spent a good bit of time on my dad's JD 850 (~22 hp IIRC), I've used the front loader on the 850 for the type of work I need to do, but it was slow and fairly tricky work, dragging bucket backwards to level and such. I figure there has to be a better way!<br>BTW I did some surfing around after I posted and found

Rod, I did get the brochures on the 254y Hardy tractor.They even sent out a vidio.I've been looking for 2 months,did alot of research,& ended up buying a Mitsubishi 4x4 with new Bush Hog loader,3 point hitch,4 speed pto,9 speed, 4 cylinder diesel, 633 hours on it. Bought it 4-9-99 for 6300.00 delivered,it was only 20 miles away.Put 6 hours on it over the week end,pulling stumps,digging stumps,moving wet dirt in garden & graded my drive way.I think its around 22-25 HP.Runs great.I think I got a deal.I would not buy one with over 1500 hours on it.As far as China made tractors I also looked into Task Master.I would go that route before Hardy.Like I said I did alot of research & there is alot of BS out there.What finally made me jump was a comment made by a co-worker: If it's not what you want,or junk,put it on the auction.I've seen people at auctions looking at 4x4 compact tractors.It's like bees protecting the nest.Bootom line,you can get very good used if you look around,& I also checked into parts & manuals.No problem if you look.The inter net was my biggest source of info.There is even tractor clubs,for the brand you buy,become a member & instead of just you out there all alone you will find there are many with the same tractor you will get & its a easy way to get answers if you run into a problem.
