Mark, thankfully a few sore muscles was as bad as it got.

I think it has been mentioned a few times before, but it bears mentioning again, the differentials in tractors are such that one wheel stopping or changing speed can cause an adverse reaction in the others. In an extreme case it can cause one wheel to counter-rotate, or spin backwards.

The best, safest solution in this case, operating on a slope like you did, is to engage the diff. lock and stick both wheels together mechanically.

I do not know your tractor, but I wouldn't think it should go into the red at all. In all machinery I have had/used the red zone is a no no.
They might normally hit the red zone for a short time immediately after shutting them off, but should not be in there while operating.

BBLG's? Why yes I do have some. Marlins: 357 Magnum, 35 Remington, 356 Winchester, 375 Winchester, Several 444's in different rifling styles, a 44 Magnum and a 45-70. And maybe one or two that I forgot.

Do Ruger #1's count? It has a lever you know. That is a "do it all" gun in 416 Rigby. Another pretty cool big bore but not a lever gun: A Remington 7600 pump in 35 Whelen.

Mark, you are the first person in about 15 years that I have heard mention a Colt Delta Elite. I have 2 Colt Delta Elite First Editions still new in the display box unfired that I bought at the Rod and Gun Club when I was stationed in Germany 15 or so years ago. Nice looking guns but did not do much as far as collector's value. For that matter, not many guns are good for collector's value.

Tom, the best way to ground the generator is to run a ground back to the same single point ground for the electrical service. The transfer switch neutral should be connected there as well. If the panel is the primary panel, then the Neutral and Grounds will be bonded together in that panel. If the panel for the generator is not the main electrical panel, the ground and neutral are held separate and only connected together at the main panel. What I use for this is a 4 wire interconnect cord that has the ground. Some generators may not be set up for the four wire connection, but it is easy to adapt in a J box near the generator.

Doing otherwise may cause a phenominon called a ground loop. This is where there is current flowing through the ground wiring which results in a voltage potential. This is OK as long as all grounds are tied to a single point. If you have multiple grounds, currents can flow between the ground points and foul up electronics and other things.

It sounds like most of us agree that PTO generators may have a place, but not for routine backup power at your house. I have used one, but I don't own one.

I must remember to temper my comments with the facts of where I live and the character of my land.

Many folks could get by with a 2wd CUT if it was heavy enough. I could not. Without 4wd, carefully selected tires and lots of ballast I have trouble running any tractor on my sandy, steep lot.

The other day I was driving my JD 4100 down a slope right next to the house in 2wd in a low gear using engine compression to control the speed.

I was feeling pretty smug because I felt I had finally found the right combination of rubber and ballast that would let me operate in 2wd about half the time instead of 4wd all the time.

Wouldn't you know it? Just when you think you got all your poop in one sock the tractor bites you.

Halfway down the slope the right rear tire rolled up on a smooth round rock about the size of a grapefruit. The problem was that it didn't roll over the rock instead it started pushing it ahead of the tire like a big ball bearing.

The other three tires, having no real mechanical connection to the engine, began to free-wheel and the tractor took off down the slope.

About eight feet later the tire finally got over the rock, which lifted the rear end up and slammed it back down, and re-engaged the drivetrain/engine compression which slammed me forward in the seat.

I came within inches of crunching the whole thing into the house and my neck and back hurt for two days.

I guess I am back to using 4wd for the majority of my operations, and that is why I tell my better third (calculated by weight)that she should just leave the 4wd engaged all the time.

Chief, I know you are relativly new to this industry but look out for glass houses. All of the Kubota products built are good and have some of the highest of resale prices in the industry. I wonder as to one tractor being the best for you. What are you going to do with the 100 acres that is related to the lawn where you live.

Anything 9 feet high needs some serious engineering behind it, not just dirt.

Search the web by "retaining wall systems" there are several around, Versa-Lok, Keystone and of course the one that started it all RisiStone are ones I have used before. Of course I am partial to RisiStone but that's because a) I helped develop it, and b) Angelo Risi is a good friend and neighbour. No prejuidice there folks, just bare unadulterated promotion, LOL, seriously, it is VERY easy to work with.

The smoke control adjustment is a bit mysterious in my Ford manual. The factory doesn't seem to want ordinary techs fiddling, so they say little about it. I've always thought of it as a fine-tune adjustment for fuel metering. <br>

The adjustment seems to be part of the governor rather than the pump. The governors for some pumps are combined with the pump housing, so an adjustment could be located on the pump.<br>

The comment did trigger a thought. I've been assuming the pump to be a jerk-pump type. Some older tractors had other type systems such as common-rail and accumulator types. The thinking about this problem might change a lot if it had an older type system, especially an accumulator type.<br>

I have 2 acres and I bought a TC33D with supersteer last year. It the perfect size because I can easily mow in tight spaces and still have plenty of power for lifting heavy things with front end loader. I had a Ford 1120 (18hp) before and it just does not have the power for tasks that came up periodically.
I would definitely go for the TC33D, supersteer is well worth the extra money, as you can turn on a dime given the size of the tractor.

not sure what the rake is worth, but last may, i got a 3010HST w/5' mower, r4's, 5' box blade, FEL and a trailer for 16650 brand new.....15k seems a bit much for a 140 hr machine....would prob buy new if I couldnt get it down to at least 13k!

I will do a link to a picture on a new thread when I get it mounted. It is about the same height as a standard ROPS but wider, it extends out as wide as the outside of my rear tires. It also has 2 bars that go down and connect onto the front of my loader frame, but I don't think I will put those on. I guess with those on all you could damage if you roll over is the exhaust pipe.

I also have a B7800 and mine has the locking device to hold the MMM up and keep it up. It becomes completely independant of the rear pto. Yours should have this locking device also.

It's alot easieser to back up a loaded truck than trying to back up a loaded dump trailer with an empty truck in a bad job site or soft soil and one ton 4x4 is minimum
