I'm looking at the JD 4200 and Kubota B21 or B2710. I'm not sure if I really need a backhoe or not. If I go with a backhoe, I'll probably forget about the B2710 because it's a 3 point hitch setup. From what I understand, the B21 or L35 is the way to go with a backhoe. I'm fortunate that the local rental yards around here rent all of the tractors I'm thinking of buying. I'm going to rent the B21 next week to start my fire cleanup (I'm not sure if you heard about the big fire we had go through here two weeks ago, it made national news. The house was saved, but I have 13 acres of property to clean up). I've rented an L35, which I really got spoiled on because I like it so much, but its beyond my budget and what I really need for most of my chores. I also rented the JD4100 and really liked it, but just a little under-powered for what I need. To answer your question, I'm leaning towards the Kubota, however, I think its like

Mike, I might be able to help, but I'm not sure which backhoe this is. Is it their small model that has the feet sliding down in a rectangular channel? Built sometime in the 1970's? What's wrong with the pressure relief valve? Usually all that is in there is a ball, a spring, and a couple of shims. Is a complete new valve out of the question? How about an external ressure relief? <br> Roger

Norm,<br>This would almost be impossible. You would need a minimum of a 5 inch pully on the generator not to have the belts stressed so badly that they would wear out quickly. You would then need a 33.5

Bo, I have read everything that everyone has written. I agree that experience is invaluable, however, Fram is not made by the same company you used to get it from. Consumers Reports article, which I saw, was when it was it's former self. Unfortunately, experience only is invaluable if nothing else changes. My 1970 Sears walk behind lawn mower was unbelevable, gave great service for over 15 years and 6 or seven blades (can't remember). The next two (yes I stopped after two) were complete junk. Unfortunately! So my experience with the original didn't mean squat with the new ones. I have stopped using petroleum oil in favor of the synthetics. I have also stopped changing oil, infavor or analysis. And I have stopped using Fram in favor of more expensive filters. I haven't saved any money, but I don't throw away oil at the alarming rate I was, and absolutely nothing is suffering. And the analysis alerts me to any problems. Most recently to dirty injectors on my Navistar 7.3L Diesel. Would have caused more headaches later in replacing plugged injectors and still would have cuased oil related problems, even if I was changing the oil every 2500 and throwing 12 quarts of oil away. My point is times change, and I lost intrest in changing the oil so often, and found what I consider to be a better way, without any problems. I don't even get under the truck to do filter changes, just to grease the joints. That wouldn't be possible if I had stayed with Fram. (yes that is what I swore by too) My NH is gonna get the same treatment very soon. I to don't take my machines to anyone else, unless

You can use any battery that will physically fit -and that has the same voltage rating. I think the 1220 is a 12 volt. So you can use any 12 volt on the market if you can get into the holder. For my Yanmar I built a battery box that fits a standard automotive 12 volt battery. If your battery mounts in front of the radiator you want to keep it as far away from the radiator as possible to avoid restricting air flow. A couple of inches is fine. More distance wouldn't hurt. <br> The difference in starting in cold weather is well worth the time it took to get the automotive battery mounted up right. Plus you can buy a really good quality automotive battery which doesn't seem to be the case with the garden tractor size batteries. I use the Optima

With chippers bigger is better and there is no such thing as too much HP on a chipper. Most of the small PTO driven chippers get by with less HP by using a less aggressive knife angle. This results in the chipper taking smaller bites of wood (less HP but slower feed rate) it is also used in the hand feed chippers because the less aggressive angles reduce the tendency to quickly pull material in the chipper and are safer for hand feeding. Hyd feed is nice because if the manufacturer did his job the feed rate of the material is designed to match the chipping capacity of the chipper and gives an even feed of material without bogging the driver power unit. I have worked on 1000 to 2000 HP whole tree chippers in chip mill applications. These machines have a disc weight of about 40,00 lbs and can reduce several 8-12

On many tractors it is possible to run both at the same time. It should tell you in the Operators Manual for your tractor. Another point--vacuum systems require a lot of power to keep good airflow. Self-powered Trac-Vacs and similar vac units use 5, 8, or 11 hp engines depending on the size of the deck. (Typical matchups are 5 hp vac for decks up to 48 - 54 inches, 8 hp vac for 60 - 72 inch decks, and 11 hp vac for 72 - 76 inch decks.) Obviously this is in addition to what the tractor requires to propel itself and run the deck. Unless your tractor is significantly overpowered for the size of deck you run, having an independent engine on the vac system may still offer you the most practical solution that really works well. Otherwise you may have to drive very slowly.

Good choice! I would go with a TC25D, because they,re the same tractor with the Tc29D having 300 more RPM's that,s how they get 4 more HP! The 33 is also the same tractor with a different crankshaft. Now I bought mine for 14700.00, but without hyd hookups,that was about 1100.00 more, but then I got the loader for 2750.00, you pay for the hyds either way, with the loader (3250.00) or if you have <br>them installed on the tractor. Also if you buy a NH Loader, make sure you get the heavy duty bucket,it's only 50.00 more. <br> I hope your not confused but I'm a mechanic and I decided not to pay an extra<br>500.00-1000.00 for 4HP(29D) when I can turn up the engine RPMs and get the same results, Although I haven't found anything that the 25 can't handle and won't be messing with anything until well after the 3yr warrenty expires!! the lock downs). I corrected the mounting and adjustment.
It wasn't exactly the driver's job to know about these things, but it is my job.
Yes, my hitch did activate unexpectedly, although I was operating the loader at
the time. Thanks to Steve's comments all that happened was that the pump and
engine laboured for a few seconds.
Despite Steve's comments, I fell into a bad habit. I tend to reposition the
hoe during maintenance while standing on the ground and operating the tractor hydrolics with one hand and the hoe with the other. Pull a wrong
lever and the stabilizer comes down on your foot. Think I'll stop doing this.
