I have been shooting trap for about 30 years. I started out with a 1100 Remington. It is a fine gun. I presently shoot my Browning BT99 or my Browning Citori Ultra Trap over and under. I also have a Winchester 101 Pigeon Grade Trap over and under.

Most CUT owners don't really need a "swinging" drawbar. A fixed drawbar point is fine for most things. Swinging drawbars are good when you have a heavy draft load like a drawbar pulled plow. When you turn the tractor, the pivot point for the drawbar is between the rear wheels.

When I was growing up, implements that were pulled by the drawbar were more common. But, for a CUT I would stick with 3PH implements.

For items like feed grinders and other implements drawn behind the tractor that use a PTO shaft, you don't really want to use the "swinging" feature anyway. Swinging would allow the alignment of the PTO shaft to be way off.

Doing much better thanks, but now I live under a VERY strict set of rules which includes my diet, exercise (limited, but increasing gradually) and work. I am 'rationed' in everything, computer time included, and was completely barred from the office (by my wife & doctor), I get daily reports from my EXCELLENT staff.

Hopefully I'll be out of 'retirement', at least on a part-time basis later this summer.

I am new to the "tractor world", but excited about getting in it. I'm a city guy who just bought 10 acres. My new neighbor said I should look for a minimum of 30hp. Does that sound reasonable? I'm in the process of purchasing a compact tractor to maintain this acreage (primarily mowing wild grass and cleaning up dead trees,etc). I have a Deere lawn tractor and am very pleased with it,but unless I'm missing something, I don't see where Deere has anything close in price/specs ratio to the B7800. Specifically, having 30 hp,hydrostatic tran, and wet brakes. It look's like I can get a B7800 w/loader for $15,400 plus $850 for a 60' rear mowing deck (bush hog). Is this a good price? Is a rear deck the way to go or should I consider a mid deck? And finally, the acreage is not level, so are there weights,ballasts, etc. that I should get to give me the safest "platform" to operate on? Thanks for your advice.

The McLeod rake/fire tool is the name of the tool that I always see the wildfire fighters using around here.

I will order one of those pumps. They are on Backorder now. Based on the time (2 minutes)that Tom referred to before and the flow rate of the pump, it might make sense with a 50-100 gallon tank on the tractor 3PH. I know that it is not a lot of water, but you can carry it where you need it and it sure would beat those backpack units from the same wildfire equipment website.

I have a 600' or so bank where our driveway was cut into the side of a hill, not sure of the angle/% grade, but I know it took a lot of body english when cutting with my 3813 Honda rider mower. I tried out my new B7800 with 72" MMM on the same slope, and it was somewhat more stable. Given the weight of the MMM deck, the CG or your tractor is likely slightly lower than your mower - catch is your odds are much beter to walk away from a lawnmower rollover.
I agree that mowing up and down is the way to go where possible, however, in my case I have a fence at the top of the hill that prevents mowing in this manner.

Reinstalled the 72" MMM on my tractor for the first time last night. Took 10 minutes tops, believe I could do it in 5 or so next time.
It took me at least 15 - 20 minutes to get it off on my first try, but I believe I could remove it in around 5 now that I've done it once.

I have an old Kubota B7100 Hst tractor. It came with a 46" mower that is attached under the tractor. It was removed inorder to use the PTO, front blade etc. I have never used it. It's a little dirty but I'm sure it would clean up nicely. It's available for purchase if anyone is interested.

We have an old Long 360 with the front end loader. Problem is the bucket / controls donot seem to want to work very well. The bucket goes up very slowly, the controls have to be turned, pulled, pushed "JUST" right for this to happen. Any ideas how to fix this and get the power needed to use the bucket to move dirt etc?

I live in California and purchase a B2910 from North Carolina last October. Paid $17,500 including shipping for a B2910 with loader, Loader teeth,R4 tires, and a First Choice Heaviest 5' box scraper. They saved me over $3,000 for what my local dealer wanted. Kubota is good quality and I have had no problems with it to date. I perform all my own maintenance anyway, so I do not expect to be taking it to the local dealer.

Yep, cavitation seems to be the explanation for many things. I still wonder though if it might be less work for the motor to work against cutoff pressure than moving high a volume of water through hose at lower pressure. Never the less, when the hose is clamped the pump is sure going to cavitate.

The safety switch on our Wajax pumps works off air pressure. High rpm trips a switch, and I know that loss of prime definitely trips it. I don't know if leaving a hose clamped for a long while would eventually trigger the switch, but our instructor did say not to leave them clamped for long. Our target for clamping, adding or removing a hose section and releasing is 15 seconds. If we're doing it right the pump doesn't get much time to do anything other than pump.
