Gulp !!! Boy did I take it hard if we're talking the same thing. are those units front mount with at seat rotate of deflector and quick mount? When I was getting prices I was qouted an off brand front mount and was getting prices around 3,400 and that didn't have JD quick mount.

Thanks to Len and Bill for their comments concerning backhoes on the JD 4100. Their comments brings up a couple of other questions. Since JD does not list a rear blade for the 4100 (only a front blade), does this also mean that the 4100 is too light for a rear blade? I really like the 4100 (dealer only 3 miles away), but it seems that it is somewhat limited in its three point usage. I notice that the New Holland TC21 has a factory backhoe and blade. Is the New Holland really a heavier built machine than the JD? Again thanks for comments.

I have a new 32 HP tractor, and wanted to do some earth moving with it. i am unsure of the capability of a tractor to grade land. Can anyone give me some real world experience with this? I want to level some large areas for a Horse Ring and a barn. It could require moving a lot of soil. My tractor is two wheel drive, and I planned to do it with a heavy box scrape. just looking for realistic expectation of a tractor this size. Tractor has front end loader also.<br>Also, (unrelated) but I have been using my bushhog to clear the land, and am afraid I am abusing it. It seems to cut through small pine 1 to even 3 inches in diameter. What is the capability of a bushhog? Should I worry about cutting too large a tree? Any advise?

I am moving to larger property, and bought a bigger tractor. I need to sell my kubota B7200 with Woods Dual front-end loader and Bushhog finish mower. Tractor has 700 hours, is in near perfect condition. Tires great. Kept indoors. Used to mow lawn, and move horse manure. Only have five acres so it is not abused.<br>The front end loader is less than a year old and the mower is less than 3 months old (I didn't know I was moving when I bought all this). <br>Selling 11,000 Firm.

JD Backhoe question: I am considering adding a backhoe to my JD 5000/ten series tractor at some point down the road. When the backhoe is attached, and you are sitting in the backhoe seat, is it possible to move the tractor? It seems to me that if you are trenching, you would need to hop in and out of the seats quite often in order to keep moving the tractor along if it can't be done from the backhoe operators station...thanks all.

the KUBOTA dealer say no problem. Where does all the extra weight come from on the NH compared to the KUBOTA. Please help with prices on both with turf tires

Got a 4600 w/460 loader, 48 backhoe, PowerReverser transmission. I love it. Not one problem in seventy plus hours. Clearing a woodlot, putting in a septic system, foundation for home and barn, stumping, dragging, digging, you name this tractor can do it. Power is UNBELIEVABLE. PowerReverser works great w/loader work. Kubota was nice, a little smaller and was worried about parts both pricing and availablity. Got the JD after a forty-eight hour wait (surprising what waiving 30k under the nose of dealer will do). My guess is that no matter what you get you are going to be very happy. These are both the compact flagships of their respective companies and they are both great machines. FYI the PowerReverser is fantastic, would not even consider changing to a HST even at the same price. Like the interactivity of pulling and pushing that POWER lever. Weird at first cause you don't use the clutch. Was told here on the board when I was looking not to be afraid to step up one size in tractor, boy am I glad I did. The other compacts look like toys next to this bad boy. Can you tell I'm happy?? I love the smell of the exhaust, wish it was pointing at me instead of away (maybe I've been huffing it too long?). I have a JD4100 and the 3 pt. has never once hissed at me. I think you may have a problem. I suspect 3 pt. hissing is a bad thing.

The Society of Automotive Engineers Standards J1995 for Gross HP and J1349 for Net HP ratings of gasoline and Diesel engines spell out the engine

Net HP is usable "flywheel" power with the engine installed in the vehicle. Gross Power is sometimes called "bare engine" power. It is often (but not always) the number used in advertising since it is the highest. The test results can be reported with the engine producing "intermittent" power or "continuous" power. Continuous rating is usually about 80% of intermittent. Continuous would be most meaningful for applications like generators. Most tractor applications only require intermittent power. PTO HP is what would be measured by a dynamometer attached to the PTO of the tractor so it reflects power train losses. PTO HP is approximately 85% of Net HP for many tractors. It will be slightly lower with hydrostatic drive due to the power consumed by the pump even with the tractor not moving.
As an example, at the rated engine speed of 3200 RPM, the JD 955 has 35.3 GROSS HP, 33 NET HP, and 27 PTO HP (hydrostatic).
Even though "power is power," when comparing specs of different tractors you have to be careful to use the same basis--gross, net, PTO, intermittent, continuous, etc. The problem is that sometimes the basis of the test is not provided in the information you have available.

Bruce,<br>I think you'll find the safety switch feature on all makes. This feature can easily be overridden. I was also under the impression that the 4100 wasn't strong enough for a back-hoe, until a few post'ers brought it to my attention that no-where is this actually stated or that JD would void your warrenty for doing so. Thus, it appears to be more of an assumption than a fact. I would like to know JD's

I just ordered a 4300 HST, MFWD, R4s, 430 loader, mid pto, & frops for $18,800 from a dealer who isn't known for great deals. So, a good price should be $19k or below without a hoe.
