The backhoe info I saw was on a Wallenstein backhoe by EMB Mfg. I've included their link. Their basic product sheet shows 3 backhoe models weighing in at 625, 900 and 1200 lbs - the smallest has to be the one for the small frame tractors. <br>

They show a generic 3-point hitch adapter in their pamphlet but a separate page they handed out my John Deere dealer shows an underslug mount that appears to go forward to the area of the front arm mount for the mower deck. It also looks like it hooks over the lower 3-point mount directly at the rear of the tractor frame. This was shown on a 4100 tractor, not 2210, but they claimed it was in the works so it can't hurt to contact them. <br>

They have a PTO pump kit as an option but I was told they plan to run the hoe off tractor hydraulics with a power beyond valve and that Deere is expected to release a PB valve option for for the 2210, although they haven't yet. I'm not sure what happens in the meantime, possibly an aftermarket PB valve setup?? You might want to ask about this if you get serious because PTO pump option is more $$'s.<br>

I asked about warranty and was told not to expect the factory to cover a tractor broken in half. He went on to say there should be no problem with routine repairs under the Deere warranty.<br>

The broken frame supposedly happened to several early BX Kubota's, prompting development of the BX22 model with reinforced frame for backhoe. I don't want to open "Pandora's Box" here so let me say the 2210 frame is pretty strong; it's made of 3/8" thick steel front-to-rear with a minimum cross section height of 4.5" at the front axle, increasing to 5.5" in front of the FEL mount, increasing again to 6.5" in the vicinity of the leading edge of the rear tires. <br>

Info on the tractor mentions that both front and rear axles are rated at 3,000 lbs so with a basic weight of 1,400 for tractor-only (wet) it's reasonable to think that it can handle a small hoe. Like the Kubota it wouldn't be a commercial contractor tool but should be great for occasional use. The relatively light total weight of any small tractor won't allow you to simply force the bucket into hard ground, and the wider the bucket, the more noticeable this becomes. On the ther hand, once you get started with any dig you're working the bucket against the stabilizers and that helps further anchor the tractor into the ground regardless of the actual tractor weight.

Yesterday, we had a pretty big fire in New Mexico. Actually there were three significant fires plus the even larger fire in SE Arizona.

I was involved through the Amateur Radio in some of the emergency communications activities. I had an aircraft radio in one hand, a ham radio in another, Channel 13 TV on in the background, and my wife trying to tell me what was going on all at the same time.

I saw one house in particular that had not cleared brush for some time. The fire burned right up the brush trail to the side of the house. The house was stucco and the fire did not take the house even though there was some major charring and soot on the exterior wall. The roof was a combination of metal sloped and flat tar/gravel.

The only house that burned was one that was under construction and it was unprotected wood framing.

This fire traveled up the Rio Grande river basin for over a mile and jumped from one side of the river to the other. We got rain earlier in the year and that caused a lot of small plants to grow, then it went dry and all the little plants died. The trees are dry and but the fire was carried by the low brushy plants. Occasionally it would break into the canopy, but not often.

Natural selection would have dictated that we let it burn and then the problem would not be upon us for another 20 years. But, people have built expensive houses in the area and now they put out every fire, but they do not clear the brush that fuels the fire in the first place. Perhaps now the local government will wake up and realize that THEY have been allowing this situation to get out of control.

I hope this shortens the load time of the previous thread for a while.

Doc, I use a .44 Mag rifle and I like it. Mine is the old Ruger Carbine that is more like a shotgun action than a rifle. I also like the Marlin Levers. I also have the Marlin in .357 Mag and it is also a good gun. I know Browning and other make good .44 guns.

I had a Big Bore top manufactured for an AR15. It shoots one of my favorite calibers...10mm. It uses M3A greasegun magazines. 10mm does real well in a rifle, although you will probably not find many around.

These are guns that I love to take with me for general purpose use, especially when I am carrying a pistol of the same caliber.

I mentioned something about this on another thread.

I let mine idle if I am going to be off the tractor for just a couple a minutes. That is because starting an engine causes a good deal of wear on the main bearings. It is hard to estimate for certain, but starting may cause wear that is equivalent to an hour of continuous running. A continuously running engine maintains oil pressure to the bearings and coolant flow to the cylinders.

Letting it run for extended periods adds costs such as depreciation in value by logging more hours and by the associate operating costs.

