This link should give you an idea of ballpark prices the states pays and what a reasonably good price for you would be. It at least gets you in the ballpark as well as gives you a look at the salesman's cards.

I have driven caterpillars before and I agree with comments that the weight is evenly distributed on the track and that they have lower pressure in pounds per square foot of track area. The real traction comes from the cleats that are high pressure and force their way into the soil. Having some experience in this area I also agree with Murf about cat operation. But there are also fundamental differences between track and wheel tractors and they way they respond.

As far as qualifications are concerned, My family has farmed in Central Missouri as far back as the records go. Other than the experience that I gained from growing up there, I don't feel that the history qualifies me to analyze sliding tractors but being an engineer for several decades probably does. I have done a lot of interesting things over the years including designing and fielding oil drilling equipment and off-road racing. I learned a lot about weight balance and traction running in the Baja 500, Baja 1000, and a variety of other venues.

I will reserve any specifics about the weight balance of my tractor until I measure it. On my CUT the engine is entirely behind the front axle and there is a considerable amount of cast iron right around the rear axle. My experienced eye tells me that the balance point is probably going to be very close to the front of the operator platform. (That would put most of the weight on the rear axle) Another data point about having more weight on the rear axle is the very low air pressure run in the small front tires. I have been wrong before and I may be wrong again. But, it does not make sense to me that a tractor would be designed with 55% of the weight on the very small front tires. But, there are a variety of things to consider including the attachment of implements to the 3PH and front end loaders.

My tractor has calcium ballast like many others with FELs, but my educated guess is that the calcium pretty much balances the forward shift in CG that a FEL would cause. I will make some measurements and report back. This is not an easy measurement since I do not have a platform scale, but I will get it done some time this summer. It is also simply an academic exercise since my tractor is not likely to be configured exactly the same as most others.

Your only hope of getting some control in a runaway slide is to get the front wheels rolling so that you can steer them. The slide could very well be over and you may never get the chance to intercede in one of these. I don't know of anyone with a lot of experience with uncontrolled slides on tractors. I imagine the life expectancy for that job is not long. When a slide starts, you are just going to have to let instinct and some training take control and hope for the best outcome.

Instincts are what they are, and you can't do much about them, but you can train for slides and skids. I have done this in the Baja vehicles. We use the front end steering and independent rear wheel steering brakes to bring the vehicles under control. I have intentionally put the vehicles into skids at speeds up to 60 MPH to learn how to recover. You do this on a dry lake bed where the ground is flat and sandy and there is little chance to turn the vehicle over. But, sometimes they roll over anyway.

I don't know how you would ever practice this safely with a tractor, but the actions and results from the training are the same. The training will kick in before you have time to analyze and think about what is happening. Basically training boils down to experiencing the event and implementing a reasonable action to bring things under control and surviving the whole ordeal.

I prefer the mid mount. Getting older takes a toll on the neck looking back at the mower. The three points are easier to install and don't hinder the ground clearance as much but I still prefer for trimming to have the deck below or out front.

We use oven cleaner to clean the floor, it lifts the oil right out of the concrete, sawdust on top absorbs the whole mess so it can be thrown in the trash. No water required at all.

If it is resonance, which is entirely possibe, then I would do something about it, fast. It may take a while to show, but if the 'resonance' (read 'motion') is allowed to continue it is only a matter of time before something gives up, probably a line since they are the lightest material, due to metal fatigue caused by the motion. If a line lets go it will be neither fun nor convenient.

I would start with some heavy rubber cut in strips, wind it around the lines until they are large enough around to contact something else which will brace them, then zip tie them together. If this works tell the factory, a small rubber isolation mount will be a cheaper fix than replacing line sets under warranty, or unhappy customers out of warranty.

I lost the brochures, but I think by the time you ante up for decent horsepower and pitch in a few implements they are comparably priced with a new compact tractor. IE: $12 to $15 K

Doc, a little off topic, but what else is new.

A few years back I was part of a volunteer group building deer feeders for a joint government/private sector (Federation of Anglers & Hunters mostly)that was building, placing and filling 'deer feeders'. They were basically 5' high, 4' wide bird feeders that were filled with corn donated from seed companies and farmers (me included).

It seems they did some research in conjunction with a local university and discovered that the deer did not like ICY frozen corn compared to DRY frozen corn. The feeders were built with 1" rough cut lumber (slabs donated by a local sawmill) and filled by snowmobile-drawn slieghs. The deer got so tame that when they heard the snowmobile they would come running for dinner, unfortunately, they forgot the sound of an engine before hunt season, oh well.

The point is, if you built a big feeder and put in a place they would get to before anything else, then your feathered friends might get a meal too. Besides, old corn is cheaper than birdseed.

I have had my 2210 for about five-weeks. I chose the turf tires, and the 62” MMM. I also, had the dealer include a Frontier 48” box blade. Everything works great. Paid $11,760 (including tax).

Can't help with the pipe pin. It does remind me that I gave myself a bad time when I pulled the head on my old Honda 750. There were a number of very small o-rings between the head and cylinders that sealed oil passages. They didn't stay in place very well when remounting the head and I ended up pulling the engine several times. The manual pictured them and it still didn't do me much good.<br>

Fluxing would detect minute cracks but not distortions. Fluxing would be a good idea but checking for distortions and alignments also would be good. I've heard that cranks can become eccentric and bearing seats become out of alignment. There are probably similar issues for the camshaft.<br>

I wonder if there's a theory on what cause the lock up. I'm thinking the water in the intake that produced a hydro lock might be an explanation. Cold water on the block might be another but that doesn't seem too likely. I don't have any definite ideas if the particular type lockup would suggest some things to pay particular attention to when checking over the engine but it might bear some thought. For example, if cold pond water on the block could be an explanation for the lock up then cracks in the block would seem a possibility. I think of flux testing as mostly for cranks and I can't think of a test for a block other than x-ray off-hand. I'll probably learn something here.

Chances are that an after-market loader and MMM aren't compatible and when one is one the other can't be mounted. Even some factory loaders and MMM's aren't compatible.
Usually the problem is that part of the loader frame is located where the MMM needs to go, so it's not a matter of removing just part of the loader assembly.

If the loader comes off the hydraulics have to be disconnected. On some setups it's simply a matter of disconnecting quick connects to the loader cylinders and the valve assembly can remain on the tractor. Often the valve assembly is removed as well.

Even if a loader and MMM are compatible, some people remove at least the loader bucket when mowing because the loader bucket gets in the way and also adds weight on the front tires. Front tires can tear the turf in tight turns.

Just noticed that you are looking at the 60" deck, I was too, but my dealer talked me into the 72". Said that with the mower being significantly wider than the tractor, it's easier to mow around flower beds, fences etc. Don't have to wory about running over stuff with the tractor. Made sense to me although I have not mowed with my tractor yet. My dealer seemed to be a real straight shooter, he advised me to o with the 72" deck even though he had the 60" mower in stock & had to order the 72". I'll post my impressions after I mow for the first time, probably this weekend if it will ever stop raining!

I'm considering buying this tractor and was wondering about general information. ie.
1.) Should I use hydraulic/tranmission fluid in the transmission or is it a separate section. (it looks like hydraulic fluid when I check).
2.) Is shell rotella 30W good for a summer oil??
3.) Any particular grease for the joints?
4.) Any adjustments for the hydraulic pump to boost it a bit??
5.)How hard are the injection pumps/injectors/glow plugs to locate (buy) and replace??
This may not be my last post.
