This is certainly a good strand. Initially I thought I could add something but after reading TomG and AC5Zo's input I believe they really hit the nail on the head in the first two posts. Mark on My duramax at 75 mph I am turning a little over 2k rpm. I certainly don't think any of us on any of theese engines with normal care and maintenance have much to worry about as far as longevity. I have done the math on the hours and mine should easily out live me as well. I do think however if you are to compare any CUT tractor engine to any truck engine this entire strands validty is multiplied. That is too say overall mass, Displacement and stroke must be compared. I would not think the CUT engines would last nearly as long under the same conditions as Chiefs Cummings, nor would the Cummings hold up against Murfs F450. But then your tractor should still easily out live the both of us so it is splitting hairs a bit. I do think it is easy to get a little tied up in the stat zone when first time buyers are shoppng for a tractor Although I personally, even with a pretty strong mechanical background find the weight Vs. Horsepower/Torque debate a more aloof comparison with out experience in the saddle. In reference to the manufactures tweaking specs we could also add Marketing to the mix. I have the JD 2210. 23 hp and yet it is so light that it is hard in most situations to benefit from it as the tractor simply does not seem to weigh enough to utilize the full power band and the transaxle is not cast iron but aluminum alloy.

MarkH: Yep bush living. Ironic thing is that yesterday I took my rolls of safety wire and duct tape over to install outside speakers for a friend's stereo. Used both of them too. They're less bushy over there. No stereos or TV here. Maybe I'm not bushy enough but I haven't heard of visqueen. What ever it is I have no doubt that I'd find a use for it.

I think I need a front blower for the paved drive in the pix. Since I am a newbie I thought if I dragged a back blade on the paved drive in the pix I would rip up the edges of my finished lawn in the process. In general I have been happy with the blower on the garden tractor, I just don't like the fact that I cannot handle depths above 4" in one pass, and I have problems with wet snow. I used to use the front blade on my Garden Tractor on a smaller piece of flat property but it loses traction on the grades on my current drive. The dealers never seem to push the blower but just say use the loader and the blade, what do you guys think?<br>

I also want a machine with a flat operators deck, when I rented a Kubota B21 last year it made going backwards a breeze compared to using a machine with a big hump in the middle like my Garden Tractor.<br>

Would a B7500 handle going across the slope of my picture number 3? My local Kubota dealer said that I would be able to take the B7500 anywhere the Garden tractor could go! True or False?

Can't help if 655's have such a filter but slow deterioration of performance over a day sure sounds like a filter. If the loader works normally and a relief valve isn't opening a 3ph filter would be a good bet. Inexpensive pressure gauges and fittings can be purchased but if the loader works, the pump is developing pressure. If the 3ph doesn't lift then there's likely no pressure to check. Whether the 3ph is getting flow is another question and pressure/flow meters are available.

There are other reasons for 3ph failure but I think most of them usually happen pretty abruptly. If the tractor has a manifold block and a diverter valve, the valve could be placed in the 'remote' position and the 3ph tried. On most tractors, 'Remote' takes the entire loader system out of the system and powers only the 3ph. On some position control valves, the spool ends of the lift valve spool and poppet valve can be seen with minor disassembly. There are adjustment procedure for the gaps between the spool ends and a lever for many 3ph's. The important ones here are that there should be a gap for the poppet valve when the 3ph is in lift mode and the lift spool should be depressed. I suppose that a drifting adjustment could produce slow deterioration over a day but that's a stretch.

Checking most anything else on a 3ph takes tear down and testing. Hope there's a filter and that's the problem.

Fog horn, I would ask him why. Ask him about lead on the front axle and if it would not create stress on the tires and the worst part the drivetrain. Normally even on a well balanced drivetrain you can feel the wind-up with-in a short distance. After you stop and try and disengage the lever it will be difficult. I recommend all you can without it engaged, but if you feel you ae going to need it for what you are doing by all means leave it in.

My bar also almost always gets involved in implement swapping. Probably like abe's, it is a heavy bar rather than one with a squared end with a chisel point and a smaller round handle. The extra weight of this type bar also makes them pretty good for breaking up rocks in the bottom of post holes. I think mine is tempered steel. At least the points have lasted for 25 years. One of these will make implement swapping much easier, and they have a bunch of other uses as well.

For anybody who doesn't swap implements frequently and doesn't have a pry-bar, they might get a bar first and give it a try before investing in quick-hitch systems. One might chop the aggravation down to an acceptable level. If not a boar is always going to be used for something. You just sink the bar in the ground near an implement and you can move it around a surprising distance.

I also try to store my implements so I don't have to back up to them in tight turns. I think tight turns may be the origin of most of my swaps that start out wrong and just keep going that way.

TC25 with 180 hrs. the rear brakes are making a loud rubbing/squeaking noise. This just started recently, and the front brakes seem ok.

I have been very busy and havn't had time to get back until now. The 2210 was returned Monday mornining all fixed. The mechanic said he could find nothing loose only that the fan was closer than the 1/4" spec. to the deck acuating shaft. It appears that the whole problem was factory improper assembly.

I get a little grease by the pivots, but I don't think it is excessive. It does not get on the hood of the tractor.

I asked my dealer about this today and he said in no uncertain terms that the use of a back hoe on the 2210 would void the warranty. I would suggest you call or e-mail JD direct for verification.

I am using Shell Rotella synthetic and a Kubota filter for the engine on my BX.

I have Chevron All Weather synthetic in the hydraulic system and a Kubota filter there too.

There are web sites where you can order Kubota parts and have them shipped to your house.

There is a terminology issue and kind of a convention is used here. 3ph is three-point hitch and there are others that are used to shorten up comments. Most of my comments are already too long. The terminology is sort of absorbed as you go along and is just part of a learning curve.

Rip-rap is a road building material rather than a tractor term. It is sizable chunks of rock usually from blasting that is foundation material for many roadbeds. I thought the turn-around may transverse a steep slope and more stability on the outside may be needed. Use of rip-rap would provide that as well fill to reduce the grade if needed, but from the road description that doesn't now seem likely. Never the less, roads are generally more durable if the beds are cut below grade and lager aggregates are laid down the finishing material. From the description I think that the roads go more down rather than across the slope so if there's not an erosion problem now then many possible problems aren't relevant unless the turnaround has a steeper grade.

I mentioned a hydraulic top-link rather than scarifiers. A box scraper's action is determined by the blade angle, which is adjusted by the top-link. Shortening the link produces a more aggressive cut. Lengthening it pulls the blade off the surface so it doesn't cut and a full box can be dragged to where it is dumped. Lengthening it even more allows material to come under the blade, which spreads material as the tractor is driven forward.

Good work with a box scraper requires very frequent top-link adjustment. Without a hydraulic top-link a person has to stop and get off the tractor to make them. With a hydraulic link, you can drive along a high spot and cut, when the box is full the link can be changed to drag the material to a low spot and then changed again to spread it--all without stopping. One will turn a day's fussing into a couple hours of relative happiness.

It has to be in the hand pump. If everything else is working it is all that it can be as otherwise nothing else would work right or they would quit when the steering did. The steering cylinder would work the same all the time or most nearly so there is only one place to go for the most part. To bad it doesn't do it all the time, makes a nicer warrantee for Kubota.

You may just have a good nose! But you also may be having the oil heat up to much, or you may have a small leak in the right place. How many hours? What range are you doing your loader work in? What are you doing with the loader?