To let idle or cut off that is the question

I am not trying to say that a tractor engine is going to "wear out" significantly sooner because of speed. The formula that I quoted is correct, but even if wear is increased by 30% with a 10% increase in engine speed, it is all factored against the wear rate in the first place. If the wear rate is "next to nothing" to start with, 30% more is still "next to nothing".

It is much more likely that I might want a new shiny tractor and buy one for that reason than it is that I will wear mine out. I have a good bit of experience with engines and here is my short list of engine sins:
1. Lack of Maintenance and Cleaning;
2. Dirty oil and fuel;
3. Excessive Starting;
4. Lugging.

I believe that any of these and probably ten more things that I did not list can shorten the life of a properly designed and manufactured engine by several fold compared to wearing it out through normal usage. Notice #4; Lugging. More people will probably damage engines from running them too slowly under load than will wear them out due to high speed. I mention these four things, because they all have the effect of harming the lubricant film on the bearings that protect the engine from excessive wear.

I use 1500 to 2000 RPMs for most of the work I do. I set the brake and shift to neutral rather than shutting the tractor off when I get off the tractor for a quick hookup or intervention.

I got a call from the salesman I bought my tractor from. Seems that someone from North Carolina called him up & referenced my name, as well as the prices I paid for my tractor. William, my salesman, is looking for this gentleman's phone number - he's ready to deal on a B7800! Whomever called William for a quote had to have gotten the information from my earlier post in this thread since I have not been in contact with anyone else from North Carolina. marklugo, What models are you saying Iseki built for Deutz-Allis. I only know of models built by Toyosha/Hinomoto like the 5215 and 5220.

Scorpion is built by TYM, (Tong Yang Moolsen), in South Korea. It is marketed in the USA by Decker & Co. It used to be sold as Millenium by a different company. There are distributors for the TYM brand in the USA as well. They manufacture some Same and Nibbi branded tractors in other countries. They have joint ventures with Same and Case IH. And they build some models for Mahindra. Early models were based on Iseki. Current models use John Deere and Kubota engines.

Hi. I've considered one of the quick-hitch systems but I have a finishing mower with the swinging top link (to allow the mower to follow uneven terrain). Is there a way to use one of the quick hitch systems with this swinging link? Thanks for any advice.

Maybe you should just upgrade to one of the bigger John Deere Garden Tractors that has a differential lock and two wheel drive. But it may be that with the grades an such you may slip in the winter.

When you get 4wd the machines work much better. I would recommend that you get Turf tires for your application.

Hey guys,

I am looking for a 3 point Cat "O" landscape rake for my Ariens cat "O" 3 point lift tractor. I ordered a nice Cat "O" 42 inch box blade from KingKutter but they don't make a 3 point "O"landscape rake. Anybody know of a manufacture who makes a 40 to 48 inch cat "O" lanscape rake without me having to make one myself???????

Doc, although not absolutely required, it is VERY prudent measure to take by using a good diesel fuel additive. A good diesel fuel additive should do the following:

1. improve cetane rating (minimum should be 40 but higher is better)cetane rating is not like octane rating. It effects the delay of ignition of the fuel upon compression the less delay the better.

2. add detergents to aid cleaning the fuel system

3. stabilize the fuel (diesel is far more stabil than gas but cannot be stored for extended periods without deteriorating. A tractor or farm fuel source may sit for long periods.

4. enhance the lubricity of the fuel to ensure lubrication of injectors and pumps.

5. rust and corrosion protection from water or other contaminants that may get into fuel.

6. lowers gel/cloud point or winterizes fuel

7. provides de-ice protection in that it soluablizes water deposits mixed in with fuel with the fuel itself; allowing the water to pass through the system (still not good for it) with as little damage/problems as possible.

I have been using John Deere Summer Formula diesel fuel additive mixed with Howes diesel treat. I am considering buying a 5 gallon pale of diesel fuel additive from Amalgamated Inc. Some of the guy over on TDR have been using it and gave good reviews. It is cheaper than what you can buy in Walmart at $95 delivered. If you live near Ft. Wayne IN. You can pick it up for $40 a pale. S & H is expensive. Stanadyne also make a good fuel additive. I have used Power Service in my truck.

Stabil may stabilize the diesel fuel but that is all it will do. I think it was more designed for gas use but works in both. Hope this was not TMI. Cheers!

It certainly is subjective but I would sure take the Hydro any day for $500. If you are financeing at all on the 36 month 0 interest plan the payment difference on $500 would be very nominal.
