It's sort of a tough call. I think a 12% slope is almost 7-degrees, which is generally feasible to work with most tractors. It does depend on what's being done, soil conditions and the particular tractor though. A tractor having low CG, 4wd and ag tires would be an advantage.<br>

If I were doing it and had confidence the tractor would be stable, I'd do it with my box scraper. My box is a foot wider than the rear tire tracks. I'd lower the uphill side of the box as much as I could with the side-leveler and then lower the hitch until the box end contacts the ground, and then a bit more. <br>

I'd probably start at the top and work down. Some soil that the box cuts will come out on the downhill side of the box where the cutter is off the ground but some soil will remain in the box and can be dumped passed the end of the terrace. If you start at the bottom then soil from higher terraces will be dumped on the ones that are finished. I'd keep the depth of cut just deep enough so the box didn't fill up halfway across the terrace and carefully consider where the box is dumped. You probably don't want to end up driving over a steep pile of loose soil when on a side hill. If tractor stability is at all in question, you do have to be aware that if working top-down you'd end up driving over loose soil as you go down, which would increase chances of loosing traction and sliding. Using a box in like places side-thrust on it that would tend to push the rear wheels down hill.<br>

It would take a number of passes before a level terrace would be cut. The side-leveler wouldn't have to be readjusted for each pass because the tractor will become more and more level as long as the uphill wheel rides in the cut the box is making. Using a rear blade would work about the same but it would dump all soil cut on the downhill side as the cut is made unless it's a blade that had end-plates. Angling the downhill side foreward would help keep soil on the blade. If I didn't have confidence working on the side-hill, the terraces could be dug going straight up and down with a loader and toothbar or possibly a box scraper.<br>

I used a square-bottomed U-bolt. I replaced the 1/8" clamp that came with it with a piece of flat 3/16" stock that is a little longer than the width of the U-bolt. On the extra length, I drilled a hole and mounted the light through that hole.

Be sure to lube the pivot of the hydro petal. They all to often get a little sticky. Kubota's filters are made by Fleetgaurd. They would be the closest to factory originals to give you the performance that Kubota was looking for with there tractors at this time.

I don't know the tractor. I haven't had that problem with my riding mower. I have had it with my walk-behind snow-blower.

The TX on my blower is a surprisingly primitive thing that has no gears or hydraulic motor. It's just a flywheel with a rubber friction wheel mounted perpendicular to the flywheel. The shifter just slides the rubber wheel across one side of the flywheel. When the friction wheel is near the outside of the flywheel it is driven faster, which is high gear. When it's in the center there is no drive and that's neutral. Reverse is just moving the friction wheel across the centre to the other side of the flywheel. Clutch is simply lifting the friction wheel off the flywheel. Although there are gear positions on the shifter, it's really a continuously variable TX. Dumb but it works I guess.

If the tractor has a TX something like my blower, a linkage that's adjusted too short will shift the gear positions so reverse on the shifter becomes neutral and reverse disappears.

The solution is likely as MarkH says. Another explanation that would produce the same result is if the curl pressure was relieved before the lift. Unless the bucket is flat, relieving the lift may reload the curl circuit. I usually put the lift in float and then relieve the curl pressure.

When I was growing up hay from small fields in the mountains used to be stacked. For that matter grain was shocked. A baler seems a pretty expensive idea for 9-acres. Making a stacker might be an interesting project. Some old balers had small gas pony engines to operate the kicker, which reduced the tractor HP requirements.

I suppose bales now tend to go from a baler right into a wagon, but they don't have to. I remember walking behind my Uncle's old round baler and having to tie bales as they came off. A few years later the square balers just dropped bales in the field. I remember my helping one cousin and his brothers pick up bales by flinging them on top of a low-boy wagon. Getting the last tier of bales on the wagon didn't do anything for brotherly love due to his preference for big bales. That wagon would have been pretty heavy for the tractor and I don't know if the wagon had brakes. The land was pretty flat though.

I don't know why I haven't heard of new wagons with brakes. You'd think tractor hydraulics could run something. Horse drawn wagons tended to have mechanical brakes (to save the horses). It's the same issue with tractors. It takes a lot of effort to keep a load from pushing the puller down a hill, and the puller (horse or tractor) is much better at pulling than at stopping. Sort of like the 6 million-dollar man mentioned. How does he do it unless a foot is nailed to the ground?

My engine running thing was just some a mini-safety reminder and not intended to suggest that anybody is actually riding in a bucket. Position control 3ph's that leak down will cycle up and down when the engine is running but the engine shouldn't make any difference to loader leak-down.

Interesting comment about the loader leak-down stopping at 6" off the ground. When loader arms go below horizontal the bucket comes back toward the tractor. Maybe that reduces the pressure enough to stop further leak-down. Cylinders with cushioned stops might be another explanation but I doubt they'd be used for lift cylinders. A common application for them is backhoe swing cylinders.

Spreading the lower link arms and measuring the distance between them might be a check if there's doubt a 26" would fit.

I haven't thought it through but I think that you'd want to snug up the 3ph chains so there wouldn't be much play for heavy loads to jolt the chain mounts at the cases.

I have a Yanmar 155D that I would like to get rid of - I need a heavier tractor. It has a FEL, Howard J Rototiller and a small box. I have no idea how many hours on it as the ???? never worked (can't think of the name). I would guess over 1000 hours. There is a growl in the drive chain someplace and the FEL goes up and down slowly. The PTO and Cat 1 hitch work OK. I line in San Jose CA.

My King Kutter brush hog was the same way.
The lift pins were to high when I bought the mower and I couldn't lift it high enough.
I just drilled new holes for the lift pins and lowered them !

A guy up the highway is selling a '51 Case Model S for 3,200$CDN. I guess that might make a good project for somebody. It is located about 3 hours drive west of Ottawa, Canada. Far as I know the tractor works just fine as it stands.
