OK, I found the answer, but it is not an easy conversion. dBf means 1 dB relative to a femtowatt or 10e-15 watts. <br>

To further complicate the issue you need twice as many dB difference for voltage measurements to be on equal par with dB related to power (watts). <br>

On a low impedance transmission line I normally use dBm which is dB relative to a milliwatt. A milliwatt is a trillion femtowatts. A good receiver will be capable of sensitivity in the -110 dBm range. That is 10e-11 milliwatts or 10 femtowatts or 10 dBf. This is compatible with the sensitivities that I found on JVC, Pioneer, and other high quality receivers. <br>

So 10dBf is equivalent to 0 dBu or 1.00 microvolt. At 34 dBu on AM, your receiver in the Toyota will take 25 uV to give you a good signal. That means that the Toyota receiver will have a dBf sensitivity of around 24 dBf which is quite low compared to the aftermarket radios. On FM the story is a bit better, but the radio will still be around 17 dBf in sensitivity. So, the comparison specifications back up your observations.<br>

Most preamplifier/RF boosters will give you at least 10dB and probably closer to 15dB. That number subtracts directly from the 24 dBf sensitivity to put the radio right into the 10dBf range which is good compared to the aftermarket radios.

I have removed a bunch of posts with the 3 PH arms. I have a drawbar between the ball joints and I just chain the drawbar to the post and lift. I have pulled out t-posts, wood posts, and metal posts. Generally the 3PH will lift quite a bit more than your maximum loader capacity. It did not work well on a small tree stump which seems to have roots that are pretty deep, but tree stumps always seem to be problematic.

If you don't have a drawbar, you can probably just use one side or use an implement like a subsoiler to attach the post too. The chain attachment technique is somewhat critical. Make sure that you have at least one full wrap of the chain around the post alone and then bring the ends back around to the lift arms. The chain will generally slip if you make just a simple loop.

I will look up the filter number and get back to you on this thread. Mobil 1 is good oil in gasoline engines. I have just found that the Rotella T Synthetic is better and I can use it in my diesels, gasoline vehicles, race car and even my motorcycles.

Motorcycles are probably the worst, because they run the engine oil in the transmission as well. Mobil 1 does not hold up in this service and Rotella T does. Since it works better there, and is no more expensive, I use it in everything. I have never had an oil related engine failure.

Delvac oil is also good.

I use Rotella T or Rotella T Synthetic in everything I own. The Rotella T Synthetic is 5-40 and will provide the same engine protection as 15-40 but will work better in cold weather. It is about $13 per gallon at Wallyworld.

With respect to Isopropyl alcohol...

Most alcohols will do what I describe. Ethanol is a little too expensive and tasty to use in a tractor. Methanol will probably be the cheapest and will be anhydrous or nearly so. Most Isopropyl alcohol (as is rubbing alcohol) will only be 70% alcohol and you don't want to put 30% water back in the transmission.

Gas-line antifreeze will contain very little water when it comes out of the can/bottle. Anhydrous Isopropyl or Methanol from a chemical supply house will work just as well.

Check out the Case IH oil that Art White mentioned. Also, you can use an ester based synthetic fluid if they are available. Ester based synthetics can absorb much more water than petroleum fluids can.

Don't make the box too tight. The motors put off a good bit of heat. This is often not picked up by the discharge hose. My shop vac would heat up a double sized closet that was used for storage as well.

I don't have any dogs. I do have a pack of coyotes roaming the area. If they get into the rat poison...too bad. I don't actively hunt the coyotes, but they aren't domestic animals either.

I use calcium loaded tires. The reason for the calcium is that it is so much heavier than other antifreeze solutions. My calcium is at about 15 pounds per gallon. Antifreeze solutions run about 6-7 pounds per gallon.

In addition, for intermediate loads I run a rear blade and can hang some suitcase weights on it as well.

When I want to get maximum FEL capability, I have a backhoe attachment that I put on the tractor. It sticks out further, but it is heavy enough and far enough back that it keeps the rear end solidly on the ground with full capacity loads in the bucket.

My TC45 will work all day with the loader and backhoe on about half a tank or 6-7 gallons. It would use more plowing or other operating using all the engine power.

Years ago I moved off the farm to be an engineer. Now I live back in a more rural setting.

