Perfect job for a drag scraper. I converted my box scraper to a drag scraper and would be glad to furnish pics and specs. It was way cheaper than buying a whole new implement.

Tires: I have had very good service out of turf or turf like tires in my high desert environment. I assume the ground in AZ is similar to Northern Nevada.

For sure and certain, you don't want R-1's.

We once tried my tiller behind my brothers TO20 Ferg.it didn't work at all.I believe if the tiller rotated backward it would work.

I have a 1990 B6200 4wd with ag tires and would like to purchase a rear tiller. I think 42" is probably the best size, and I prefer slip clutch instaed of shear pin. Can anyone recommend a good aftermarket tiller? I heard Woods and Land Pride make nice units, but I have no experience. If anyone has a good used one for sale, I'd be willing to listen.

No comparison at all. The 4200 is way more tractor than a BX. $21k is a little high for a used 4200 though unless it has real low hours. Like less than 250 hours. If a BX can be gotten new with a backhoe and loader for $16k, and it suits your needs then the Kub is probably the way to go. The 4200 new with loader and backhoe went for about $23k-24k.

bobobro, I bought the B7500 today. I pick it up on thursday. I got the B7500 with FEL, brush guard, R4's, and foldable ROPS for $12,150. Hope you can deal with your dealer.

What model tractor is it? The brakes on most of this era JD CUT had brakes that were like normal dry drum brakes. The drum is turned toward the cover therefore if there is a leak in the cover or condensation the whole assembly rusts over time. The rust will jam the brakes out and therefore it will hang up.
Having said that your description indicates that something more may be amiss. If the one brake is jammed on the other wheel should spin and the tractor should move on its own or force it in a circle.
I would jack the suspect wheel of the tractor up and check if it will spin. From the description it would indicate that there is a problem with one propellor shaft or the differental pack.

I'm debating whether to buy the 670 or 680 tillers vs. buying plow, disc, & harrows. I have 15 acres, relatively flat, and I plan to plant orchard grass, sunflower, sorghum, clover, buckwheat, etc. At times, I will turn everything over and plant something different. What tines should I use, the L-shaped or the C-shaped? Not that I'm in a hurry, but do you know if using the tiller is incredibly time consuming as compared to plowing, discing, and harrowing? I have a JD 4300 and ran out of fuel the other day due to an inoperative fuel gauge. All I did was refuel and crank it over. It did take quite a few revolutions but it eventually started. Due to the compression, I was concerned that I didn't have the amperage to spin it long enough but it did start. I don't think anything less than an excellent battery would have done it though.

Thanks Tom. I'll try loosening the switch to see if there's any adjustment on it before I try glueing an extension on the switch. Also, you guys didn't hear it from me but if you disconnect the switch at the connector and jump the two wires it will permanently resolve the problem. That's what I've done but I am going to repair the switch when I figure out the best way to proceed. . .

Unfortunately, there isn't a bagger officially available at the moment. I have no idea if there is one in the works. However, I'm 90% sure there is a way to piece one together with Deere parts. There is a blower available for the 62C deck that is used on the X-series. Finding a 3 bag system to put on the 3PH should be easy.

You could also use the Hydraulic Dump Power Pak for the 4000 series (I'm 99% that it would work on the 2210 also) but it uses an external 5hp motor)

An option I haven't thought of before now...you might could adapt a Kubota bagger to the Deere. The only difference should be the connection to the deck. Just food for thought.

Normally the 'cheapest' way to do any job is the barter system. You trade your 'labour' for someone else's 'labour'. It is VERY prevalent around here and has been since pioneer times.

Ask around, I'll bet there are several septic tank contractors in your area with school aged children. Ask them if they want 'free' tutoring in exchange for 'free' labour.

If you're going to do it yourself I have only one peice of advice for you, BE CAREFUL!

Double (or triple) check absolutely everything. The health of your family and neighbours may depend on it. Recently there was an area near here where the careless handling & storage of cow manure was the cause of an E. Coli contamination in the municipal water supply. Seven people died and hundreds more were VERY sick.

It's my understanding that the 3-point on a JD operates in either "up" or "down" mode. No in-between.
