I have a Long Longtrac 520 (52 HP) and I just came across a 3 blade moleboard. Is the tractor too little to pull this through heavy black Texas clay? I think I can take one of the blades off. I am not sure what blade to remove. The back blade has an angled wheel (behind the blade). What does that wheel do? Should I take off the front blade instead of the back blade. Or should I just try all thee blades?

I purchased mine in Eugene, Oregon, delivery was free and the total price was $21,000 even. John Deere is running a zero down, 6.5% financing for 84 months. Seemed to be the best deal I could get considering the financing, over the New Holland and Case of similar size. Also the other two dealers wanted to charge me for delivery. I live 135 miles from Eugene, so I guess that is understandable.

Obiedoze, the serial number plate on mine is on the back of the blade right above the center pivot mechanism. It is a metal plate riveted in place. I don't think they'll leave an email on the site from a non-member. I just browse this site occasionally and have some fun reading and learning. Are you a member? Hey plots, you made a good choice, i have had mine for 4 months and just spent all weekend working with it. one bit of advice to the wise. if you weld chain hooks on the top of the fel be sure and re-inforce the area. i lifted an elm tree trunk and forgot to roll the fel and just lifted with the chain on the hooks and bent the top of my fel a little.

As you can see in the pictures, the shift arms are on the top cover. I did drive about a 100 yards or so on hardpack with the diff lock engaged. However, I did not make any turns with the diff lock engaged.

I suspected possible axle windup or binding and tried shifting into various combinations. However, I did not try any combinations with and without load as you suggest. Nor did I verify that 4WD was infact disengaging. I am very anxious to try your recommendations on Friday. They make a lot of sense.

I did note that the clutch pedal had 1.5" of free play. The clutch engages very smoothly and feels very solid.

I never thought about a pic on the inside. I just set the cab frame on the platform with the stock thick rubber floor mat between the frame & the plateform. it gives a tight seal.

I word of caution- You might want to check your key from time to time. I broke one off inside the switch once, all most had to get as new swicth. It a BEAR to get out.

it most likely would fit your JD. i placed the slew pivot on the outboard side of the hoe frame which leaves the inboard side of the frame wide open to just about any configuration of mounts you might need. the plans will include an example of the solid mount cage i'm using right now that can easily be adapted for use on other tractors.

The flywheel effect and pushing the tractor was only an issue on older machines as far as I know.(example the old 8n ect.)
The later model non-live PTO tractors have the over running clutch built in the tranny.
I mow with a 1978 JD 850. No live PTO,no external over running clutch,and the mower or brush hog coasts to a stop without pushing the tractor.
But the mowers do stop when the clutch is depressd.

is a LIVE PTO really that important

There were some 1500-2000 Beavers built, I believe the construction run started in some thing like 1947. Nearly 1000 of the 1700 built were actually US army transport and scout planes which were used in Vietnam and Korean Wars. We had 2 in service that had served in Vietnam.
We had one otter also but had to dispose of it as the tip speeds on the props where too high and we had a lot of complains from people living around the inlet where the base was. The old otter was a bit of a water lover as it was a little under powered compare to the beaver or 180 on floats.
There has been a good series on Discovery Wings on the flying boats. They had one show about Kenmore Air in Seattle. Kenmore had started rebuilding a few years back and runs otters and beavers exclusively. They have converted their Otters to turbines. I am sure that they had the same problem on Lake Washington. I doubt that I would know any ot the pilots their after 25 years.
That series also had info on the Martin Mars which are on Sprout lake. If you ever get a chance they are impressive. The last time I was there I got a center line shot of the Mars on the ramp with their Grummland Goose in the fore ground. The Goose looks like a toy in front of the Mars.

Ken, there were significant differences between the 1710 and the 1720 (engine displacement, wheelbase, and operator's platform). In other words, don't get your hopes up. On the plus side, both tractors had a 12x4 transmission available, which means that they could share a common transmission housing. My suggestion is to make some cardboard templates of the bolt pattern on your 1710 transmission housing and take a trip!

My neighbor has a beautiful Tudor-style house that sits on several acres. He keeps about 2 or 3 cut for a lawn (with nice landscaping, etc) and gets the rest cut for hay twice a year. It doesn't detract from his property at all.
Another neighbor mows his fields every couple of weeks with rotary cutter and an older farm tractor. May not be quite lawn quality (he also keeps an acre or two as lawn) but looks good from the road.
Personally, I would jump at the opportunity to keep the TC33 for finish mowing and buy an old Farmall M, etc., to rough cut the pastures.

I did see someone that made a widening kit that mounted between the rums and hub, got 1" wider on each side but it was almost $500!

Here's what I did:
Get some 7/8" washers, usually at a big truck repair shop and are about 1/8" thick. I bought 10 of them for cheap. After you get each of your lower arms on the implement, slide on as many washers as you can, then put your lynch pins in, then tighten down on the spreaders, get them good and tight.

Works awesome for me, got me about .5" clearance for each tire.