When I was growing up and we needed muscle for heavy lifting or pulling we would immediately go get the tractor. After I moved away, I learned many more labor intensive methods for removing tree stumps and moving heavy objects. (I think that I have rediscovered some of the ways that the ancient Egyptians built the pyramids.)

A few years ago, I got my tractor and I love it, my back loves it, and my wife loves that my back loves it. Now I am back in the mode of getting the tractor for the smallest of jobs that requires heavy lifting or pulling. I think that I will put in my will that I want to be buried with it.

Intakes and exhausts on diesels seems to be particularly sensitive to restriction and efficiency. You can see significant gains with efficiency on a diesel and with the expense of fuel these days, it might be worth the money. Diesel fuel usage is related to power delivered by the engine (as with a gasoline engine) but with a gas engine, the increased airflow goes through a fuel metering device that is airflow sensitive with either fuel injection or with carburetion.

You should see a fuel efficiency increase on both engines as long as you don't start using more power. But, if you use that extra efficiency to deliver more power to the ground, then lower fuel milage will result even if an overall efficiency increase is seen. If the extra potential is used to push the driver back into the seat while taking off from stoplights, you might be delighted with the performance and disappointed with the fuel economy.

A couple of other things come to mind.

My mom would buy us fireworks for July 4 (the good stuff, not the stuff that they sell today!) My family still has all their fingers and eyes.

My grandparents' houses had wood burning cookstoves, did not have inside plumbing, electric lights, or telephones until I was about ten. We would go outside to the out-house and drink water from a cistern that collected rain water off the roof that we pumped and carried into the house in buckets. It was kind of like camping out to go to grandma's house, but we did not get sick.

I am not exactly sure what your AC tech is talking about. There is no chemical that you can apply to your heat exchanger that will make it work better other than cleaners or water. If it is loaded with dust, then this might be called for, otherwise it is not necessary.

The best heat exchange occurs when there is little/no dirt and dust on the heat exchanger fins. Sometimes the type of heat exchanger that you describe is called a "pin fin". They are quite efficient. One downside is that they are extremely fragile. With a plate fin exchanger, you can use a comb type device to straighten the fins, but with a pin fin unit the distribution is somewhat random and if you smash any of them getting the housing off, you will affect airflow and efficiency. My gut feeling is that there is more chance of damaging some fins on a unit that has to be disassembled than efficiency gains that you might achieve.

If the AC unit was properly sized and working at one time, then Freon loss is a more likely culprit. Twenty year old units often still work very well. Is there any place on the AC plumbing that looks oily? When freon leaks it often carries lubricating oil with it. There is nothing in an AC system that should be oily. The AC tech can use a sniffer to detect a freon leak and fix it or he can get paid to put in more freon every year or two.

You can do it yourself, but it is hot work.

The sealer will prevent water infiltration into the asphalt. This is generally done to keep the asphalt from breaking when trapped water freezes, which I suspect is not much of a problem near Houston. It will make your asphalt look better.

Things to look out for.
Fill the cracks with crack sealer or tar first. The brush on sealer will not seal cracks!
Put the driveway sealer on according to the directions with a brush (broom), squeegee, or roller. I think that the roller is easist.
Most new sealers are water based, so do not put it on if rain is in the forcast for 24 hours.
If you get a contractor, get a local guy. Some of the traveling contractors don't use good materials or methods.

We had a pigeon fly into one of our windows and it left the same sort of imprint on the window. I had not thought of the religeous icon angle. Down here next to the border that is big! I think that the grill cheese came from this area. I see something like this on the local news about once a month. The most recent one was a guy that saw Jesus in the wood grain of his door after he stained it. As far as ebay is concerned, I suppose every miracle has its price.

I grew up in the Midwest. Every year when we would get one piece or another of the farm equipment going, there would be yellow jacket nests. They would get into combines, hay balers, you name it. We actually got used to it to a degree. It seemed that the insects would build in similar places every year. For example, they would have a nest in the twine box of the hay baler every year. We got to where we would just open the box and toss a container of diesel or gasoline if we saw any activity at all. It kills them immediately.

Arrow...I use one of those propane weed burners to deice and to burn tumbleweeds. One of those might work on a shallow nest also. But, you said that it has been very dry there and of course there is a fire potential. If you can use it, the big propane flame will certainly kill and disable the yellow jackets as fast as they can come out of the nest. I guess that the success would depend on the size of the second nest and the number of entrances.
