I did not think about the compact tractor part.
Last time we were using a D3 and a pretty big tractor to pull a disc.
It seemed to make the dozer push very easily. The dozer did not have a ripper on it.
I planned on renting another D3 and using my compactor this time.
I have back dirt that gets pretty hard in the summer..

Well if you are anywhere near Dallas come on out, we have a 300 yard range, it is not too big but it is there. Since I got that 4710 the range has been getting better and better, wish I had got it a long time ago instead of trying to rent all the time.

The backside of the blade (either one) is a poor tool for doing any task, the curvature causes it to ride up onto material and not push it along ahead of it.

The theory of the hinged rear blade, as Tom mentioned, is to allow a more aggressive use of the front blade before the rear blade starts to act like a skid shoe and prevents a deeper 'bite'. This allows a more precise adjustment when depositing material also for the same reason, it is unecessary to hinge the front balde however since the sides are so long forward of the blade they contact the ground long before the front blade can affect rear blade performance. The rear blade is only free to swing in one direction, away from the front blade, it rests against stoppers when you put a load against it, I have however seen one which was equipped with a small hydraulic cylinder which adjusted the angle of the rear blade so that a very precise amount of material could be laid down, it was used for building clay tennis courts.

Personally I can't think of a single instance in which I would want to lock the rear blade in position, certainly in all the years of using them I haven't found one yet. I also wouldn't buy a box blade without such a feature either.

I forgot to add in my post above that I also add 200lbs of add on weight to the rear to counterbalance the weight of the 48" blade.

I don't think Deere has a rating for the largest size rear mount mower to use on a 2210.

However, Frontier (made by Woods for Deere) specs the 72" mower I'm looking at for tractor horsepower 20 to 40 hp. It weighs 678 lbs. and has a 40HP gearbox.

The pastures I'll be cutting are pretty thick grass, not sparse.

Reasonable logic, except that you need to consider the time savings using one tractor vs another. For similar money you can get a NH-TC30 or Kubota or Malhindra or Kioti. Some of these have suttle shift for the same money and other items that make operation easier. Malhindra and Kioti for example have down pressure on the 3pt hitch, which is very useful for the PH digger.
I found the 790 very tight entering and exiting, also the brakes are not wet. As a tractor works in a wet or muddy environment the brakes disappear quickly if not in hydraulic fluid.

I have a B7500 with a FEL and only 145hr. I have not had any problems with it. I am looking at getting a bigger tracktor and am going to sell it. I am asking 12,000. I bought this tractor new 9/2001

That sounds like a good outcome. The only risk I can see to trying it is if a shop was prepared to do an in-tractor over-haul but wasn't prepared to do a split. A mechanic may get inside the engine and said 'Oops the engine has to come out' then the tractor's a basket case unless the mechanics is paid to put it back together again. Happened sometimes in the motorcycle trade. Somebody' would try a do-it-yourself and then show up at the shop with a frame and a basket of parts. Most mechanics try to hide until such jobs are dealt.

We haven't had further description of the problem so we probably should just let it rest. I am sort of curious though. Maybe the knock isn't a bearing and the oil blowing was just too much oil, and it won't start now because the valve clearances are too tight after the head gasket job. Well, that'd be unrealistic 'no real problem' explanation. I might drain the oil through a strainer and look for coolant and maybe chunks or rings. Perhaps pull the pan too. I might check the valve clearances and pull the injectors or glow plugs. They could be replaced one at a time and the engine could be rotated to check for a cylinder that has no compression.

It might be good to figure if the engine has replaceable cylinder sleeves and if so whether replacement could be done in tractor. The splitting gadget sounds a lot better than the flock of blocks and jacks I'd have to resort to.

Thanks Harvey! I'll think through your comments about exhaust temps but I doubt I have worries about the valves. I avoid doing heavy draft work on hot days anyway because I don't want to change to summer oil for the few days around here when it's desirable. I'd just as soon fish on those days.

Around here we have road diesel at the service stations (sometimes called clear diesel) and I guess that dealers manage to get the right blend in their tanks. Off road diesel still comes in #1 & #2 and probably is the same as summer/winter or furnace/stove fuel. The dye seems to be either red or blue. To me, kerosene is the over-priced stuff sold in box stores to unsuspecting uses of portables burners. I think it's just low-sulfur stove oil so people with lamps can pay a bunch to not stink up their places. Sulfur does provide injector pump lubrication, but so do the additives I use.

From earlier discussions I recall that typical #1 fuel has a cloud point of -25F and it was colder than that here a lot last winter. Cloud point is where paraffin particles start forming in the fuel and they can eventually clog a filter before it actually gels. I don't know at what temperature below cloud point problems can start, but running close to straight #1 plus additive with anti-gel last winter may have been a good thing. #1 does start easier than #2 but the lower power it gives is noticeable. There's a good chance that the lower btu's in #1 equals higher throttle in operation and that's what produces higher engine temps on hot days.

You can take this for what it is worth but I have a 1979 model 360 that I bought new and if there is one thing I have got to say for it is the fact that it is one of the toughest tractors I have ever owned. The tractor seems to be severly under-rated for its size. I have pulled a 3-14 3pt turning plow with it with no problem even in rocky ground. But I found out that the lift arms couldnt handle the 38 horse power diesel that was driving this little powerplant. I have run tractors rated at 45 horses that would not hang in there with this little tractor. Just this past week my nephew broke the steering arm on it and other than that and the 2 lift arms and one thermostat I havent done anything to it other than change oil and filters. It burns about 3 quarts of fuel per hour and delivers a ton of work for the fuel it uses. for the last 6 or 7 years I have been working around 2000 acres of hay per year not to mention all of the bush-hogging, landscaping, sowing, and other odd jobs it gets stuck with. I think that some of the raw materials that Long used must not have been top quality but for the price difference and the amount of work you get out of them, they are hard to beat.

I would go to the dealer that has given your farmequipment and you the best support over the years. The ag dealers that care about their customers will serve you the best and they all "SHOULD" have a good handle in the compact arena by now.

The snow blade is by Curtiss, you tell them what tractor you have when you buy it an they will send you some adapter plates.

It pins to the loader the same way the bucket does. If you have J.D. quick hitch, there are adapter for that too.

Hope to add a after market quick hitch to make it easier to switch between pallet forks, bucket an snow blade...

I'm currently looking into buying a new not so compact compact tractor. I want at least 40Hp and and 4wd. I also will purchase a front loader and a grader box with the tractor. Any info on the Kubota's GrandL, the Deere's 4010's, Case IH's DX's and the NH Bomer's would help, all 4 dealers are very close buy. I'm looking for the good and bad. The tractor will be doing all sorts of jobs as I'm starting a landscaping business. I've worked on a farm for most of my life but never have delt with these compact tractors. Every dealer says their tractor is the best, and give reasons why the others are bad but since these tractors are quite expensive I want some owners telling what they like and don't like about the brands they've had or have.<br>

New model tc21d with a 60 mower deck. Also what would a front end loader cost for this unit. A rough estimate would be fine. does a front end loader come with all of the hyd hookups needed or would I have to purchase additional parts? Thanks

Prices seem to vary region to region, but I think that it isn't a good price. I paid 12,200 for 2210, 62" and FEL. Do more shopping. I think you can do better.

I just got my 2210 today.

I'm not sure how many acres it will do, but I just did my yard (1ac) in about 20 minutes. The 62C deck mows very well. It sounds kinda like a turbine engine running :)

I haven't gotten my wheels and cutting height set where I want it yet, but it still looked good.
