I agree with the previous posts. Also, if I have a dirty engine condition, I brush with kerosene and the hose off with water. I have had great results using a spray tire cleaner as mentioned above on my tractors, 4 wheel ATV's , etc. I find that the spray cleans hard to get at dirt and leaves a shinny/slick surface which makes it easier to keep clean. - <br>Bob

The JD mechanic might be right. At only $40.00/hr I'd not only let him do it, I'd buy him lunch as well.<br> The usual reason for a leaky waterpump is that the bearing has angular play which allows the fanshaft to operate at a slight angle and wears out the seal. A typical rebuild is as you describe: always both the seal and bearing are replaced and sometimes the fanshaft as well (because it can be scored). <br> Radiator fins do not contain water, and can be bent and straightened many times without affecting the vertical tubes within the radiator - which is where the water flows. If this seems a worry, a sheet of thin cardboard taped to the radiator will protect the fins completely. <br> Support your local mechanic. Roger

On another thread we we discussing side slope stability and the concensus was that turf tires were more stable than the lug type on side hills. I wonder if this would apply to the R4 as well?<br>

I own this exact tractor and loader. In 1991 I paid $9000.00 at an auction. It had 270 hours on it.It has ROPS on it and was made in 1986 according to the serial number. This tractor has performed flawlessly; one hydraulic cylinder on the loader popped a seal on a cold day and a retaining washer scored the ram.<br> I`ve seen this set-up advertised on a dealer lot 2 years ago for 13,000.00. Up till now in the utility tractor market John Deere had only four model 5210-5510, which carried almost any feature that you could want as standard equipment. However the competition had as many as 10 models in this area ranging from basic stripped down models to deluxe. John Deere is just expanding their line to compete. The advantage tractors are not between the 4000 and 5000, they are a 5000 with less features like:<br>-They don't come standard with draft sensing<br>-They have mechanically engaged wet disk brakes, instead of hydraulicaly<br>-Less Ergonomic operator station<br>-No options on transmission<br>-etc<br>However the base machine is still a very rugid utility tractor

My father was using my MF205 when the crankshaft let go (flew apart and the mechanic says the crank looks defective) This motor is a 2 cylinder diesel manufactured by Toyosha - model number S107. It's a 20 hp, 1070 cc. Anyone know what a new or used one would cost and where the best place to find one would be? The mechanic says that the crank took out a chunk of the block when it came apart and the block is not repairable (I find that hard to believe) It only had 510 hours on the meter.<br>any info would be greatly appreciated, Rich.

Art, it has been along time since I heard the phase tight ground but you are right. We refere to it as heavy soil (heavy pulling a culivator). I would like to slow the wheel rpm down but I believe the gearing is fixed. Any more suggestions. By the way you had more ideas than the dealers I talked to up here. I run the tines in slow and in reverse mode, wheel speed in low or 1st, and max depth (control bar set up at 7 inches)but the wheels still spin down and you have to push it to keep going. I sure think it is a great unit if I could only get it to work better. I have tilled the garden twice with it but still not happy with the job (deep and shallow depths). Thanks again

The only problem with mixing #1 is that you are going to reduce the horse power derived from the fuel. As stated, there are additives that reduces the cloud point without reducing the energy rating. I use DEE-ZOL+, there are others that I am not familiar with.

Concur with Dave and David re hydraulic feed. Safer and lets you move brush while chipping. I have a Vermeer 6 in PTO chipper standard with hydraulic feed I run with a JD 1050. Had to build an adapter to lower lift pins so I could raise it high enough to get up a trailer ramp. The weight is all the 1050 wants but it does it. 4

Have had a light weight rhino for about 20 years for drive maintenance and snow. Have used forbackfilling foundations and other odds and ends. Used first with a D-17 AC and since 83 on a JD 1050. Has done everything I wanted except autolevel. If you are going to do snow, you might want a as tall a blade as you can get.
